Gina is one of the worst characters in television ever. She is not "confident", she is textbook narcissistic and borderline abusive. Persons like her are just not capable of bonding with other people and don’t have friends. The show is sooo much better in the periods she is not in it.
She’s AWESOME. But I did feel like her appearance in the episodes were pretty low and she never really made an affect to the show’s timeline. But I still loved her anyways.
I heard they wanted to downsized the cast after they changed to NBC.. she’s the only non cop character, that’s why

I cannot stress enough how much more confident Gina’s character made me feel about myself as a woman!!!!
I didn’t really like her character at the start but she started really growing on me when we found out she actually cared about the whole precinct deeply by saving their butts all the time. It came to the point where when I got to her leaving episode I had to stop my somewhat consistent binge of B99. I’m back on it now, but had to skip the episode. I didn’t even notice how much her character meant to me in the whole show. I believe she was just as important as any other character in the precinct.
Even though the show’s still funny without her, she was a very good character.
