48 Hours Of LIGHT Before Harvest!

48 Hours Of LIGHT Before Harvest!

In this video I talk about the common practice of doing 48 hours of darkness before harvest and why people are now doing 48 hours of light before harvest instead. This video features a clip of Dr. Bruce Bugbee on Garden Talk podcast episode 46. If you enjoyed this video click that thumbs up button 🙂

Ever since I heard that THC levels drop in the dark, I have been moving my plants into 48 to 72 hours of light before Harvest. Continuous light so that it cannot sleep is the stress that helps it to really dense up, resin up, and finish getting ripe. Whether it be ice bathing the roots, splitting the stalk, or the light stress, it’s all just stress that causes the resin build up. I will also sometime close to harvest let my plant dry out to the point that it is drooping. I want the plant to think it’s about to die from no water. Then I will soak it. This also seems to help bring out the grease.

  11. Va Is For Growmies on December 16, 2022 at 3:44 am

I was just getting ready to do this! I am now chopping tomorrow 🪓🌱. Thanks for the knowledge 🧠

  12. Michael Rhoads on December 16, 2022 at 3:45 am

I’m not trying to knock what you’re doing, but this is incorrect according to Oaksterdam University. Age, maturation, & the time of day can affect the amount, & perhaps ratios of terpenes. One reason is their high evaporative rates at temps as low as 75°F 24°C. As plants mature their odor gets more intense & sometimes changes when they ripen. Plants are constantly producing terpenes, but they evaporate under pressure from sun or artificial light & rising temperatures. That means plants have more terpenes at the end of a dark period than after a full day of light. You can test this yourself. Check your plants odor early in the morning or right before your lights turn on & just before the sun sets or your lights turn off. You will find the odor stronger in the morning.

Also this scientists theory is that a plant won’t have enough energy to go longer than 12 hours without light is unheard of. Good luck with your grows.

  13. Big Rob on December 16, 2022 at 3:48 am

2 days of any conditions at the end of flower isn’t going to do shit, not enough time.

  14. Robynn Carroll on December 16, 2022 at 3:49 am

    Yep I’ll try it! Thanks

  15. Rob Green on December 16, 2022 at 3:53 am

I thought something was off with the 48 hours of light, all i heard was people referring to a study conducting in the netherlands but not really explaining the full picture.

  16. Darren Gil on December 16, 2022 at 3:53 am

The main reason/purpose I’ve always read behind the darkness before harvest is to deplete the stored sugars and translocate them out the buds and into the roots. This wasn’t mentioned at all and I believe if Bruce went down this thought path his opinion might change.

  17. Pillow Pants on December 16, 2022 at 3:55 am

My thoughts on the 48 hours of light would be don’t and here is why. The trichomes become amber the more they developed right? Well, if you let your plant grow until it has whatever % trichomes you want then it wouldn’t make any sense to just let it go an extra 2 days for trichome development because for every trichome that becomes more developed, 1 that is already developed can degrade to an amber one. Basically, you only stand the chance to increasing the % of over ripened trichomes. You simply shouldn’t have to do that. Nor should you try and time it out so you can do that, like its speeding up the flowering process or something. When you been growing for 4 months and have another month – month half of drying and curing to do, what really is 2 days? I plan to do my harvest in the morning so my lights will have been one for 4 hours that day. Just to wake them up and live’in them up a little bit before the big cut. This is a good video though and I appreciate you trying. I’m curious if it something you did eventually try and decide to keep doing? It certainly feels like hippey science lol but someone has to try it I guess!

  18. SetTheCurve on December 16, 2022 at 3:55 am

So reduce light intensity by half, increase lights from 12 to 24 hours, reduce temperature.

  19. TheJoshpalmieri on December 16, 2022 at 3:57 am

I have a jack herer auto I just finished 24hr light now into 48hr dark period. Will be chopping Sunday! Guess we’ll see?

  20. Stoner Thor on December 16, 2022 at 3:57 am

Went dark for 3hrs saw this video and turned them back on going for 48 hour light then harvest !

  21. Brandon Beattie on December 16, 2022 at 3:59 am

How did u make out with the 24 hours of light did u ever end up seeing a difference I would really love to know thanks Chris you the man brother love everything you guys do!!! 💚 stay lifted my friend 🙏

  22. Vollständigen Namen on December 16, 2022 at 4:02 am

there could still be something to the darkness before harvest though; if the thc turning to cbn requires light, having a prolonged period of darkness before harvest could mean theres still more thc produced, but none turned into cbn, which would result in more potency comapred to harvesting immediately.
also, mending with a prolonged period of light into a prolonged period of darkness (or vice versa) would also be interesting ^^

  24. Recharge on December 16, 2022 at 4:04 am

I’ve got 2 weeks left before chop. I might try this

  25. Da Man on December 16, 2022 at 4:04 am

A plant uses what it makes during the day at night and becomes accustomed to how much energy it makes a day… giving light would be better

  26. CJ`S Tavern&BrewHouse on December 16, 2022 at 4:04 am

what if you are already using 24 hrs of light from the
    beginning

  27. CE420 on December 16, 2022 at 4:06 am

Definitely going to be trying 48 hours of lights with cool Temps next time I grow.

  28. Bill Ward on December 16, 2022 at 4:07 am

Totally agree and glad the Dr Bugbee brought it to light. (Best Garden Talk eps). Being a C3 plant, cannabis does everything it needs to do, to grow, during lights on. The only reason to have any dark period, for photos, is to trigger and continue the flowering phase. Great video Chris.

  29. Johnathan Cole on December 16, 2022 at 4:07 am

I’ve been growing for about 2 years now. I’ve always done the darkness method since the beginning. However after watching this video I think I’m going to give the 2 days of light a shot. Why not right?

  30. Jurgen Bonaci on December 16, 2022 at 4:08 am

Lights on and reduce temperature definitely!!

  31. Ryanpwnkins on December 16, 2022 at 4:08 am

Boy, I’m glad I’ve found this video just about a week before I’m planning on harvesting my plant.

  32. JWils-82 on December 16, 2022 at 4:08 am

I love it when my buds grow all chunky like that. Dr. Bruce is the man, I learned a lot of what I know from Dr. Bruce Bugsby.

  33. D.A.N. on December 16, 2022 at 4:09 am

How were your results with 48 hours of light?

  40. ronj77 on December 16, 2022 at 4:16 am

Please help!!! 🙏🏽 Power outage lasting more than 43 hours (still out) 🤯 Last two weeks of flowering!! Should I just harvest early or continue lighting schedule when power is restored????

*More info: Lights came on that day and went off at mid day, and I’m not certain about the genetics

  41. Juan Salazar on December 16, 2022 at 4:17 am

Loved the podcast with Dr Bruce Bugby. He basically destroyed all the myths of growing. I use to flush my plants however I did stop flushing some time ago, but the topic of synthetic vs organic was awesome. I’ll definitely try the 48 hrs of light on my current grow. Thanks for all the info that you put out. I was just curious if you were in Cali because I too live in the desert and yes its dry here.

OK for an outdoor grower what does this mean end of the day? I have been harvesting in the AM dark haha, and it drives the hubs crazy.

  50. felix mikolai on December 16, 2022 at 4:29 am

bro its the wrong way of thinking about it. its about death, the plant realize the close death and in the act of dying the plant try to get attention to any kind of animal or human, to spread some seeds of it. wich it is producing at somepoint of stress level anyways
