The fastest SSD for gaming, and one big problem..

Intel Optane promises theoretical latencies up to 1,000x lower than NAND. Could it possibly live up to such a lofty claim?

And he plays Starcitizen, more funnier, it’s 2023 and were still waiting for the game to release. 🙂

I really wanna find some SSD that is like this thing, in terms of write endurance…. But also for a good price.
Like…. I want a device where the storage lasts long… like really long, but I can still read and write things from it for a long time, like it could be 10 years later, and the drive would still be able to write and read, or maybe… even if the drive can’t write anymore, I should be able to read data from it, so I can replace it.

Probably to late to ask, but I have an omen 15-dh0005la which I basically use for college (computer science) and gaming, here’s the deal, it has a 512gb ssd and 32gb optane which is using the only m.2 port of it and I’m having some storage issues, is it better to get rid of the optane and put another ssd? What do you think? 🙁

We need fresh video on the fresh Intel Optane 2020 😀

Oh my god old LTT videos are so good

  9. Maggie Jetson on August 29, 2023 at 7:11 pm

Definitely diminished return. SSD’s gain are mainly from eliminating mechanical latency, then after that, with NVMe, the biggest bottleneck is actually the OS interrupt and drivers. This is why enterprise application are accessing storage and network in user plane (not going to the OS), and replaced interrupt driven work with busy polling and infinite loop. There were stats who show about 1/2 of the performance loss is due to OS and driver / interrupt.

The amount of performance between Optane and Samsung’s best SSD is only about 2x, not worth the way higher price.

bought WD Black AN1500 NVMe PCIe 3.0 Add-in-Card 4TB at a strange 518 AUD price on AMAZON after watching this. Lmao, am I lucky?

  12. Frodo Baggins on August 29, 2023 at 7:16 pm

Houdini is a nice test, but then another question arises – after rendering 1 minute long simulation, is the 960 / 970 still usable, or reached its end of life? This is where Optane shines. These scratch drive scenarios. Right now pairing it with BFGPU is the fastest home computational rig money can buy.

I’ll take any of the extra Star Citizen pro-mo’s you all find.

  15. Thewaterspirit57 on August 29, 2023 at 7:25 pm

I think this drive is more for people who want a longer lasting SSD based drive 😛
Cuz tbh…. I personally would like that, than a normal SSD, that fails after less than a quarter the time of an HDD

Like so much the honesty in this video, a true review. Kudos, I believe what is said in this video.

  17. DooM_ Obsession on August 29, 2023 at 7:28 pm

it would be cool if u see this and cooler if u saw this but im thinking of a smart storage drive with a on board Cpu that puts files with lesser needs on to a small 1000 gigabyte drive and the higher faster resource eaters on Powerful NAND chips for larger stronger programs that is 2000gb

  18. mochimiyu on August 29, 2023 at 7:29 pm

Ps5 and Xbox series x wait this was 2 years ago imma head out

  19. John Vilseck on August 29, 2023 at 7:30 pm

Picking this up when it came out is easy to swallow than what they cost now in 2021; almost 3x as much for the 480 gb. Runs like a champ.

  20. nairmaq on August 29, 2023 at 7:30 pm

Dont do the ram to the trash, just give it to me😁

  21. lindalewendling on August 29, 2023 at 7:33 pm

I think they meant increased performance for gpu’s that can read directly from them

  25. hi9580 on August 29, 2023 at 7:36 pm

It maybe good for future proofing since the new 2021 consoles have super fast ssds so developers may optimism game load times to be much faster in future.

  26. Ace on August 29, 2023 at 7:37 pm

I downloaded 5 tb of nvme pcie 4 ssd

  27. Farzher on August 29, 2023 at 7:38 pm

why isn’t it noticeably faster? the random read/writes are way faster than a nvme ssd. like 3x faster

  28. Louisiana Native on August 29, 2023 at 7:39 pm

My 905P U.2 is still going strong in 2022. I am surprised this tech didn’t go more main stream at over 7 PB of endurance for a 260 GB Drive.

  29. Jawad Ahmed on August 29, 2023 at 7:40 pm

I wanna turn RAM into a non-volatile storage drive. JUST LOOK AT THOSE WHOPPING SPEEDS…! 04:04

  30. Amerikan Stafford on August 29, 2023 at 7:40 pm

This is plain garbage and money thrown away.I threw this garbage in the trash and installed a Kingston ssd.Since then there are no more problems and the games work as they should.

“What does this kind of storage speed look like?”

Bruh, I think Imma turn on my computer for some- OH! It already booted, logged in, and opened CS:GO… I didn’t even press the power button yet.

  37. philipp594 on August 29, 2023 at 7:45 pm

How could they pick 1gb in crystal mark? The real difference of this product is, that it does not need a dram cache.

  42. Just Derek on August 29, 2023 at 7:50 pm

I wish there was also a comparison of striped Samsung 960’s or something close. That would probably be a cheap performance option.

  43. Charming Peasant on August 29, 2023 at 7:50 pm

How does it compare in terms of asset streaming in games compared to a average SATA SSD ?
Star Citizen runs like a pain on HDD for example.

  44. Crisis on August 29, 2023 at 7:50 pm

Wonder how rtx io will work with this

  45. feld3d on August 29, 2023 at 7:51 pm

You need to use more houdini in your benchmarks

  46. beansnrice321 on August 29, 2023 at 7:52 pm

I just picked up a small 100 gb optane stick and simply putting my system’s page file, appdata/roaming folder adn firefox cache on ti all showed some incredible changes. Especially firefox. I’m going to probably clean things up and put all of windows on and and I’d be surprised if I didnt’ see everything speed up as a result. I’m quite impressed so far and I’mve been on nvme ssds for some time.

  49. Qardo on August 29, 2023 at 7:53 pm

I am wondering. After 4+ years. Is this SSD still as fast as they claimed? Kind of talked about it and the product kind of disappeared. No, one else was talking about it. Normal, boring SSDs were still doing just a good enough job.
