While filming at Jim Henson’s Creature Shop in New York, Adam Savage came across some unusual tools whose purpose eluded him. Enter shop director Melissa Creighton, who not only reveals what they are, she shows Adam just how they work … and how they heavily influence the look of every Muppet!

Thanks for watching!
NOICE!
@1:16 is that a spider?
Those are arch punches. We use them for the bolt holes when cutting pipe gaskets. It’s even the same brand: Osborne.
Short but sweet video…..😁
Adam is the star pupil at this activity!
Melissa is delightful.
Aw. I was expecting some insight into the blinking mechanisms.
Well you have yourself a one day build right there. A hole punch holder fort the Jim Henson’s Creature Shop!
What a nerd this man is. Love him
3:00 {ding ding} Oh what a treasure.
Wow Adam Thank you come back there again and delight us again
Did I detect Adam getting the urge to build a better storage solution for all those punches lying there in a pile?
This deserves a longer video.
Adam prints as prince of principally pupil pupil people
I feel like I’ve just been robbed I’ve always wanted to know what the white part of the eye was maid of. 😅
Oh I’m in love again, Melissa and Muppets 😍 I could have so much fun 😊
I have to wonder who they have the large punch for. I know Sweetums eyes aren’t that big. Same with Thog who I had heard was the biggest before they made on for the San Diego zoo in 2022…
Adam you should make a up stand rack for those tool with a muppet name for each size and offer it to them. would be a cool project.
This has to be the most disturbing thumbnail in the history of the channel.
“Please uses these punches for pupils only” is only a whimsical label in a place where muppets are made.
Love it. Short video with amazing content. Thanks!
🙂
Now I know who should meet.
Honestly I have always appreciated your work looking as to know your insight on the foundation apple tv series and the directors clames for it to have given inspiration to star wars and. Other big universe’s??? Would like to know what you think
Heartwarming and wonderful
I hope there are More Henson NY Workshop videos coming soon!
2:41 – I have to believe Adam has a half-dozen ideas rolling around his head about how to make a storage cabinet for these. It’d make a great One Day Build video.
I will never get over Adam’s delight and wonder when he is exploring. It brings me a lot of joy to watch him express joy in the exploration.
First thing I thought as a machinist why are those punches just hanging out they need a holder. Adam addresses this. Why are they just loose? That’s history messing up history.
I’m not going to comment, except to say that muppets are not made – especially by the brutal method of hammering punches into the eye – they are naturally developing creatures, who live in a variety of environments – mines, urban neighbourhoods, and, er, variety theaters….
NO!!! Stop It!!! Muppet eyes are not made, muppet eyes start with the muppet baby and grow with them. Don’t destroy my childhood like this!!!
I’m weirded out. These massive tools for punching out…flocked paper. Not some really strong, thick, leathery material…fuzzy paper. & they’re a hassle to sharpen…which…it looks like it would change the dimension of them.
I do crafts…I have different-sized hole punches…& they come out clean. Plus they can be sharpened by punching foil. I also have an adjustable circle cutter. It Also cuts clean. It has a blade…which is massively easier to replace or sharpen.
Just me? I’m thinking…maybe?…they could make a TON of money for PBS (or w/e) by auctioning off the "original" punches & getting some new, easier-to-deal-with gear.
They could even punch out a bunch of eyes 1st & store them…&/or auction those, too, hey…easy money.
I’m missing Something here. :/
I could spend hours listening and watching and learning about the entire process!!! I would sit wide-eyed as every little tool is explained to me!
Adam definitely does not love that they are not in an upright holder!
Calling "Noise" before punching is really thoughtful. Many people on the autism spectrum, including myself, are really sensitive to sudden loud noises and it can take you out of your work for minutes. (not exclusive to autism of course)
I see some people in the comments ask "wouldn’t the shouting startle you as well?", but at least in my experience a raised voice feels a lot ‘softer’.
Also you can pretend that someone is giving you a compliment shouting "noice!"; happy thoughts to cushion the blow 😀
who else would get a tour at NASA and then go see muppets being made!
He didn’t shout “noise” when he Ding-a-Linged at the end
"Noise!!!" Luv it.
NOISE
The mallet is actually called a Maul. Used a lot in leatherworking.
I want to see the whole process of making eyes…
Is there a punch for Kermit’s pupil shape?
When I heard about the flocked paper, I lit up with joy! Cellu-suade, a company that was located in my home town, was once the largest manufacturer of flocking. It’s conceivable that at one point the Muppets couldn’t have existed without my home town!
I have never seen a round punch that big that wasn’t part of a die set in a press! That thing was a monster! We use very similar tools in leather craft in rounds, oblong, and other shapes. The heavy stacked leather tool for striking is called a maul, and it’s designed to prevent mushrooming the back end of punches and other struck tools.
Seeing that drawer reminds me of in high school when I tried making a puppet for myself. I used a styrofoam egg cut in half. Then covered it in white felt for both the eye white. THe pupils where hand cut, and secured with fabric glue. I also used a scrap of faux fur for the eye lash.
melissa is full of fun and joy, I would love to work with her,
I want to know the history of why you had to shout noise before doing that. Jim Henson back in the day being startled by someone and instituted the “noise “ policy 😅
The drawer of eyes should be called Gloucester! 😀😄
The drawer full of eyes is a bit creepy
You can’t fool me, Yog Sothoth, I know it’s you in the thumbnail!
