Josh Pate On Nick Saban & Dabo Swinney's Futures (Late Kick Cut)

Josh Pate On Nick Saban & Dabo Swinney's Futures (Late Kick Cut)

Nick Saban and Dabo Swinney find themselves in very unfamiliar territory this December – out of the College Football Playoff picture. On Late Kick Live Ep 337 Josh Pate responded to a viewer question about whether Alabama and Clemson may be slipping from the lofty perches they once found themselves on. While Alabama played for the national title the last two seasons including a win in 2020, Clemson hasn’t been there since 2019. These are by no means considerable droughts, but with the standard they set in the 2010s could we be seeing a slip back to the pack? Could Dabo Swinney and Nick Saban each be finding their programs in a recycling phase? Saban and Dabo haven’t slipped. Kirby and Harbaugh have ascended.

  2. Rusty Maximus on December 9, 2022 at 12:24 am

The portal will finally destroy them. They get the best, develop them, they transfer!

  3. Satcher Adams on December 9, 2022 at 12:26 am

It’s the transfer portal. DUH! since they started allowing students to transfer so easily, nick sabin coaching strategies are gonna have to change. He does not have as much control as before.

    Parity!!!!!

  5. Ron Homan on December 9, 2022 at 12:29 am

You are the best on college football on the internet by far !!!

  6. Bruce Wallace on December 9, 2022 at 12:33 am

I agree – it’s a flawed year. What you left out, Josh, is Georgia had a very sub-par performance at Missouri. However, they did what they needed to do to win – the mark of a champion – but surely showed they are a very beatable team. Hey – thanks for being the voice of college football reason Mr. Pate. Your well-reasoned commentary gives me the chance to listen to an objective opinion for a few moments.

  7. GlockMan945 on December 9, 2022 at 12:33 am

NEWSFLASH: Slipping Bama would beat TCU tomorrow on a neutral field. Facts over feelings.

  8. Daniel Barton on December 9, 2022 at 12:33 am

I think they will continue to slowly slip not because of coaching but because of the kids. Portal, NIL, selfishness, social media, SJW… this will destroy these dynasties

  9. Big T’ s Shack festival on December 9, 2022 at 12:37 am

Player development?? That’s laughable. Jojo Earl , Holden , Brooks had no chance in hell to be better than Waddle , D Smith , J Jeudy , All 3 made significant plays as freshman and were breakers from Day 1 !!! So how can it be lack of development when the other guys came in making plays ??? So if the weaker 3 were developed better they had a chance to be more effective than the 3 pros ?? No chance. Bama just missed on these guys. They won’t miss on every class though. Bama will always be a threat with the goat !!!!

  10. Jo McCutcheon on December 9, 2022 at 12:38 am

Love your show, love this channel, and thanks so much for not being political, all that does is divide the fans who watch your shows,,, I’m a Bama fan and I totally agree with you, Bama and Clemson will be just fine.

  11. helen salvia on December 9, 2022 at 12:38 am

good job Josh. Always enjoy listening to what you have to say

  12. Jay Cannon on December 9, 2022 at 12:39 am

    6:25 as you’re doing it at 6:17 😂

  13. Antione Jackson on December 9, 2022 at 12:40 am

Clemson won a championship this year

  14. B Rob on December 9, 2022 at 12:41 am

Bama problem is the coaching staff. Saban hired 2 guys that don’t know what their doing n don’t understand the talent that they have. Once Saban can fine find 2 coordinators that understand the importance an value to be coaching at Bama. Saban is at the point where he’s trusting he’s coordinators an you see how’s that going right now.

  15. Rush Storm on December 9, 2022 at 12:42 am

Their time is over. The one advantage they had was that they used to be the only ones who could pay players but now everyone can do it so the field has been leveled. Thank god for the NIL! 😂😂

  16. bernard mayles on December 9, 2022 at 12:43 am

They ain’t slipping, other teams are catching up. Portal and NIL is making playing field a little more even

  17. Mitch H on December 9, 2022 at 12:43 am

Dabo and Clemson were never on the level of bama. They do not play an sec schedule and he’s only taken them to 4 and won 2. It’s great don’t get me wrong but a far shot from the dynasty Saban has and most years clemsons biggest in conference challenge was FSU? NCST? If Clemson played an SEC west schedule I highly doubt they would have played for four titles

I like DJ but it was obvious Cade Klubnik gave Clemson a better chance to win when Cade’s team won the Spring game.

  20. GlockMan945 on December 9, 2022 at 12:49 am

Winning the SEC and making it to the Natty game last year and losing 2 games by an average of 2 points to 2 top 10 teams on the road with a hurt QB is slipping. LMAO & ROLL TIDE ROLL!

  21. Dan O Qam Yasharahla on December 9, 2022 at 12:49 am

Jesus Christ with all the crying, if Alabama doesn’t make it into the playoffs according to you type of people you can have flawed champions, everyone else who is it bama who made to playoffs are flawed and isn’t good enough type of logic. please bama was not good enough that is all get over it!!

  22. Bama Boy 81 on December 9, 2022 at 12:50 am

So doesn’t that have to do with the offensive coordinator more so than the talent of the receiver

  23. BIG-N-BAMA on December 9, 2022 at 12:50 am

I can tell you what the issue is, and it’s Worldwide,, Kids Suk.. See, that was easy…And it was totally Free, unlike Collage Football now..Well, it’s just Public knowledge now..And expect the un-expected for now on.. Liberalism is a Dangerous sickness..

  24. Robby Krohman on December 9, 2022 at 12:51 am

“No dominant teams this year… because Georgia hasn’t played anyone” what😂 love you JP but that take doesn’t make sense. I also would look for uga to slowly take that top recruiting spot👀 but bama is fine. Clemson, may not be unless they adapt to NIL and the portal

  25. Frank L on December 9, 2022 at 12:53 am

If Clemson had a legit QB they probably go undefeated this year. Slipping some maybe because he doesn’t take transfers, but they’re still a top 5 program

  26. S W on December 9, 2022 at 12:53 am

No they’re not running away with the recruiting rankings.. B’s ..I just looked at 24/7 recruiting rankings.. bama is barely ahead of Georgia..are you biased towards Ga

  27. Bama Boy 81 on December 9, 2022 at 12:56 am

Again that has to do with the offense coordinator that doesn’t know how to use the talent that he has on the field

  28. RT22 on December 9, 2022 at 12:57 am

Saban 10 and 2 let him have 2 or 3 seasons like this then freak out

  29. Rafeeq Turner on December 9, 2022 at 12:58 am

Was there a transfer portal in 2018?

  30. Paul on December 9, 2022 at 12:58 am

Dabo isn’t Saban and can’t replace duel coordinators and be the same thing year in and year out. Now Saban is getting too old. I think he is going to retire soon.

  31. BAMA HAMMER on December 9, 2022 at 1:01 am

Thanks for saying the Dynasty isn’t over we have had 15, 10 win seasons wich leads the FBS! Two losses by 4 points I can live with that 💯 👌! RTR this 🏆 run will be over when Saban retires!! Even then they will hire a high profile coach to keep this run going!!

  32. David Wilkinson on December 9, 2022 at 1:04 am

Well the argument should be Tennessee never was as good as you thought, they had Alabama at home and barely won…since were down playing UGA beating the so called #1 team in the country handedly at home

  33. Mitch H on December 9, 2022 at 1:05 am

I think Saban has just screwed himself. Before he came along any team in the country would be ecstatic with Clemson or Bamas season much less record. The standards have changed and no one is happy unless your competing for a national championship every year. I’m an auburn fan and I can admit Saban is the best ever. They didn’t have their best season but they lost to tenn and lsu away by a couple points! Both teams could have easily been in the playoffs! Do not count Saban out he’s going to make adjustments and next year things will change.

  34. Werewolf Lycan on December 9, 2022 at 1:06 am

Saban leaves his starters in too long, even when Alabama has a big lead in the fourth quarter. Reserve players need to start getting more snaps or they will keep hopping in the transfer portal.

  35. Otis John Jr. on December 9, 2022 at 1:07 am

The money difference in the B1G conference could soon help hire many of the nationally recognized top coaches. I don’t know when conference TV revenue will equalize it seems Disney has a strangle hold on the SEC now.

  36. Charles on December 9, 2022 at 1:08 am

Georgia wasn’t pushed? Kentucky, Missouri, Kent St. ?

  37. Ty_Paul on December 9, 2022 at 1:09 am

Gotta say you’re my absolute favorite person to listen to about college football. Always keep it real.

  38. Todd Bowles on December 9, 2022 at 1:09 am

    Bama O line needs work.

  39. Paul 6574 on December 9, 2022 at 1:09 am

Dabo is waiting for Saban to retire. He is already committed to becoming the next Alabama coach.

  40. Steven on December 9, 2022 at 1:11 am

Commenting after fist statement…. but duh, having to share athletes with all the other coaches now. Have you seen the sec coaches? I’ll watch now.

  41. Mookey on December 9, 2022 at 1:12 am

Covid recruiting is a culprit. Can’t evaluate a player over zoom

  42. T. Harris on December 9, 2022 at 1:13 am

Clemson is DEFINITELY on the downslide. Dabo doesn’t know what to do when he isn’t winning and it’s gonna be hard to fix without the two elite coordinators who jumped ship

  43. GlockMan945 on December 9, 2022 at 1:14 am

They beat A&M with backup QB and 4 or 5 turnovers. LMAO & RTR!

  44. Mitchell L on December 9, 2022 at 1:16 am

The issue is pretty clear: saban and dabo have lost what leverage they had and now their actual coaching ability comes to the forefront.. people like saban, spurrier, of course the biggest disaster urban liar have all proven dealing with unlimited free agency and NIL and out right payments to players, which alabama was probably the biggest violator in college sports, that they can’t operate in a sphere where respecting players and staff are tolerated.. these woketard universities don’t know how to do anything, but in professional ranks, ur held to a union, players, adults..I give saban one year, dabo maybe two.. Kirby is maybe 5-6 years from busting his nut and leaving.. the best coaches will succeed.. and it won’t be deion sanders, not coach prime.. sickening

  45. S W on December 9, 2022 at 1:17 am

Josh I told you before this season started it wouldn’t be Bama ..I told you Georgia would repeat and you disagreed with me..Why want you just be honest and admit you was wrong

  46. James Christerson on December 9, 2022 at 1:18 am

As a Georgia fan, I completely agree that we are flawed.

  47. Thomas Fish on December 9, 2022 at 1:20 am

It’s NIL. Every big school has booster resources; the 5- and 4- star players are going to be more spread out now.

  48. Edward on December 9, 2022 at 1:21 am

Josh, spot on with your points. Clemson and Bama aren’t going to tumble. They may stumble (or be stumbling), but those programs aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.

    Go Dawgs.

  49. Mike Schmidt on December 9, 2022 at 1:22 am

Clemson is not slipping, as a matter of fact, they’ve just inserted the missing piece.
