Turn a Quarter into Copper!

Turn a Quarter into Copper!

Through the scientific magic of chemical and exothermic reactions, we are going to turn a USD Quarter into copper. By superheating the coin until red hot, and then dowsing it into a methanol bath we can achieve a pretty amazing reaction. Watch and find out.

We do not recommend attempting this on your own without appropriate supervision and assistance, we used flame retardant gloves, goggles and had a fire extinguisher on hand. .

  10. @bobsmith9177 on January 29, 2024 at 4:49 am

It’s not copper its brass. The heat causes the copper on the inside to slightly vaporise and form a brass alloy with the nickel coating.

turn it into copper, melt, sell for profit

  12. @Mobin92 on January 29, 2024 at 4:49 am

Why does it have to be methanol? Wouldn’t e.g. water also provide that vapor layer?
