INTRODUCTION TO DEFOLIATION CANNABIS PLANTS!
INTRODUCTION TO DEFOLIATION CANNABIS PLANTS!
The process of defoliation for cannabis plants is said to increase yield as well as help with ripening the lower bud sites. This video is an introduction to the process. Do you defoliate? Let me know your defoliation technique in the comments section below!

Wot do u do with the defoliated fan leaves
My question is, Is the plant able to pull nutrients from those leaves you cut off for budding. My worry is if so it would be like cutting off a backup of nutrients, unless this isn”t the case.
Your skirt method is on point for irrational exuberance.
5 years later and still fantastic and pertinent information. Thanks.
I’m new to this and I hear a lot of people mention "foxtailing". Can someone please explain what that is?
I appreciate it man thanks
I have a photoperiod 2 week old feminized indoor marijuana plant in my spider farmer tent would you recommend me do this with my photoperiod plant? Or is there anything else i should do or be made aware of. Like im a first timer im not transplanting so should i do this in the video defoliation? Also flushing? Topping? and Low stress training test or whatever its called should i do all four of these with my photoperiod plant but at a different time or way? Please msg me back i need help before i start the veg stage in my spider farmer grow tent small 2x2x5 grow tent. Also im not transplanting i didn’t germinate either i just put in a gsc x jack herrer feminized photoperiod seed took about four days to sprout and then a few more days will be veg stage will start. I need to know if i should do all this and will these videos work no matter if im using a photoperiod or a autoflower?
Think they’re still giving away the snips? 😂
It’s definitely a must for outdoor if you are fighting powdery mildew.
Are these autos
For heat stress not to much you can do. I’ve found you can dim or turn lights of for 20 to 30 mins to reduce the stress. Your techniques are very knowledge based and precise love your videos. Awesome knowledge hard to come by.
Your plants are so small! Mine is 4-5 times bigger, outdoors. There are flowers everywhere so I focused on shade leaves and smaller undeveloped branches on the inner core. Fingers crossed the weather gives me another 30 days of flowering.
Hey man when do you recommend starting defoliating
Personally I don’t like to defoliate before week for a flower and I like to do it slowly write to the day of harvest
Trimmers are badass
Algorithm
Dude you remove anything covering a Main shoots and restricting airflow. I have big buds starting already at week 3
I strip my girls about 3-4 weeks into flower or when the stretch is finished. Everything goes except bud sights. Topping gets done 4 weeks into veg.
Nose hair scissors ✂️
great video my dude!
Whats up with all those small branches at the bottom of the plant. I thought u knew how to lolipop.
i take only the leaf what block the light for the smaller branches so them can grow
Best defoliation video I’ve seen on YouTube!!!!!!!!!

Strip that bitch clean week 1.. strip it week 3 and watch them buds get huuuuuuuge.. plain and simple
I defoliate my plants with my nails pinching against my finger
Good idea leaving some lower fan leaves to act as a buffer against nutrient deficiencies. !
I just got a job defoliating for a company and this is extremely helpful thank you
do you pull off the big sun leaves…………. Edited- my biggest issue is asking a question before I finnish watching. Appreciate your videos a lot. I rely on your knowlege and add mine to it, thanks…..
I’ve always defoliated. Works well and I’ve never had any problems. I usually don’t take more than 20 leaves from one plant every few days or so. I defoliate just like you and it seems to be the best way
Our cultivation rooms always do a de-fan twice in the plants life cycle, once before budding, and once after flowering is about halfway through. We also remove the smaller buds at the beginning of flowering to help drive the nutrients to the top “big” buds, resulting in massive gains and larger buds for jarring after harvest.
Great informative video on the process.
I use my fingers, i support the branch with yin hand and take the leaf im popping of by the leaf stalk right up against the stem and pull down sharply and off they pop.
Good common sense farming technique, thanks.
I defoliate very seldomly and with tactical training with light penetration.
I usually top my clones about 3-4 times and I use a mixture of LST and I super crop once (maybe twice.) At most to create a huge knot in the main cola for durability purposes and to create a more bushy plant as the other node sites grow bigger.
Sometimes the LST won’t get light to all of the nodes because the big fan leafs, that’s when I remove no more than 3 big fan leafs preferably a week, and usually only ones that are blocking sunlight or my have a issue with the leafs (nitrogen or calcium deficiency for example.)
This allows me to get more nodes exposed to light exposure, but ensures #1 I’m not overdoing it and #2 my plant won’t get stressed out and less prone to infection.
Soooo is it too late for that giveaway? 😅
Great video! Very smart on keeping the bottom leaves to catch deficiencies, I will keep that in mind once my plants reach this stage
👍
Whether it’s beneficial depends on the strain
Hope you don’t mind but I’m copying your instructions and it’s working, thank you 🙏
Feel lik I hav to watch these videos every year like to brush up
Good morning Chris how you doing today
Had to revisit this one
Great info. I never heard of the skirt method, but that makes sense. Thank you so very much! I will try this!
Is defoliation as beneficial on outdoor plants, where you get the rising/setting sun rather than a stationary light source?
How long do you Veg for?
quality
Did the blue light from the humidifier affect the grow? Thanks
I did a heavy defoliation after week 2 flower , week 3 I’m taking off all big fan leaves lol
Well done! good description!
That seems so aggressive, I’m kinda scared to even go that hard
