SULFUR DEFICIENCY

Sulfur is one of the few elements needed in lands quantities by plants. Sulfur along with nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus, calcium, and magnesium completes the six micro-nutrients that plants need in sufficient quantities to remain healthy and produce high yields. Sulfur is the fourth most important nutrients the plants, fter nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus. Sulfur, like many other nutrients, plays a variety of functions in plants health. It is a component of chlorophyll and this required the protein sythesis in plants which aids in the regulation of photosynthesis. Sulfur is also needed for nitrogen fixation in plants to extract nitrogen from the environment which makes legumes and other nitrogen fixing plants especially vulnerable to sulfur deficiency.

SIGNS OF A SULFUR DEFICIENCY

The first signs of a sulfur deficiency are pale, narrow than normal young leaves that can become brittle. Tiny mutated flowers, as well as buds on tops of flowering plants that will gradually die of, can also be present. Plant growth is counted in general and stems usually grow longer but not thicker. They can have become harder in appearance, unlike magnesium deficiency where yellowing starts of the leaf tips and progresses to the center, yellowing in the sulfur deficiency start at the back of the leaves and progresses forward. Sulfur overload can result in stunted growth and smaller leaves. There will be browning in leaf tips evenly appear spots in the leaves are dead. Sulfur toxicities appear to be similar to salt damage.

SOLUTIONS FOR SULFUR DEFICIENCY

The steps to fixing sulfur deficiencies are straightforward. If you’re going to use soil make sure that plants are partially dry first. They shouldn’t be entirely dry but the soil should be dry and the roots, if possible, should be as well. Growers using any kind of set-up then need to flush the plant with pH balance water. This will bring to growing medium back to natural so the growers can stop from scratch adding nutrients again. Of course, before those nutrients are added, the pH level in the growing medium needs to be tested and adjusted. Those growing in soil should aim for a pH level of 6.0-6.5. While there is growing in hydro or coco coir should strive for a pH level between 5.5 and 5.9. Once the pH level is balanced, nutrients may be added. Sulfur can be present in terms amount in most fertilizers on the market. Some growers will leave their plant in this point for a week or so if they need additional sulfur. Others skip ahead to the next stage which is to add more sulfur. There are many ways to growing medium can be supplemented with sulfur. This include Epsom salt, potassium sulfate, and magnesium sulfates. These are all contains sulfur and those suit for growers. They are also appropriate for those growing organic cannabis.

I work at a commercial farm. We blast sulfur in the air along with CO2. Plants don’t normally need sulfur in veg stages as they don’t have flower yet and sulfur gives the plant the gas and skunk smell, sulfur is more for flower stage. Love this video
