A lack of access to ADHD treatment is forcing more people to self-medicate, often with cannabis, a charity has said.

The condition, which affects behaviour, concentration and attention-span, has been diagnosed in more than two-and-a-half million people in the UK.

But only about eight per cent are receiving a prescription for treatment.

Sabah Choudhry reports.

Again the myth that cannabis is some sort of wonder drug with no serious side effects. Weak journalism.

  2. A Smith on October 6, 2023 at 10:18 pm

medicaring is best left tothe experts not the drug dealers,, but whatever

  3. Not Me on October 6, 2023 at 10:19 pm

To know why its not legal in the UK just research DW pharmaceuticals in Surrey and see who has the monopoly on the UK market, the usual suspects!

  9. GodFingah on October 6, 2023 at 10:31 pm

It should be legal but it can’t be because now a third of the drug industry is made of life threatening drugs

  10. British Guy on October 6, 2023 at 10:32 pm

ADHD is over-diagnosed. Mostly due to characterising natural male behaviour as problematic.

Your not deprived by the NHS but the government who keep taking resources away and inflow of money in turn we and the nhs suffer. Don’t forget few years back they wanted to sell the nhs to America investors who wanted privatise it

  14. Stacey Beckford on October 6, 2023 at 10:37 pm

About time they legalised this nonsense. Making it illegal has not stopped people from smoking it and it is everywhere! Anyone can get it. 😂

  15. D M Kruger on October 6, 2023 at 10:40 pm

    It’s absurd that it’s illegal.

  16. Luk on October 6, 2023 at 10:40 pm

Few people who aren’t directly affected, actually understand ADHD. It is horrible, but easily treatable.

I waited 33 years and big struggle to eventually get diagnosed. But so much damage was done to my life before this despite first going doctor aged 6 getting diagnosed 25, then NHS lost medical records and took them untill 39 years old..life screwed in so many ways I’m trying help and fear I will die in near future and I’m 46 now……NHS failed me my entire life nearly and the Tory and Blair governments is all I’ve had my entire life it’s buying depressing!!! Why me FFS cursed since birth !!!

  29. XxA_OxX on October 6, 2023 at 10:51 pm

Marijuana has health benefits for alot mental, and physical conditions, and health experts will not admit this of fear of losing their jobs, and funding to something that works for people 😁❤️

  30. John Rothwell on October 6, 2023 at 10:55 pm

The oldest medicine known to mankind, and it’s miraculous healing properties are well known amongst the medical profession, before prohibition and demonization in 1930s America 82% of the dispensed prescribed medications were cannabis based !!!! So why isn’t it more freely available for several conditions that respond remarkably to cannabis ?
Corruption, Big Pharma and greedy politicians, it’s that easy… follow the money 🤬

  31. Lol on October 6, 2023 at 10:57 pm

    Legalise it

  32. Adam Martinez on October 6, 2023 at 10:57 pm

  33. The Oracle Cow on October 6, 2023 at 10:57 pm

Its only illegal because they havent made a tax for it and big pharma wouldnt make money on other drugs

  34. Anonymous One on October 6, 2023 at 10:59 pm

  35. Paul Mahon on October 6, 2023 at 11:00 pm

I have recent been diagnosed ADHD and have been self medicating with cannabis because of PTSD for sometime I have asked my doctor to help 🦆🦆but they probably called their relatives👮 so if it’s good for one it’s good for all suffering ADHD all for 1 one for all👽🛸

  36. P O on October 6, 2023 at 11:01 pm

I’ve been with Mamedica for 5 months now. Having access to cannabis has been life changing for me with chronic pain caused by a degenerative back problem. The tablets the GP had me on were awful in terms of impact on quality of life. The only issue is the cost of doing it privately vs. an NHS prescription.

  37. John Seaford on October 6, 2023 at 11:01 pm

stuff the nhs and just go private.

  38. Shannon Fergusson on October 6, 2023 at 11:02 pm

It’s the only thing that helps my son as well. Pills made him like a zombie but with cannabis he can function really well.

  39. GIBBO4182 on October 6, 2023 at 11:03 pm

At this point, we may as well legalise it and make some money off the taxes

  40. Tasty Pymp on October 6, 2023 at 11:04 pm

Cannabis is on every council estate in britain its as easy as buying cigs from the shop they need to get in the real world and legalise it and stop wasting tax payers money trying to stop it

  45. Mine & Mineral Addicts on October 6, 2023 at 11:08 pm

I’m 25 have ADHD and low end spectrum of Autism… I’d definitely say my ADHD was worse between the ages of 4 -12 then again I’ve been on medication for most of my life life now

  47. Sky Cloud on October 6, 2023 at 11:11 pm

So we are now calling substance abuse self-medicating huh? If I happen to punch somebody in the face in future, I’ll simply tell them I didn’t assault him, I’m just "self medicating".

i’m pretty sure I have ADHD/ADD/aspergers something like that and I have known to smoke in the past. I’m an adult though so getting an assessment is next to impossible. these psychological conditions were not recognised when I was born in 87 or at least not mainstream therefore not looked into.
