Is it time for cannabis to be legalised in the UK? – Public Lecture, April 2018

In this lecture, Lancaster University’s Dr Gary Potter and Dr Thaddeus Müller investigate why and how some American states have recently legalised recreational cannabis, and consider why this path has not been followed in the UK so far.

So I take it that people who want it legalised are OK with the guy who drives the school bus or the train or the plane having a few puffs ?? , I think you will find that regular tests will be made on people whether they like it or not .

This is the kind of non-hysterical talk we need about cannabis, nice! It’s just that people have been brainwashed about this issue for so many decades, that it takes time to get used to the idea, that cannabis is actually quite OK.

the fact that this question has to be asked is proof of the brainwashing of the public over the last 100 years. absolutely absurd

A United Nations report in March found that Britain was the world’s biggest exporter of legal cannabis.

Theres more money in it for the government if its illegal at the moment. Once they’ve personally lined their pockets as much as they can and cant drag it out any longer then we might see some change. The UK is the biggest drug dealer of Cannabis in the world.

I use cannabis to help me with dystonia myoclonus I would rather use cannabis than 13 tablets a day. Cannabis has improved my life for the better.

Its funny how Canada and some states in the US have the right idea, yet the bloody British government are too uptight on legalising it. imagine how much revenue it can make and feed that revenue to our NHS or funding flood victims up in the North of England for better flood defences with addition to medicinal properties..the list is endless! UK politicians need to get there shiit together and stop living in the dark ages..

It’s good to see an informed discussion on this topic. I believe the UK will legalise cannabis. It’s time for the government and home office to start treating it’s electorate like adults. I have myself grown and used cannabis for nearly 30years now, no harm done, it actually helps my ache’s and pains. I am a normal, middle aged family man….and I have voted at every election!

This really does just feed the war on drug! The truth is cannabis does not need to be legalized! It simply need to be removed from the illegal drugs list as its a plant not a drug (which is man-made substance) look up the definitions a plant does not fit under the category of a drug or a substance! It’s a naturally growing plant . It cannot be legalized it isn’t up to man to deny a plants existance. I’m amazed of hearing the talk of legalization it shouldn’t be legal or illegal just like all other plants! All focus should be on its current status IT BEING ILLEGAL . THE ILLEGAL STATUS IS WHAT’S WRONG HERE!

I think that its about education and then laws will have to change along with how cannabis is viewed! and people can consider quality and all other things that will only benefit us as then the person selling can set better price for a product ! that is seen to be quality ! and the buyer in turn has a more wellrouned and informed choice and the government get some taxs. so all know we’re he or she stands as far as the law. then it sets a standard which is good for everyone.
