Magnesium Deficiency in Cannabis

Magnesium Deficiency in Cannabis

Magnesium Deficiency What to Look For in Cannabis…
-Notice the slight yellowing of the older (lower) leaves.
-The veins will remain green the yellowing will occur between the veins (inter-veinal)
-In cannabis there can also be some stippling (brown spots) on leaves that may or may not yellow.
-Mg deficiency tends to be first seen on the lower (older) leaves and can progress up the plant if the problem is not corrected.

Magnesium Deficiency How to Correct…
Epsom Salt (Magnesium sulfate)
Cal-Mag
Dolomitic Lime

How often are you giving the 1 tablespoon per gallon of water? With cannabis?

  4. Optics406 on May 16, 2022 at 4:22 pm

Can I send you a couple pictures of my plant to help figure out a problem I am having? Thanks for the videos

Cal mag is standard guys 🤦‍♂️

  8. Donkeyteen on May 16, 2022 at 4:26 pm

The botanicare cal-mag says 3-5ml per gallon on the label! I have it. 1 ounce would kill my plants from all the extra nitrogen in the product. I use it mainly as a foliar feed.

Great information! Growing under LEDs require more Magnesium then other light types. Learned the hard way haha had some “purple racing stripes” on the stalk and stems. Showed up a little under a Blurple, and more so from a Mars Hydro ts1000. Was testing a random seed when I was beginning indoors. Magnesium helps (uptake) with the movement of the other nutrients required for the plant 🌱

Nope, sorry, this video did not give a real world view of a Mag deficiency in cannabis. At 2:20 the pic which happens to be the focal point of the video is not cannabis.

I like this channel. This guy clearly knows his stuff, but, I have to mention, I seriously doubt that a full oz per gallon of Cal-Mag is needed. That is a LOT of ppm!

I use less than an oz for 5 gal and I’m pretty sure I have never had a Magnesium deficiency.

(Maybe to correct an existing problem you would use that much, but even that seems like too much, imho.)

Another good video without the fluff.

  19. Tye D on May 16, 2022 at 4:44 pm

So glad I accidentally stumbled on this video. My plant has those exact issues but I’ve had issues troubleshooting. Checked the fertilizer I’ve been using and it’s much lower in magnesium than similar fertilizers. Would never have figured that out without your help, thank you so much!

  23. Jannz on May 16, 2022 at 4:46 pm

Thanks for your videos, great clear info. Does mag deficiency show any leaf curl at the margins and tips as well and is it possible to be deficient in more than one nutrient? I have the older leaves yellowing, the spots developing, but also leaf curl at the tops which weren’t mentioned so I will keep searching your content for more on diagnosing correctly.

Epsom salts doesn’t just supply ""some"" sulphur , it actually contains more sulphur than magnesium lololol

  26. Kaleb Marquardt on May 16, 2022 at 4:50 pm

    1oz. Per gallon…this isn’t too much??

  28. IIIDaemon on May 16, 2022 at 4:54 pm

    FYI: BotaniCare (Cal-Mag+) Suggests 3-5ml/gal (1oz = 30ml)

I put a very mild mixture of Epsom salts on my spice plants (basil, mints & rosemary) and the color and healthiness changed for the better quickly.

we burned magnesium as kids in school and was told without no life on earth except single cell organism would exist because of its photosynthesis properties..is this true ?

I herd purple veins was a magnesium defiency?

  38. Jahshi on May 16, 2022 at 5:06 pm

Did your purposefully leave out black strap molasses?
I could understand because it’s kinda tough to dose with. But I’m genuinely curious since I started growing in coco.

  39. beansdork on May 16, 2022 at 5:08 pm

thanks, this is quite helpful about diagnosing Mg deficiency, but it would like to have known how detrimental the effects would be if left untreated. i might have a mild mg defieciency but i am not sure if it is worth risking the potential side effects of adding epsom salts. in the depicted experiment, was there a recorded relative drop in yield from the test subject plant?

  40. dalan wanbdiska on May 16, 2022 at 5:09 pm

  43. Cole Ronald on May 16, 2022 at 5:12 pm

After looking at my bottle of cal-mag plus and seeing 5ml per gallon I ended up going with 30ml per gallon like the video says. I guess we will see what happens. I will keep you posted.

  46. MegaMarclar on May 16, 2022 at 5:13 pm

I have a huge problem with purpling stems, growing in coco using canna coco nutrients. Growing under hps, led, floros doesn’t matter. Happens on multiple strains over the years. I’m thinking the canna coco nutes may not have enough mag..?

  47. Drew Shourd on May 16, 2022 at 5:14 pm

Wait….I just learned some cannabis tips from a video with zero rap music, zero blunt smoking and zero profanity….can this guy really be trusted?
    ….hahahahahaha…great video and THANK YOU.

  48. laid back manour on May 16, 2022 at 5:15 pm

    Thank you for the video.
Being treated as an adult in a grow video is refreshing.

  49. Bruce Holinight on May 16, 2022 at 5:16 pm

Most problems with growing cannabis are during the veg stage , once it’s put to flower the issues usually clear up , that makes it obvious it’s a mag issue because the only thing different is the fertilizer that’s usually cal/mag heavy !

  50. Drew Daubert on May 16, 2022 at 5:18 pm

My leaves on my autoflowers always turn yellow and start dying off. I thought that was normal.
