Love it, I think I’ll use it this year. Would appreciate a quick video on watering a tray of these. Also which plants can or cannot stay in that size cup for 6 or 8 weeks

  2. @QuinnDruck on April 2, 2024 at 8:59 am

Very nice will save this video for later. This year I’m using newspaper, ripping them down to half or a quarter, then wrapping them around various sized bottles for the shape (until I can eyeball the size), then using a flour/water glue to paste the cups together. Ideally some will be for starting seed, others will be for vegetating indoors until they’re ready for the garden. But my goal is to create cups that will fall apart so the roots can push through the paper, I’ve noticed in the past using jiffy seed starters or paper cups that are simply too thick to deteriorate quickly will bind the roots and limit growth substantially.

What a great idea! Nowdays everyone wants to buy more and more stuff that doesn’t last long and wasted a lot of money. This is an excelling thing to do, it will fall apart in ground and it basically doesn’t cost a dime

    Awesome idea, great video!

  6. @khandonkey349 on April 2, 2024 at 9:04 am

Awesome video, I saw the newspaper ones and looked this up because I was curious if you could do it with regular paper, great job exactly what I needed to learn today!

  7. @lisagoldberg5178 on April 2, 2024 at 9:06 am

Garden Origami! Great that you can just plant in one step, plant and all.

  8. @getin3949 on April 2, 2024 at 9:09 am

8 1/2" x 11" is a standard size in America, not every country has standard sized paper.

  9. @marynancy1187 on April 2, 2024 at 9:11 am

I saved my large paper shopping bags and planted my seedlings in these. The seedlings had a protected environment to establish themselves.

  10. @wendyhaines8609 on April 2, 2024 at 9:11 am

    So simple, great instructions!!

  11. @cherylanon5791 on April 2, 2024 at 9:12 am

how deep are those pots? usually my plants have really long roots going thru bottom of pots, I like deep pots. Is there a way to fold paper for deeper pots?

  12. @davidmcfatridge on April 2, 2024 at 9:12 am

You have my sincere respect. You truly want to help your viewers. Many YouTube channels are just trying to fleece people

  13. @michelleclanin6251 on April 2, 2024 at 9:12 am

Thanks for showing this… I’ve done the newspaper where you roll it up but this will work great as well, thanks!!

  14. @steveplays5408 on April 2, 2024 at 9:14 am

Cool idea. But at my age I done want to give up that much of the time I have left when you can just reuse the plastic containers year after year after year.

But if ur board hey why not

    Awesome

  16. @lenasisney7593 on April 2, 2024 at 9:19 am

Thank you! I’m starting my garden on a budget and trying to use what we have first. I love this idea and praying it works well for me. I’ve made aboit 25 in an hour since watching this with scrap paper

  17. @davidlee2052 on April 2, 2024 at 9:21 am

    What’s tick-tock?

  18. @brewboss58 on April 2, 2024 at 9:24 am

Good Video, Thank you. I was able to learn your method in one try!
I just wanted to bring up one issue that you might or might not have discussed elsewhere but I think should be expressed. Common white paper, which you might be using in this video, goes through a bleaching process to make it white so it may contain traces of bleach that could leach into soil. Also, newsprint, as artists know, contains enough acid to ruin other papers and corrode susceptible metals when left in prolonged contact, so neither of these papers may be a good choice for organic gardeners or those who just want to avoid modern chemical contaminants in their starter mixture. A better choice might be plain brown paper from a grocery bag.

  21. @moonprints on April 2, 2024 at 9:27 am

Would cardstock work if you want it stronger?

  22. @AmeliaRate on April 2, 2024 at 9:29 am

Witchcraft! jk, thanks for the tip and tutorial! Going to be using these instead of dixie cups this year, the circular shape never fits right when I have them all in a flat together.

  23. @getin3949 on April 2, 2024 at 9:30 am

If you would have used colored paper and stopped after each fold, then showed us what it looked like it would be a lot easier. I’m left handed so I have a tendency to do the reverse of what right handed people do. Mine looked just like yours after all of the folds but it did NOT open up to be a box.

  24. @danielleaf9146 on April 2, 2024 at 9:31 am

Awesome. I think I will use the KFC brown paper bag that is in my recycling tub! Stronger and will decompose, right?

  25. @tammydorion2244 on April 2, 2024 at 9:32 am

Good morning my friend, I had a question about your paper cups. I used newspaper for years as bedding for worms and about 5 years ago my worms were like melting. I called my local paper and found out that they were using a petroleum based print. Do not use for bedding anymore. Do you think it would effect my paper cells and just use sheets of paper instead? Thanks

  26. @wendy9937 on April 2, 2024 at 9:32 am

    Thanks Gary

  30. @flatsville1 on April 2, 2024 at 9:36 am

The wine bottle roll & fold method allows you to create a deeper pot if needed. There’about a million YouTube vids on the method.

Thank you for demonstrating how to make these seed pots!

  32. @susanmyer1 on April 2, 2024 at 9:36 am

Awesome!! Will have kids folding paper this afternoon

  33. @pa.fishpreacher6166 on April 2, 2024 at 9:39 am

Gary I use the Toilet paper rolls like your cups, they worked well for seed starting and they will decompose like paper in the soil

  34. @lianash1900 on April 2, 2024 at 9:42 am

I made those a few years ago. Sadly plants were growing much worse than in plastic 😔

  35. @dartlanddunbar5842 on April 2, 2024 at 9:42 am

    WOW

  36. @TheEbc123 on April 2, 2024 at 9:42 am

What are the dimensions of the sheet of paper shown in the video? You said "standard sheet", which could be 8.5" x 11" for those in the U.S.

  37. @LEGATOSLAVE on April 2, 2024 at 9:43 am

It is driving me crazy so I have to ask. How does the paper pots not break down fast from watering?

  38. @SWCnetworkdr on April 2, 2024 at 9:43 am

Awesome! I’ve found since the gardening bug bit me that everything gets looked at with an eye to "Can this be useful in the garden?"
Cut half gallon cardboard milk cartons in half…cut water bottles as individual plant humidity domes…see-thru plastic salsa containers for seed starters…etc.

Nice ,gave me lots of ideas for waste paper.

Origami folding is amazing and this is a fun project. That being said, please remind your viewers of the devastatingly dangerous chemicals used in paper mills using bleach. The chemicals cause dioxin, and any waterway downhill from mills is full of this carcinogenic chemical. Please consider using unbleached paper only when making these seed starters as we don’t this chemical showing up in our gardening. We all know plants absorb nutrients from the soil and since you’re trying to be more healthy by gardening, you don’t want the chemicals. Use unbleached paper only!!!❤ 🌎🌳🦋

  47. @tymegrow9075 on April 2, 2024 at 9:56 am

You said that you can just place the cup with the seeding into the ground. Do you open the bottom when setting it in the soil?

  48. @rosewood513 on April 2, 2024 at 9:56 am

I love these for more than one reason. They are easy, just like making a sailors hat when we were kids. I can get rid of all those awful little pods. These are a perfect size. You can write on the box no more markers. I can het 10 into a standard shoe box…I get to use up all the misprint paper. Thankyou… I want to check out the newspaper one.

  49. @adiosepic1829 on April 2, 2024 at 9:57 am

Never expected to find origami on a gardening channel. Hell yeah.
Thank you for so much for your amazing videos, Gary. I am relieved and inspired – this is my first year "gardening", and I’m so excited to apply the knowledge I’m getting through your excellent channel.

Great idea Gary, that is a hugh savings than buying the cups ect.
