Blunt facts: What you need to know about New Mexico's recreational cannabis laws

While illegal in El Paso, many residents are expected to cross over to New Mexico when the Land of Enchantment begins recreational cannabis sales starting Friday, April 1.

A spokesperson with the El Paso Police Department said the department won’t be focusing on low-level cannabis possession arrests, and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said the office won’t focus “exclusively” on possession arrests, but will “continue to make arrests for possession of marijuana.”

On March 30, the Texas Department of Safety said they will enforce Texas’ state laws but said no specific enforcement initiatives are planned for New Mexico’s recreational sales.
