Alice O’Leary Randall is known as the 1st Lady of Medical Cannabis. She has dedicated more than forty years to the medical cannabis movement & is in charge of Project 50 working to preserve the history of medical cannabis. Alice O’Leary Randall, alongside her late husband Robert C. Randall, played a pioneering role in the medical cannabis movement, commencing in 1976. Robert became the first person in the United States to legally receive medical cannabis. For more than two decades, Alice and Robert wholeheartedly dedicated themselves to challenging the prohibitions surrounding cannabis. In the wake of Robert’s untimely passing in 2001, Alice transitioned into the field of hospice nursing, ultimately becoming a grief counselor.
After retiring from her nursing career in 2012, Alice fully immersed herself in the field of medical cannabis. She actively engages in writing and speaking on this subject, drawing from her extensive five-year collaboration with Denver’s Mary’s Medicinals. In 2015, she developed the highly informative Cannabis Primer series, followed by the groundbreaking Mary’s Prime Time in 2017. Alice has also contributed her expertise as a board member of the American Cannabis Nurses Association and as an advisor for United in Compassion, a prominent Australian medical cannabis organization.
Alice is an accomplished author, renowned for her notable works such as “Medical Marijuana in America: Memoir of a Pioneer” (2014) and “Pain-Free with CBD” (2019). In her latest publication, an e-pub titled “Marijuana Rx, The Early Days (1976-1996): The Story of the American Medical Marijuana Movement,” Alice offers invaluable insights into the origins of this influential movement.
