Cannabis & Hemp Control Bill heads to Cabinet, Thaksin's parole – Feb 7
Cannabis & Hemp Control Bill heads to Cabinet, Thaksin's parole – Feb 7
Thailand news – A Cannabis & Hemp Control Bill heads to the Thai cabinet next Tuesday in a major back-peddle from the ‘decriminalisation’ announcement by the previous public health minister. Mass tourism is causing problems for tour operators and tourists at Phi Leh Lagoon and Maya Bay, Thaksin will due for a compassionate parole in 2 weeks, and the bombing of a school in Myanmar is just another in the long list of indiscriminate violence against their own citizens.
Tim Newton Today is a daily take on Thai and regional news and issues of interest to expats and foreign tourists.

There are 15 members of the U.N. security council.9 of them voted to stop the bombing. Guess which two "permanent member" countries didn’t vote for that resolution? The regimes similar to those in Myanmar & North Korea..China & Russia.
As for sanctions,my own country Australia has these in place
-restrictions on supplying arms or related matériel
-restrictions on the provision of certain services
-restrictions on providing assets to designated persons or entities
-restrictions on dealing with the assets of designated persons or entities
-travel bans on designated persons
Both Britain & the U.S. have similar sanctions.
Guess who doesn’t?
(Reuters) – Myanmar’s military has imported at least $1 billion in arms and other material since it staged a coup in February 2021, a UN expert said on Wednesday in a new report that calls out Russia and China for aiding the junta’s deadly campaign to crush its opposition.
Yet, some people don’t mind the citizens of these countries, whether supportive of their evil regimes or not, heading off to holiday destinations, just like the Germans did in the 1930’s.
Thanks Tim 👍👌
Yeh and i was holding my breath for 90 days exempt visa news, "supposed" to be a review on tues 6th feb,…
Jesus wept. Let’s be realistic here. There’s no turning back. Are they seriously going to put thousands out of business? How do you possibly put the genie back in the bottle? The police hear those magic words, "it’s illegal again". Once again, LOS is courting disaster. Remember, few laws are enforced. They’re enforced only when they can make money doing it. Chaos.
All the shops payed for licences to sell cannabis. Many many people got licences to grow cannabis farms. Then there are all the gardening suppliers, glass wear business etc etc. Many took out loans once they got their licences to start and now tgey are going to get robbed by the establishment. The cannabis industry will be controlled by elite families like alcohol now they know the money to be made, especially after japan and Germany approved medical use and spproached Thailand for supply…and the alcohol lobby wanted recreational cannabis banned because they want the marketfor recreationaldrug use..and china wanted recreational use banned.
Makes me
Laugh how some people are so anti broccoli 🥦. Booze is far more destructive and damaging to the body and society. I hope all these businesses don’t get shut down, would be a step backwards…
Tim. Where you are sitting today, it looks like you have a halo around your cranium. Didn’t realise you were a Saint. Are you selling any indulgences?
One potential approach could be to legalize recreational cannabis for foreign visitors, requiring only a passport for purchase. Meanwhile, for Thai citizens, access could be restricted to those with a valid prescription.
nice "Pastel Green" paint
Theres always some virus every year now in Europe its Measles and its spreading to countries that have already eradicated it.
They need to control Ya Ba and Guns. Cannabis is comparably harmless.
I really mean thank you. God that you are not inside that restaurant or chick. Fil AI wanna call it Chick-fil-A. Uh, I can’t pronounce it, but thank God. They’re close and yeah to do your video simply stuff yeah thank you
too much bad news for today 😱
👻
Tourism will drop you watch if they banned marijuana four personal use
Great job Tim!
Tim I am very happy with the control over cannabis the problem is they open the gates to the woke generation. There nothing good about smoking pot everyday my best friend 40 years later is burned out
Be sure a check out Mr Hart’s contribution to the cannabis debate he posted this afternoon (@ Integrity Legal Thailand). He very vehemently (as only Ben can) shares some valuable insights.
I wait with bated breath on the C + H bill and look forward to the various enactments of the government and locals. More drama than a Shakespearean play. ”O’ Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Reefer?”
Changing the drug laws again will make all the drug dealers very happy.
What d f c!
Offended by cannabis!
Red card!c
give it up tim: highly opinionated
Talking of a "legal vacuum" is wrong. Under common law, if something is not specifically illegal, than it is illegal. It assumes that it should be illegal in the first place to frame the conversation in this way. Not you, Tim, referring to what you read and quoted.
Thanks, Tim, for bringing us up-to-date news from Thailand.
Alcohol causes more problems than cannabis. Worse for your health. Smell of puke and urine on the sidewalks from drunks is worse than the smell of pot. Easy solution is to have designated smoking areas like cigarettes for all the Karens’ that dont like it.
Thank you please for not being inside the damn capcafeyes the color is knife.
How is wonders why you say the beach is around over there? When you’re at the chick, whatever it is cafe shop. So why did you not take your coffee and go across? Set your sofa and show the beautiful beach. I’m always wondered that you say it many times well, I’m at the you know, blah blah blah blah cafe where it crosses the beach in never saw you never should ever. If it was that great you would sur
Oh it’s nice color
Don’t know much about weed in Thailand, do the government make any money from weed being sold there?
Hello Tim, thank you for the Thailand News. Well I knew it would be a problem with the broccolli shops opening all over the place. Here in Australia it is a problem. When you get a guy that is 18 years old and has done a serious crime, and when the Judge says he is a child. I wonder where he got his degree from which country.
Tim,
could you and Steve sing the thai national anthem during you next grumpy old man show ?
Please 😀
You may know this "Ricky Issan"’s wife died of Dengue fever last year. I though there was some sort of vaccinations for Dengue.
I interviewed one of the "shop" managers for my YouTube channel a few weeks ago. We had a long discussion into what is required to open a legitimate "shop" and "Broccoli" farm. One thing was clear to me. When the government decimalized broccoli, they were not concerned about the recreational use. In order for a legitimate store to open, all employees must complete an online course. In addition, every store that opened is to be licensed with permits issued by the government. Surely, the government was aware that all these overnight shops opening up all the sudden were not just selling medicinal "broccoli". There are restrictions placed on the farming of "broccoli" as well. To be clear, the Thai government opened up Pandora’s Box 18 months ago, and is now trying to put the demon back into the box. The policies have been set by the government on how to open and operate these shops. Now, due to the people’s majority mandate from the previous election, they are going to try to "regulate" their way out of the mess they started. While the government claims that recreational "broccoli" was never legalized, they sure didn’t do much to stem the growth of the industry.
9:25 dengue fever: let`s wear masks. That will surely help.
To be honest, I don’t see Thailand doing anything about the Myanmar situation due to their self-declared neutrality. They’ll give some attention to refugees coming across the border but that is as far as it will go. Unless the conflict spills over the border and local Thai’s become casualties, the government will maintain a hands off approach.
The new house looks lovely, the porthole window is a nice touch indeed. Well done, as usual Tim.
In relation to new 🥦 laws, they will be what they will be. It will really depend on how they are enforced. eg prostitution is illegal in Thailand
Thanks for the news. Mint cream color for the house is very nice
I visited Chiang Mai a few months ago and indulged in smoking weed, but to be perfectly honest I was gob smacked at the amount of weed shops, I stood on a street corner and counted 10 outlets, in my way of thinking that was just stupid and over kill, I thought at the time that the government would have to step in and control it, so it looks likes thing are going to change and the prisons will be full again
Such a shame what they are doing in Pi Leh, they should do what they did to Maya – close it off for a while then define strong limits on motorised as well as numbers allowed entry. Unfortunately with the no holds barred approach to tourism here, thats unlikely to happen,
Love the colour and nautical windows, 😊💙🤗
Becareful Tim, you have touched on political subjects (well done). I don’t want you shut down, I rely on you for my updates.
Oops Tim. Looks like you lost a subscriber there – Mark Merrygold.
I think we should go ahead and make grapes, figs, peaches and every other ag product that can be used to make harmful substances. Want grapes? Go to a doctor. ,get a prescription, and wear this ankle bracelet . For your protection and the greater good.
Hello from, Phuket. Regarding the brocc shops, it’s really an issue for Thailand and unless you are Thai I don’t think anyone outside has a say in it. Something commenters may want to think about.
Thumbs up 👍 Khun Tim

10:33 … who wants to ba save cons Dengue, gets the new vaccine from Japan QDENGA, just two shots, works against all 4 sorts of Dengue, lifetime protection!
Absolutely tragedy how the world has ‘ignored’ such a wonderful nation in Myanmar, with some of the nicest people I have ever met in my entire life, and one of the most beautiful countries on planet earth, being silently destroyed. 🙏🏻🙏🏻
The only people who want to get rid of weed are the beer and whiskey companies.
