Almost 6 years after Canada legalized cannabis, most users buying from legal sources

It’s been almost six years since Canada legalized cannabis across the country and there’s new data from Statistics Canada looking at where Canadians are buying their products.

The data found that more than one third of those 18-44 and one in seven adults 45 and older used cannabis in 2023, and among those who had, 71.7 per cent bought exclusively from legal sources. Product safety was among the biggest reason, with convenience and a desire to follow the law also cited.

As Sean Previl reports, cannabis advocates say the data is “exciting,” but some health-care professionals are concerned more study into the products’ affects on the body still needs to be done.

Back in the 80’s the whole world was looking for the dirt on canabis and what they found was that canabis is not any more toxic than crayola crayons.

Canada is really going down. I like it 😂😂

Legal weed quality is worse but you have a huge selection and convenience. Don’t gotta coordinate when to meet with dealer, just go to store during operating hours, pay with credit card and leave.

  5. @user-cr4jc6ei5e on April 19, 2024 at 8:10 am

To much tax, not able to see the product before buying. The Canadian model has a lot of room for improvement.

Probably the only thing trudeau did right. Im a user of cannabis less than the past but ill pay a bit of extra coin for the convenience and knowing what ur getting is what it says.

Alcohol kills many people drinking and driving , fights etc etc. It’s been legal forever. Legal marijuana is not an issue at all in my opinion.

    >>>>>>:::Legalize cannabis federally in each and every single state right now, today. This way, irrational politicians can’t obstruct and prevent legalization against the will of the vast majority of Americans whom support full federal cannabis legalization nationwide. Treat cannabis exactly like we treat far more dangerous and deadly yet completely legal alcohol. Legal in all states.:::<<<—–

The reserves have better weed, and it’s a fraction of the cost… and no tax money goes to these incompetent fools in Ottawa

We need higher THC edibles to actually neutralize the black market. 10mg is a joke for most people

They should not make it look like candy.

  17. @DJDinnerPlaTe on April 19, 2024 at 8:22 am

Regular weed isn’t what they should be studying, it’s the fake terpenes and cartridges. Distillate sucks anyways but it’s cheap so people buy it

I know for a fact your stats are off. As much as I would like to buy from the store, it’s still too expensive.

I don’t smoke thank god but this legal pot is a joke it’s a gateway always has been and I don’t tolerate anyone at my business doing it for any reason at all. If you need it for some sort of medical then it should be in a pill otherwise it shouldn’t be tolerated not to mention it sticks like crap!

We need doctors supporting prescription for medicinal use and for health insurers to cover these.. if i were to use for pain and stress, I rather use cannabis than narcotics and antidepressants. And for the Govt to help cannabis industry grow, more research studies and help companies make this affordable by reducing taxes.

Hows yalls opioid crisis? Wasn’t this supposed help

  34. @hammyhamhamster5993 on April 19, 2024 at 8:42 am

Cannabis should be absolutely just as legal and easy to obtain anywhere as alcohol currently is. In every single state. No exceptions. It’s so easy: As legal and easy to obtain/use as alcohol currently is. Why hold relatively benign, often healing cannabis to any sort of irrational, stricter double standard than perfectly legal alcohol?….

I’m not gonna buy my cannabis from the government, they blow all the keefe & crystals of that stuff, super weak weed!—->Fact!

  42. @Egzoset on April 19, 2024 at 8:51 am

Intuition tells me this all actually started around 2010, long story. Anyway we recently got some striking conclusions last November at the "26es JASP" in Québec city, when co-author of a study on 42 teen eastern schools pediatrician Richard Bélanger revealed the kids TRIPPLED their use of jetable Wax Pen (in only 4 years of « légaleezation»… ) while psychiatrist and senior SCAM-SMCA member Didier Jutras-Aswad warned that these THC distillate products also had their "potency" TRIPPLED (because our state MONOPOLY the $Qd¢ only offers 30 % max.)! What the reader may fail to notice is that La Presse which provided infographic services to contribute to the study have illustrated a 2 g Burn Lemon Haze which is "bio" and LEGALLY produced in B.-C., though later sold by Mohawks (…) of Ontario where it’s equally LEGAL – just not in Québec.

Consequently i’d be tempted to point out any reasonable strategist could have seen it coming, which tells me at some decisional level(s) it was judged a priority to, euh… M’well, fill the gaps! In short the 1st error occured at UNGA$$ 2016 when Justin Trudeau could have simply removed "Indian Hemp"/"Cannabis sativa L." from all onusian int’l treaties. But he couldn’t « $ay NO »… to EASY MONEY instead, which ain’t the best « Raw Model » for a rising youth with internet in their pocket, when not in the palm. The 2nd error was to fail his duty to correct the national ban of another liberal federalist Henri-Sévérin Béland, who performed the UNILATERAL TRANSFER of an EXCLUSIVE PROVINCIAL "compétance" which Québec assumed for 33+ years, e.g. since it revised « cédule » of the Pharmacy Act titled ‘Liste des Poison’, where the noble plant as designated above got juxtaposed besides arsenic and cyanure! No need to explain how such claim would be received in a court of justice seeking professional expertise today. So, UNGA$$ 2016 was quite the place where to announce an historical correction, at last. Instead mister selfie put his red boxer and gloves just the next day, right after a "4-20"… Considering the joint UN/WHO declaration of mid-December 2017 on CBD it’s our provincial agriculture, fisheries and food mister who should have authority while CBD seels besides letuce in grocery markets and local stores. In contrast, living near Trois-Rivières i can testify it’s absurd to pretend the 3 UNGA$$ 2016 announced goals are our guiding light with only *ONE* store coreving a zone ranging in the hundred kilometers. Why not send money direct to the parallel economy and ask « organized crime » to stay home at peace! M’yeah, pay them so to avoid pushing kids in their arms again… Would that be so foolish as it sounds? Now ask ME how that’s a voluntary act to be over-billed/over-taxed when 1 g of moisture per 28 g bad translates as 221 times the cost of drinking water… The United Nations pretends over-billing is to fight consumption but is that another « Raw Model » for future youth to tax WATER?? And CBD for that matter?! Imagine after finding holes under the microscope and realize these where left by an insect infestation – hence intensified Pest Control Product « tra¢e$ » must have left behind to "save" the harvest in extremis, so i can be abused and insulted all at once. A « $u¢¢e$$ » for anyone else who makes a dime on it, maybe.

  47. @lucasleandromargulis on April 19, 2024 at 9:00 am

Grow it or buy it legally! Why support criminals and why put cannabis inside your body that isn’t regulated. If you smoke cannabis from the illegal market, you’re probably also smoking a lot more crap that isn’t cannabis inside that flower (pesticides, feces, mold and more).

  48. @RetiredPilot on April 19, 2024 at 9:01 am

sounds to me many people don’t want to admit where they buy it. LOL

  49. @O-smoka on April 19, 2024 at 9:03 am

In Washington State the weed ranges from high quality($40 an eighth) to good enough($15 an eighth). All the stores I go to are locally grown with no governmental interference. No more meeting in parking lots or back alleys.

How is it legal if you can’t grow it.
