How and When to Use Cal-mag for Growing Cannabis

Growing cannabis is a lot of fun until your plants start dying without any rhyme or reason.
Well, there certainly is a reason, but you may not see it first. Moreover, this can be very frustrating, especially if you’ve cared for the plants like they are your own children. Among the many problems facing plants, cannabis nutrient deficiencies are the most common and can end up causing nutrient lockout.

What is Cal-mag and how can we use it in cannabis growth and when is the Right time to use it?”
Some of you may be thinking about Cal-mag and why should you need to use it for cannabis!
Knowing that your plant has a nutrient deficiency is essential for maintaining a healthy crop because cannabis plants need nutrients to develop the branches, leaves and further along into their growth cycle, the buds.

A nutrient deficiency occurs when your plants don’t get enough food, become stressed and can be more susceptible to bugs, mold, and diseases which can reduce the yields and ultimately kill your plants. These nutrient deficiencies often present in the leaves, such as yellowing, burnt tips, and in more serious cases, crispy and burnt leaves.

it’s important to know that a nutrient deficiency is not only caused by underfeeding but also due to improper pH levels and should not be confused with nutrient toxicity, which is caused by excessive feeding.

Cal-mag is nothing more than a supplement of Calcium and magnesium and other nutrients, cal-mag deficiency often happen together in plants. This is why most growers deal with cal mag deficiency at some point. The easiest way to deal with cal mag deficiency is to add good quality composite to the soil.

You can add garden lime, crushed eggshells, dolomite, and even fish meal to enhance the quality of your soil. And of course you can Use a Cal-Mag Supplement directly.
So you can mix Cal-mag with your normal nutrients solution that you can store in gallon of water.

The reason of using cal-mag is to fulfill the requirement of minerals to plant. If we talk about the dosage of Cal-Mag then the exact dosage would be 3-5 ml per gallon of water, this 5ml will be equal to one teaspoon so for 5 gallons it will be 20-25ml of Cal-Mag.

5ml will be the initial dosage amount for soil if you have existing calcium and magnesium deficiency in your plants. But if you want to use it as a preventive measure then you need to start with 1-1.5ml per gallon.

If using a soilless medium such as coco coir, then it’s a good idea to load up on the Cal-Mag prior to transplanting your established clone or seed. Start with 5 mL/gallon for the first few watering’s, then reverse back to 1-1.5 mL/gallon thereafter.
But when should you use cal-mag?

If you are experiencing calcium magnesium deficiencies then we recommend not waiting, applying 1 or 2ml of cal-mag per gallon of water and pouring straight to your plants. the ideal time of using cal-mag is in day time or after the lights turn on, Because during the day the movement of water is quicker than at night.

The best way to resolve nutrient issues with cannabis is to catch them early. But it’s even better to prevent likely issues outright, which is why you should use a light dose of Cal-Mag throughout your grows

So, in summary the starting dosage of cal-mag should be 1-3 ml/gallon as a preventive measure. And for most growers the ideal time of watering is just before the rising of sun. Because plant will stay in a healthier environment all day long.

You forgot to mention using banana peel cut up and put it in what you are going to feed with leave it in PHed water with a air stone for 24 to 48 hours before use, works for roses or really any plant.

If you are using cal/mag as a preventative measure do you use it every time you feed or like once a week?

In RO water or well water?

I use NPK industries cal-mag and it calls for 1/16-1/8 per gallon of water. I am dealing with a cal-mag deficient grow using Fox Farm Ocean Forest soil. It’s frustrating the sh@t outta me. I’m still a novice but have had successful grows in the past using NPK Raw nutrients. Genetics and plants with tap roots are far easier to grow than clones in my opinion. I’ve only had nute deficient grows from cloned plants.

A wise man once told me you can crush up anti acid tablets and feed them as a top dressing for deficiency.

Autoflower, Soil: So I water (tap after 48 hours) 2 quart per 5 gallon soil every other day. I was told to stop using: (cal_mag 2ml/micro 2/grow 1/bloom 3) Per gallon. I started a week ago because of yellowing/spotting/drying leaves. So I increased ph watering at 7ph, but runoff is still around 4ph after one week. When I test for runoff I add more water into the soil about 15 min after the first 2 quart using a clean bucket. I notice that the runoff looks almost dark yellow (like tea). Then I take that water into a cup and test which it shows at 4ph (way too low!!!). I look this up and some say to use: Dolomitic Lime 6 teaspoons per gallon. I look up Dolomitic Lime and that only comes in "Pulverized Dolomitic Lime" which is hard to dissolve in water? Showing pictures is not going to do anything because the plants are like I mentioned: Yellow/spotting/drying, all this started during flowering. Flowering started about 3 weeks ago with no sign of budding. Should I increase the calmag to 5 ml per gallon and only use that in the water, making sure that ph is around 7? Please help. Thank You!

Thank you this is really helpful, no one presents deficiencies that way when it comes to figuring out the problem is cal-mag, but this looks like my deficiencies exactly. crispy leaves that seem like underwatering but in humid soil, burnt tips that looks like the plant is dying, I just got my coco a and b today gonna see if it brings them back to health for sure 😀 I’m using a mix of light soil mix and coco coir, i amended it with some organic nutrients and worm castings, but i feel cal mag is the one missing ingredient for a perfect ecosystem.

I water everyday. I use a splash or hint of this and a big glass of water. Looks good so far. I’m in flower on one plant Transplanted to a 5 gal

dont use it i grow organic and with good biology its never a issue and my soil base is peat moss 1/3 rd compost , and GAIA GREEN ORGANIC AMMENDMENTS oyster shell powder is my cal i mix my soil 3 weeks before use to activate it and use RECHARGE

Could i use garden lime instead or will it not be sufficient 🤔

My additive stop using Cal-mag and bottle nutrient all together. Instead use organic amendments like espoma garden tone 344 which has every micro and macronutrients available and the bacteria to break it down and help regulate the uptake of these nutrients. Otherwise you will be giving your plant Cal-mag which is laced with nitrogen that it didn’t need on top of that regardless of the nutrient used. When a plant encounters synthetic nutrients they uptake them regardless if they need them or not. Then they get nutrient lock out and nitrogen toxicity as a result. When all they needed at the time was magnesium sulfate found in Epsom salt and a 1/2 in one gallon of water will do the trick. Or if you need just calcium. Then use egg shells ground into a powder in a blender or coffee grinder. Then let them steep in a small amount of boiling water for an hour. Then let it rest and cool overnight. The next day you can apply it. But do not do something even more stupid like using vinegar to draw out the calcium. Because vinegar is also a substitute for ph down and only a few drops can reduce a healthy soil ph of 6.4 to 4 or less in no time at all. That’s also another reason to go full organic soil amendments in combination with GreatWhite or recharge. Using soil microbes and mycholrizal fungi and trichoderma bacteria blend. Will regulate the soil ph levels and the nutrient uptake. That’s why I’m truly giving you the very best way to grow organic.

Cannabis is medicine. Criminalization of cannabis violates the constitution. Health care comes second to government corruption. Government corruption is protected by the courts, police and sheeple

Love the info on ur channel✌️👍🍀🇮🇪. At the moment I’m growin a Purple Punch in DWC, just started her 7th week into flower😁💞. I use 4ml Cal-Mag per gallon, not much of a variation in amount, depending on growth stage.

If using RO, I bring my ppms to 150-200 (500 scale) then add nutes. From clone to flush. I had so many issues prior to using calmag. Just watch the nitrogen level of any calmag you buy. Try to find 1-0-0. That’s what worked…for me using high pressure arroponics

I tell ya what, for a plant that is supposed to be sooooo resilient, they sure as fuck are super finicky. Basically do anything wrong and they’re fucking dead
