Linus got some lag there at 8:20

  2. Brad Clapp on July 20, 2023 at 6:02 pm

I was already happy upgrading my Asrock X370 killer sli/ac from a 1700 to 3700X and even happier to upgrade to a 5800x.

Currently running a 1080Ti and now just plan to upgrade that when I’m ready.

  3. JavaMan on July 20, 2023 at 6:04 pm

I have a handfull of 128MB drives around for purposes like that. I had an HP printer I bought in 2016 that did not support drives over 1GB

  4. rijden-nu on July 20, 2023 at 6:05 pm

Freeload Balancer? Shouldn’t that be a Privateering Balancer?

  5. dolebiscuit on July 20, 2023 at 6:06 pm

I always like seeing a product be useable for as long as possible

  6. Teunis Dokter on July 20, 2023 at 6:06 pm

Of course, that is possible. Most incompatibility arises from the need to sell products, not technical challenges.

  7. Andi X on July 20, 2023 at 6:07 pm

it bothers me that because of the way the footage was cut you see 6 % when linus starts speaking and then 1 % when the camera goes on to him timestamp is 7:06.

  8. Tim Clark on July 20, 2023 at 6:09 pm

$80 before tax for a t-shirt? Are you a crackhead behind the scenes, Linus? I didn’t pay that much for my last liquid cooler. I only paid around $50 for a enermax liquid cooling aio and $104 and some change for the Corsair AIO I am receiving today before 10 pm. WTF?

  9. Ryster's Tech on July 20, 2023 at 6:11 pm

I’ve run a 5600 non x in a AsRock A320M motherboard and have had no issues with stability or performance. I can even run 3200mhz ram no problems

  10. Hair follicle on July 20, 2023 at 6:11 pm

If amd comes out with newer cpu with competitive prices to i5 12400 im definitely jumping ship. F u intel.

  11. DarkestAngel on July 20, 2023 at 6:12 pm

Intel has DDR5 and PCIe 5.0 support
AMD is still at DDR4 and PCIe 4.0
In other worlds, AMD is losing and has been for months now, shut up Linus <3

Honestly. The biggest reason why I always recommend AMD to new PC builders, is because of the compatibility. Not only is it financially a great idea, but the amount of E-Waste generated from having to switch your mobo every two generations must be insane.

  14. cole on July 20, 2023 at 6:15 pm

Got an Ali express ad here lmao

  15. Joshua Stedford on July 20, 2023 at 6:15 pm

Reduced e-waste is one of the biggest reasons why I love long-term socket support. I like to reuse all my old hardware (even just to build an attractive toaster for a family member), and examples like this make it possible 👍🏽

  16. Mikko Rantalainen on July 20, 2023 at 6:17 pm

Watching this video about "ancient" motherboard using a system with 6 years older system than this "ancient" motherboard.

  17. DaKrawnik420 on July 20, 2023 at 6:17 pm

Pre-Zen if you had Intel you could sit on that one cpu and be faster than consecutive AMD chips that followed. Zen and Zen+ weren’t gaming kings like Intel 4C/4T CPU’s were. Most people do a platform upgrade every 3 years – minimum, making long lasting sockets next to useless. Intel historically improves their chipsets far more often and for better reasons than AMD, so those are good reasons to build a new system…. if you really need it, but you are the minority. GPU matters more than CPU for games, and AMD doesn’t have the better GPUs. Zen 2 was good, Zen 3 is great, but that’s only 2 chips that were ever really worth buying, unless for productivity apps, which again is the minority for desktop class chips. You wouldn’t pay $500 for Zen or Zen+ when getting beat by Intel quad cores.

Socket 1700 will support RPL. This is not news. AMD when asked wouldn’t/couldn’t give a set number of years their next socket will support. So yea. Stop asking for 3+ year sockets. Intel and AMD would rather keep the cycles short so they can sell the products they are spending R&D on. You know… typical business stuff.

Stop acting like spoiled brats ffs! 🤣
    Shop smarter!

    Me with my R5 1400: 😭

  20. John Smith on July 20, 2023 at 6:21 pm

Jeez, I don’t even have a flash drive smaller than 4GB at home. In theory, 4GB should be fine from what I’ve heard, but you can’t really go wrong being careful

  21. randomclips1511 on July 20, 2023 at 6:23 pm

linus: dont try future-proofing your pc!"
me (the educated hardware-expert watching this video): >is building pc´s ranging between 300€ and 1500€ that are futureproof for a guaranteed minimum of 7 years<

by the way i was bvuilding pc´s since i was 12 (which translates in 13 years of building pc´s right now) and for myself i only ONCE build a pc and since then always stuck to it (only swapping a single part every now and then).

  22. costafilh0 on July 20, 2023 at 6:25 pm

Stop smoking weed Linus! It’s starting to show!

  23. Andy Spark on July 20, 2023 at 6:25 pm

MSI just added support for the ryzen 7 5800x3d on their x370 mobos 🙂

  24. DJ Speed on July 20, 2023 at 6:29 pm

I’ll know you will probably not see this comment. But if you do. With ECC not supported on Alder lake processor. Is it worth it? I was reading I would need a W680 chipset though for it to work. Not sure what the pros and cons of me going this route would do for me for both my video editing and Photoshop to my gaming

  25. Ghostmourn on July 20, 2023 at 6:29 pm

Suddenly my B450 tomahawk seems really cutting edge. I’m gonna have this baby for SO LONG 🤑👽❣🙈🤏

  26. Jason Alcock on July 20, 2023 at 6:29 pm

I’m watching this on Ryzen 1800X and X370. But an ASUS board 🙁 How AMD supports X370 depends on my purchasing 5800X and is likely to affect future updates.

  27. kingcarcas1349 on July 20, 2023 at 6:30 pm

I had a second board ready just in case and yes i needed it, but it’s cool i don’t expect a chipset to last forever. I was the one going up in CPUs a few times

  28. PhunkBustA on July 20, 2023 at 6:31 pm

pcgamermag released this article yesterday "Intel bug report points finger at AMD for a chunk of GPU vulnerabilities"

  29. bitkarek on July 20, 2023 at 6:33 pm

AMD always have done great with a backwards compatibility

  30. KasparOnTube on July 20, 2023 at 6:33 pm

I remember that Asrock had motherboards what had soc A and 754 both on the same board and perhaps 754 and 939 as well on the same board 🙂 happy to see they still carry that same vibe

  31. Hunterfast on July 20, 2023 at 6:34 pm

So i can stay with my ryzen 7 1800x👍

  32. crenn6977 on July 20, 2023 at 6:35 pm

The fun bit comes in when ASRock released a BIOS update for their A320M-HDV R4.0 board to also support 5000 series!

  33. Lyall van der Linde on July 20, 2023 at 6:38 pm

That’s why I’ll never buy anything Intel again, because if their greed.

  34. Nathan Flannery on July 20, 2023 at 6:38 pm

Haha, Linus still shilling for USB-C after all these years. And I STILL only have USB-C to USB-A cables for power delivery on my phone and 2 other devices. Still haven’t found a use for USB-C to USB-C.

  35. Weta on July 20, 2023 at 6:39 pm

    Good job AMD.

  36. Tdd Tars on July 20, 2023 at 6:41 pm

    nice vid bro

  37. max kax on July 20, 2023 at 6:41 pm

Is 16mb of L3 cache bad? I have an i5-11600k and it has only 12mb l3-cache, is it 12mb per core and thus more sufficient than the Ryzen 1500x with 4 cores?

  38. TabalugaDragon on July 20, 2023 at 6:44 pm

I wish AMD kept the same promices about their "unlocked" 5900hx, and didn’t straight up scam buyers instead

  39. logipilot on July 20, 2023 at 6:45 pm

I run an AMD fx8350 from 2012 on my Asrock 770extreme3 from 2007! (Meaning: AM3+ cpu on am3 board with official beta bios)

  40. Lalith P on July 20, 2023 at 6:47 pm

    Nobody
My PC going from R3 2100 to R5 5600: *POWER*

  41. turboimport95 on July 20, 2023 at 6:49 pm

I got a old biostar x370gt5 board when I got my athlon 2 x4 620. I was gonna upgrade until i looked at the board cpu support page… I can throw a 5950x in there if I wanted to.. All i need is a bios update…

  42. Seprex on July 20, 2023 at 6:50 pm

  43. Steel Rat on July 20, 2023 at 6:52 pm

    Where is PERFORMANCE TESTING !!!???
    It’s just a simple instruction

  44. tvw on July 20, 2023 at 6:52 pm

If you’re spending 100s/1000s of dollars please do your research lmao, thats totally on you. Idc what anyone says.

Not an intel shill or AMD, I go where the numbers are.

**BUT in line with the video.

I updated my friends X370 Taichi for his 5800X and it works a charm. He came from a first gen 1600 I think it was.

  45. Tigran Tadevosyan on July 20, 2023 at 6:52 pm

I am not a computer hardware specialist, but is it really THAT hard to provide at least some backward compatibility. Maybe there is just no real reason to do that in the world where there are just two companies that provide PC CPUs. The fact that AMD stepped even a bit towards this direction is giving some hope. For the first time in years, the high-end CPU segment is really competitive thanks to AMD catching up. The fact that Apple with its lineup of its new CPUs has shown what is ARM capable of in PC space and Microsoft’s Qualcomm exclusivity deal for Windows on Arm finishing shows that soon things are going to become even more interesting. I just can’t wait to see what Pat Gelsinger will show us next. Hope that competition will bring even more perks for customers (like a bit better backward compatibility across the board).

  46. unknown on July 20, 2023 at 6:53 pm

Tell Intel I shared that 20GB leak everywhere. Im sick of being betrayed by a company I once trusted.

  47. Dmitry Gorbushin on July 20, 2023 at 6:53 pm

Download some hacky BIOS from some Russian forum? Well, I’m Russian and this sounds very offensive to me :-))) woahaha! Just kidding, I’m Ok with that!

  48. Attempted Unkindness on July 20, 2023 at 6:54 pm

The fact that AMD’s feet didn’t fall off kicking the hell out of Intel pre-pandemic is good enough. I say let them rest up and ice their swollen toes.

  49. HOkayson on July 20, 2023 at 6:58 pm

It’s good that AMD are still looking out for the poors. The rest of us just buy all new stuff every 2 Intel gens.

I’m just joking everybody, chill out!

  50. yes yes on July 20, 2023 at 6:59 pm

Yea intel grate cpu prices, just gotta buy a 300 dollar motherboard tro fucking upgrade
