Yes, it slowed typists down as a response too but any organization other than alphabetical could have done the same. In a typewriter, two close keys would tangle together when struck too fast.

I saw the name on the keyboard here qwerty thanks for teaching us a lot of things.
Qwerty keyboard was to prevent bar jams. But not to slow typists down. It was rearranged so commonly used letters were closer together on the keyboard at he same time moving those bars farther away from each other in the mechanism. It actually allows faster typing with fewer jams.
I would still eat my Chinese out of the box. They serve too much. I need the box to store. If I break it, I DT I could figure out how to put it back together
