I need help!
Can’t get rid of root rot. I only get strong White root grow, if i use tap water ALONE with over 450ppm crap. As soon as i use reversed osmosis water 0 ppm with Hydro nutrience and h20, roots getting yellow and rot.
Also just found springtails in my resovoir for the 1st time with the new osmosis water, never had this problem with tap water. It could be from a new plant not sure. But im having a hard time to get rid of them, i just disinfected everything and added some airstones and havn’t seen them last 48 hours.
0 ppm Water
PH 5.5 – 6.5
Temp – 21 celcius
Hydro nutrience 400ppm to 1200 ppm
Im excited to see my airstones can solve this problem, Keeping the springtailes out and supply more air to roots. Any suggestions, do i need to add more stuff into my water like beneficial bacteria or UV light?
Hey Bro! Your Thumbnails isn’t Good, I can Make a thumbnails/Edit videos for you which will give you more views, Lemme know if you’re interested.
why plants renew its routs , who teach them to do that ? thanks God Allah who creat this .
Amazing!!! Great job!!!
J’adore vos vidéos. Explications simples. Il n’y a rien de compliquer avec vous. Continuez
Love 💕
I found using hydrogen peroxide extremely effective with reversing root rot
Great channel! Go visit my page and sub if you like it ❤️
the fuzzy white thing, I thought those are mold in my basil and I washed those away… didn’t know those are young air roots. Am I gonna kill my basil by washed off those fuzzy white air roots? Thanks!
In that particular scene, root rot is brought on by the amount of light at the root zone. It MUST be dark. Also there are signs of algae, which again points to too much light at the root zone.
Hydro guard. That is the #1 way to not get pythrium
Excellent and very helpful, thank you Khang!
I’ve learned so much from you!!! Thank you! I’ve got some trimming to do😍!

Why do the roots rot in the first place?? How can we avoid root rot?
I think you saved my DWC heirloom tomato plant. Thanks. It is already looking better.
Have you ever tried Cattappa leaves for root rot prevention and lower PH? I use these in my fish tanks to lower PH and offer anti fungal properties. Root rot is essentially a fungus. Thanks!
Hi Khang,
Since March I have a single monster sized Brainstrain growing in my 9 pod Aerogarden – It’s like a Bonsai..!! I am getting a bit concerned that the trunk is going to split the pod cover? With your experience, do you think it’s possible? Do you think I’m safe to leave it? Thanks.
You rock dude! I wondered what to do if that happened. Thank you!
Thanks for this. I’ve got chillies and oak Choi sharing a tank and the Bok Choi has to come out as it’s huge . My set up is pathetic because The just mocked it up with stiff cardboard with holes cut out and the cardboard ( unsurprisingly) is collapsing . I can change them over now quite happily .
Had rot on a tomato.
So did 3 tsp of 3% hydrogen peroxide in 1 gallon water. Used that for my plant without nutrients. So far growing healthy white roots as the rotted roots stay dormant as the h2o2 kills the bacteria.
Since plants have a natural immunity they can defend against the hydrogen and use up the oxygen as it breaks down.
The formula lasts about 4-5 days before having to change again.
Great for kratky.
I have somewhat of an odd problem, wanted to see if anyone could help. I have one of those hydroponic growers and it comes with those biodegradable brown pellet things made likely of coconut husk or the like. I also bought those glass wool cubes that are popular for hydroponics as well. Here’s my issue:
The water keeps the tops of the pellets damp. Plants usually germinate and start growing just fine, but having the moist tops of whatever media I’m using invites mold to grow on the tops over time. How do I fix this? I obviously can’t keep the plastic covers on them once the seeds have germinated and grown large enough, so I’m obviously forced to have the moist tops of the pellet be exposed to the outside environment. The glass wool goes longer before the mold appears, but it’s still bad after a while. Keep in mind I’ve even gone as far as dripping like a couple drops of hydrogen peroxide on the exposed substrate, but it doesn’t make it go away, usually just slows how long it takes to appear. Is it possible to add a chemical fungicide to my water reservoir? I’m not even going to care about “harsh chemicals” or “wanting organic products”. If there’s strong shit out there that’s relatively food safe, let me know.
A few additional notes of info if this helps inform your advice:
I’m growing in an apartment indoors
I have even soaked my media in hydrogen peroxide solution before adding seeds
I change the water, scrub the inside and disinfect with weak bleach, rise, dry thoroughly, then take a small amount of running alcohol and give one more wipe and rinse. All this is to say the revervoir is very clean and root fungus isn’t an issue, only the stuff that starts on the top and then infiltrates down.
Again, want to reiterate, I would LOVE a chemical that can be mixed in to the water reservoir and is safe for the plants roots and also, I’m growing culinary herbs so relatively non toxic. I guess also, make sure the fungicide is compatible with a hydroponics setup, I know some are designed to be sprayed. I guess I could use those and just spray the tops and see if that works.
Any info would help thanks.
Thank you for the confirmation, greetings to fellow hobbies
Its amazing how far you got without any basic plant knowledge. You dont even bother to research, lol. Since the plants want to survive, they forgive you your mistreatment.
As a preventative I like to add 2 tsp (10 ml) of 3% H2O2 (fungi stat) per 1 gallon (3.7L) nutrient solution in my Kratky systems at startup. Not only does it help with the root rot but O2 is generated which helps oxygenate the roots when you lack a diffusing stone. When I add nutrient solutions to “top off” the liquid level I also add H2O2. I usually don’t have systems with enough volume to last the entire growth cycle so I do have to periodically carefully replenish nutrient solution. This is how I manage to stave off root rot. Great video!
I get it all the time and I don’t know why. I use hydrogen peroxide but it doesn’t seem to be enough. I had 2 Harvests with Phlox and Stock flowers and they lasted 1 or 2 months and, in just a couple of days, dried up and died. I’m going to try changing the water every time I add nutrients. Maybe that’ll help.
Oh my goodness I just love you. I started growing with Aerogarden, I got for my birthday a couple years ago. Then tried the kratky method. Don’t have much money. I have been following you for 2 years, you have helped me to work with things I have. I have always cut the extra plants from my Aerogarden and thrown them away. I pulled one out and started it with the Rockwell cube, plastic shot cup and a water bottle. It is growing well. I am so excited. Thank you for your teaching videos. You are awesome.🥰🥰🥰♥️
Thank you so much 4 your i info. Love yr voice 😊
Kratky pots will always slime. You have lack of air any you are letting light in, of course its going to rot
I will be doing this today!
Khang what makes the root rot
If over watering is not good for plants, how hydroponic is possible
I just trimmed my roots last night after watching this. There was just a little that seemed oversaturated with water but I can see more new white root growth coming from the roots that were there when I got the plants. I added a little nutrients and am waiting to see if that helps too. A few have dry leaf edges. It does not seem the way they are positioned that the light is too much as it is shining more indirectly on them since I don’t have a real grow tent or way to hang the light from above so light is coming from the side on the floor propped against a wall.
Awwwww man, too late. I just got rid of my Kratky cucumber plant yesterday. Oh well, R.I.P. my little cuke. Now I know how to save them. Thank you.
I rinse them in a solution of (food grade) hydrogen peroxide and it seems to almost always work if you catch it early enough. When I first tried it I figured it might kill the plant or at least weaken it by killing beneficial microbes on the roots, but often they seem unfazed. I also do kratky peppers in smallish jars– I’ve noticed that shearing off a few centimeters of the the roots with a super sharp knife when they get close to the bottom of the container seems to keep them vigorous and fruitful while maintaining a small size. Love the channel Khang!
GUYS!!! I’m using "Maxigrow" for my 12 pot 4L iDOO system with a pump. I’m getting a slight orange/brown tint on my cilantro plants even after using just a little bit or fertilizer (half a teaspoon)
Hey! Looks amazing! How many lumens light do you use and also how far is the light source from plants?
Your likely always going to get root rot due to the amount of light reaching those roots
I think i need to change my sponge in the aerogarden pump. What do you suggest to replace it with?
It doesnt really work out when you live in tropical island X-P
I have a question I just started this with IDOO hyroponics system small one, and it tells me to get rid of the other seedlings once 1 starts sprouting but once it sprouts its impossible for me to see and how do i get rid of the other ones, i did it when it grew a few inches but is that too late ?
How to save your plants – use compost and worm castings in your own homemade organic soil
i put my water plant in a glass jar and i idk if dis has root rot and i cant find info about hydroponics that u only put in a glass jar if anyone knows please notify
I soaked mine in 5-10% H2O2 several times a day for 3-5 days to prevent reoccurrence
I have a Mattapeno (variegated jalapeno) plant that is exhibiting early symptoms of root rot. I am trying this method to save it. I will add another comment in a few days to a week to let you know how it worked.
My hydroponic avocado tree has some wilted leaves and has been suffering from really bad root rot, I’ll have to try this!!
Hydroguard! 🙂
You mentioned that a pump will help with root growth. However, the roots of my plant breaks down and rotted. I had to trim off most of the root and changed to kratky method. What may be the problem?
Good info.. thank you
No. Don’t use tap water. Or dilute it. I used bad tap water once and hours later brown gunk built up and it doesn’t matter of circulation or root stimulants. Use reverse osmosis.
I’ve always had luck doing exactly this for root rot. I’ve never lost a mature plant yet and I’ve had to be pretty aggressive some times. Younger tender plants, not so much. Unfortunately the warmer your nutrient water the less oxygen it can hold, making you much more susceptible to root rot. I’ve gone back to soil in my grow tent as my light makes the environment too warm (80f) for healthy root development. I don’t have an air conditioner for me, so I am not buying one for my indoor garden. lol
