Mitch, I think, I am doing something wrong, for 100 liter mix I have mixed/dissolved 30 grams of each nutrients into a few litrs of hot water then pored that into the 100litre tank, now my test result is way off the scales, I have to dilute with twice to 3 times that with water, can you help????.thanks mate, you have my number I think

The timing of this video couldn’t be more perfect for me. I’m currently working on gertting into hydroponics for the first time ever. ^.^ Thank you!

Hi Hoocho I’m just wondering when running NFTs does it matter the length of your pipe 6 m 12 m or more do you need a higher flow for nutrient to feed such a long way

In the UK the Kristalon Special is called Kristalon Green 18-18-18

  5. Terrnaz on October 11, 2023 at 11:12 pm

Hi! What do you think about YaraTera KRISTALON INDIGO? Will it working for hydroponics and what would it be most suitable for?

The NPK is 9-5-25 is around.

  6. G vdW on October 11, 2023 at 11:17 pm

YaraTera KRISTALON Orange, NPK-oplosmeststof 6+12+36+3 MgO+Micro – This looks a lot more simular to MasterBlend 4-18-38 than what the Kristalon Special 18-18-18. Wouldn’t Orange be choice? Just wondering? (And thanks for all your insane detailed info! IThanks a million times!)

  7. Tim Page on October 11, 2023 at 11:19 pm

    Masterblend is the truth.

  8. Denis db on October 11, 2023 at 11:20 pm

Hello, a question about PH. Is PH up or down as what can be used for hydroponics the same as what is used in pools?
Question 2. In my country one can grow cannabis up to 5 plants a person. I would like to grow the for medical use. So CBD plants. is a general mix as you name it ok for that in like a Kratky system?

  9. Lyndon Tolentino on October 11, 2023 at 11:23 pm

Where can we source the yarratera in Melbourne?

  10. r57w9w88 on October 11, 2023 at 11:25 pm

yara mix is definitely wrong. i just tried following that recipe and you get a 8 mS/cm solution. off by almost a factor of 6

Thanks so much for putting this overview together and for incuding us on the supplier list 😊

u have a lot of vids on lights, but if you had to recommend a few or a handful u use or like to keep using, what would they be and a price point if possible

  13. Jeremiah Bullfrog on October 11, 2023 at 11:29 pm

I don’t want to maintain a stock of several commercial fertilizers for various crops. How about a general purpose nutrient and what to add for crops other than lettuce, for example. Also still looking forward to your lesson about mixing nutrients from scratch!

  14. Rick Dangerous on October 11, 2023 at 11:29 pm

Hi Hoocho. Something’s weird with that Yara Kristalon formula you were given. It has many times the potassium and nitrogen of the other formulas.

    Campbells formulation (fruiting) seems to give 237 mg/l of N, 39, mg/l of P, 322 mg/l of K and 193mg/l of Ca
    The masterblend formula seems to give 117 mg/l of N, 47 mg/l of P, 189 mg/l of K, and 117mg/l of Ca
The Yara mixture (if the 18-18-18 npk oxide percentages on the bag are accurate) seems to give 609mg/l of N, 78mg/l P, 917mg/l K and 190 mg/l Ca

The complete guide to growing plants hydroponically has a recommended nutrient concentration for tomatoes (one of the more nutrient-demanding crops) of 200 mg/l N, 50 mg/l P 360mg/l K 185 mg/L Ca.

So Campbells fruiting formula seems very close to what you’d want for a tomato plant, and masterblend seems conservative but reasonable (perhaps aimed at plants in an earlier stage of development or less demanding than tomato plants, like the campbell’s greens formula). The quoted Yara mixture seems excessive by close to a factor of 3 for N and K.

  15. Mohammed on October 11, 2023 at 11:29 pm

Hello. I am in Lebanon and no one seems to have heard of Masterblend. I am able to get Calcium Nitrate and Magnesium Sulfate. I want to plant Tomatoes and Cucumbers as well as leafy greens. I am able to find NPK 20-20-20. Can I use 20-20-20 for hydroponics?
Thanks in Advance and any help is appreciated

  16. Alcathous on October 11, 2023 at 11:31 pm

Kristalon Special is the foilar feed formula, high in urea. Urea in substrate and hydroponics is very tricky, as it gets broken down and creates pH swings. May work, but not recommended. Get Brown or Orange instead for mixing with CalcInit. Then if you need to blend in a third form to set the NPK exactly right, use Blue, Green, Yellow or Violet. Don’t forget Epson salts or Kistra Mag for more Magnesium, especially if you use soft, rain, or RO water.

  17. Anthony cross on October 11, 2023 at 11:31 pm

why does having dissolved minerals in the water cause problems?

  18. senecjusz on October 11, 2023 at 11:32 pm

OK, so I have just purchased Yara Kristalon Special, Krista K Plus Magnesium Sulphate and Calcium Nitrate. How to prepare A & B mix. Should I keep Calcium Nitrate as B and all other fertilizers as Mix of A solution ?

  19. Zim Zimmerman on October 11, 2023 at 11:33 pm

at your local brew shop you can get one of those mixers that attaches to a drill, might save you some effort mixing

  20. Myellowsnow99 on October 11, 2023 at 11:34 pm

Thanks Hoocho, you do great vids. I like that you went and found something sourcable aroudn the world. It’s been about 3 months – anything you can report yet on the switch?

  22. frank reynolds on October 11, 2023 at 11:37 pm

Hey mate, Just wondering if you got a source in Australia for Haifa salts sold per bag and not by the pallet? I am after a polyphosphate based product of theirs to add to my fertigation.

  23. Dave Brown on October 11, 2023 at 11:38 pm

Thank You so much Hoocho for going the extra the extra mile for your subs. This is a HUGE time saver for us. I watch the sub-Reddit as well. Dry episode? Hardly, I’ll bet the phones are already ringing up and down the supply lines. Lastly, a comment: I’m really impressed how you manage to keep a rotation of different crops that viewers can learn about and decide if they’re gonna give it a go. Plus, (and I think this is your “secret sauce”) you’ve always managed to keep doing videos that include most all of the different methods of hydroponics that your subs can watch and decide to try, for example, lettuce using the Kratky method, or tomatoes in bato buckets. Keep up the fantastic job!

  24. tim_fully on October 11, 2023 at 11:39 pm

Growing can definitely be pretty nuisanced. I’ve just been getting all me gear from Grow Kings in Aus. Shipping is quick.

  25. Hayruss Hayruss on October 11, 2023 at 11:40 pm

Do you ever need to add any water soluble silica? As I don’t see it in any of the Yates range of ferts.

  26. Pierre X on October 11, 2023 at 11:41 pm

in Romania, i ordered Kristalon, Krista K+, Calcinit, Krista Mgs from depozitul de seminte, in 1kg bags, for about 20 USD. 5kg in total. Couldn’t find a smaller size. If anyone wants smaller quantities, reach out to me, i can mail you A & B powders.

I’m using Yara Ferticare Hydro + YaraTera Calcinit + YaraTera KRISTA MgS for my chillis here in Finland…

  28. Denis db on October 11, 2023 at 11:43 pm

Did I understood well if I goes for Yaracalcinit and Yara Kristalon special I do not need te Yara cristal magnesium?

  29. Slaughterhouse Bikes on October 11, 2023 at 11:43 pm

The instructions that you listed for the masterblend 3 part on their website seems like it is for soil applications, I’m trying to figure out a concentration to make a 3 part stock solution but I don’t have a tds meter at the moment.

  30. Rhys Rat on October 11, 2023 at 11:43 pm

I saw a YouTube short that made hydroponic solution with seaweed epsom salt and worm castings. Worm casting is easy for me to source but living in australia there’s lots of beaches and seaweed, wanted to try it but needed to replace the worm castings and wasn’t measurements etc but that would be really cheap if you dried your own seaweed just really epsom salt and worm castings or an alternative if there is one for the nitrogen I think not super sure.

Also ps great videos have helped alot, you remind me abit of seth sentry the rapper hahaha

  31. Hybrid79 on October 11, 2023 at 11:44 pm

why do you need to add 1g/L Krista K Plus in the yara mix

  32. Raziel on October 11, 2023 at 11:45 pm

Hey, trying to find Yara Tera Kristalon Special in Mexico but they only offer 3 different ones… Any idea which is best? Yara Mila Start, Yara Mila Complex and Yara Liva Nitrabor.

    Hope you’re doing alright man!
Thanks for helping us start eating better!

  33. Reb el on October 11, 2023 at 11:47 pm

Hey Mr. Hoocho, I got a new challenge. What are we buying if we’re from Europe, but the government is too paranoid to give you access to Yara products, because of the possible use for manufacturing things that go boom? Also looking for adoptive parents in the sane parts of the world, marriage would also be an option lol

  34. Rachel Gee on October 11, 2023 at 11:47 pm

Hi I’m just starting out. Do you add magnesium to the Campbell’s diamond special t as well? I noticed it has a lot lower magnesium than the masterblend. If so at what rate? TIA

    * I’m new to Hydroponics and would like to know if I purchase the yarn Tera brown or orange, do I also purchase calcinet ? Somebody said 50/50, is this correct? Do I need anything else🤓
I have the nft for leafy greens and strawberries. Flood and drain buckets for tomatoes, cucumbers, beans etc. Kratky rafts for cabbages, cauliflower/ broccoli.
    Any help appreciated ty

Hey mate I’ve got a question re these chemicals. At the moment I am using liquid but want to start using powder. Can I use the a and b for all plants. I use a different part b for my tomatoes and my leafy greens . Thanks in advance

  39. Amanda Catron on October 11, 2023 at 11:54 pm

Is it possible to successfully use fishtank water for a hydroponic system?

  40. Mario Reissmann on October 11, 2023 at 11:55 pm

I just built my first NFT system and wanna try and grow one head of lettuce a day. Got an all purpose 20-20-20 + micronutrient solid fertilizer, but now I’m wondering how much to use. Should I just go with the recommendation on the package that says 8-9g per 5l of water? And then try and maintain a stable water level while measuring EC and refill nutrients until I reach the initial EC level?

  41. natasha barker osborne on October 11, 2023 at 11:56 pm
