Building Soil for Cannabis in a Grassroots Fabric Pot Raised Bed
Building Soil for Cannabis in a Grassroots Fabric Pot Raised Bed
Todd & Eric from Organics Alive stopped by to build some soil for the Pacific NW Roots seeds (Righteous Flame – Harlequin x Fire Alien Freeze) we popped last week.
My goal is with each round to feature someone different showing how they make their soil. Like opinions, everyone has one, everyone has their own way to do it 🙂
We made enough soil for one Grassroots Fabric Pots living soil 4′ x4′ raised bed, which is about ~ 20 to 22 cubic feet. We used Fox Farm for no other reason than that’s what the supply store had. Interestingly, lots of stores are out of a lot of product right now as it seems like everyone is starting up a home victory garden.
8 bags of Fox Farm Ocean Forest 1.5 cubic feet x 8 = 12 cubic feet
1 bag Berger BM6 3.8 cubic feet — 7.5 cubic feet fluffed up
1 bag Organics Alive Premium Mix 0.7 cubic feet. another 1/3 bag Premium Mix = .3 cubic feet
1 bag Organics Alive Worm Castings 0.7 cubic feet
The target was 10% premium mix, but we only had one bag of it. That’s why we also used the 1 bag of worm castings. We would have used just over 2 bag of Premium Mix had we had enough (and zero bags of pure worm castings).
Then, as we were transplanting:
Less than a gram per plant near the root zone of the VN Granular Slow Release. A sprinkling of worm castings around the seedling root zones. We wanted to add Mycorrhizae but didn’t have any. We will add that this week. We watered with a drop of fermented plant juice – FPF (Fulvic) mixed into Tom’s teensy tiny watering can.
We hit it with a compost tea two days later.

Let that baby talk ❤ lol
These guys started out with Ocean Forest That shits like $40 bucks a bag at a premium shop??? Just buy a few Oz. of topshelf bud, 4 different verities and be done with it… Times money!
I can’t believe you are using an indoor potting mix outdoors. That’s as bad as bringing dirt from outdoors and bringing it indoor. All you care about is selling stuff.
It’s that a mustang 2? Yuk 1 of the ugliest cars ever made
Thats a happy mockingbird in the background!
I have always heard that Fox Farm Ocean Forest is too much for young plants… too hot.
Nice guy , if he ever looks at the plants they might live…by the way he nods his head as the people helping him talk ,..you can tell he is oblivious seems like a nice guy but truly not a farmer 👨🌾..GOOD LUCK
The blind leading the blind. Those poor, poor seedlings.
FFOF is not building from scratch… Yikes.
Siempre llega un maldito perro 🤮
Major cringe on the seedling transplant lol. This is why we use Coco and let them veg a little.
Fox farms is super average soil y’all. Buildasoil, KIS Organics and Big Rootz until you learn to build your own recipes. Oh and buy EVERY book Jeff Lowenfels has written ✊🌱💚 ALWAYS grow organically so you know you’re not smoking chemicals from synthetic fertilizer, pesticide, herbicide, fungicide etc.
These guys are funny, leaving the car in the background is a [super] low key dad flex. Next you is gonna see some close up shots so one them can show off a stainless Rolex.
Love the kiddo! Regular folks enjoying, of all things, a plant. We need more of this!
When baby girl wanna talk baby girl gonna talk
I don’t get why people grow in a container outside. Why not plant in the earth where the plant can get all the nutrients it needs without all this high carbon footprint, expensive, labor intensive, ritual? My second year growing cannabis… used containers last year, grew in the ground this year…..this year’s yield is 10 times last year, at a fraction of the cost and labor of last year.
“HarleQUINN” lol
Home owner needs some yard and garden tools..
Check the ppm i betit mor then 1800 it will be lime 475×20
Ocean Forest alone can burn seedlings. I feel like these things are gonna burst into flames! Not only that, if these were started indoor, the sun alone could kill them. And the longer I watch, the more nutrients they add… haha!
Somebody get these guys a blade, please.
You are ripping people off with this mix outdoors.

An electric cement mixer is the bomb for mixing soil👍🏻
Those plants were transplanted too early they were barely into or past the cotyledon stage.
I cringed so hard once he said “fox farms”
I would use promix over that junk
Not to say that it’s bad but imo it’s the miracle grow of soil. There are so many talented local composters and soil makers! I highly recommend checking out coast of maine and Vermont compost company (I think they are called) not sure if you can get it on the west coast but I believe they would have a comparable blend. Also fox farms is very hot soil and I would not recommend it for seedlings.
Hey I am trying to grow some amazing cannabis and film it and I was wondering if you would sponser a grow and I would record it and it can show beginner’s can grow a beautiful plant with the rite advise?
Fox farm is quasi organic. Ocean forest contains urea, which is why they no longer carry the OMRI label on that product.
Will the roots grow threw the bottom of tht fabric raised bed?
im not watching some slob in track pants seriously get real buddy
The little girl makes the video amazing!!!!
Just go buy coast of main. It’s mixed already. Saves a lot of work.
Awesome build. Cost probably 1000$ for all that soil from scratch. Kiss.
They didn’t plan this very well…went to the hydro store that morning….opps, sold out of what they "really" wanted to buy.
Soil from " Scratch " . Opening a bunch of bags , bottles and bins is not from scratch.
3 materialistic idiots
Soil gonna be hot. Fox farm is trash by itself .
Hahaha, I love the patient parenting. Love that Mustang too, glad I found this video on here.
if their are any kids living in the house where u are growing its illegal.
They have grown a little in this video 😂
Thank you for the info
Hahahah kids someways …..😂 ❤🎉
Fox farm??? Really???? 😂
😱 🤣🤣🤣
Nothing like some gym bros knowing absolutely nothing about growing cannabis 🤣🤣
Cant believe that one guy wouldn’t help load the soil 😮 🤦♂️
44:30 he shakes the bottle. 5 min later homowner- shouldn’t you Shake that bottle?
If the guy that hardly works and thinks worms come from the internet showed up at my house I’d send his ass back to get the professional with dirty hands. Just sayin.
no composting??
Surely this is still going 2 years later with no issues and good results
