Cheapest Water Chiller for Small Hydro RDWC DWC

Cheapest Water Chiller for Small Hydro RDWC DWC

#rdwc #waterchiller #hydro
I couldn’t take it any more. I needed something to stabilize my water temperature and originally I expected to pay $400 for a water chiller. but then I found this, tested it and it works perfectly. Despite it looking bootleg and the instructions being google translated hieroglyphics, everything worked out and its been over a month and no issues. My water is constantly cool and it fluctuates from 66-68 degrees Fahrenheit.

Actual one I bought: https://amzn.to/3t6dHB1
Cheapest on Amazon without Heat: https://amzn.to/3hgovHq
Black Hose I Used: https://amzn.to/3BSRkmO

For about the 8th time i decided to try rdwc again without a chiller, and fot the 8th time it failed. It always happens about the 2nd week in flower, no matter how many frozen 2 liters i rotate in. Ive been building these rdwc setups for about 12 years now, and i used to have a 1/2 hp chiller, but things happened and i dont have a chiller now, but i still built a small 2 site setup that was just kickicking ass until it wasnt. But this sounds perfect for my small 2 plant set up and would hold me over til i build a bigger set up needing a bigger chiller. I will tell you this. With the right sized chiller, in the past, i usullt average 1 1/2 – 2 lbs per plant when vegged for 6 – 8 weeks.

Would/could you recommend a cheap or inexpensive chiller? I’ve been seeing cheaper chillers online & I’m curious bc I’m having water temp issues

So you have to buy a chiller per bucket that only takes care of one bucket right you can’t set it up to have several buckets off of one chiller???

The best way to avoid any root problems, starts with your water temp. I have read a lot of ways to keep your water cooled from putting pop bottles with frozen water in them to buying a chiller for no less than around $300. Here is what I do. I go on Kijiji or Facebook market place and find a water used cooler ($15-$20) that you would put a 5 gal jug on top and I then take it apart so I am left with the compressor and the coil. Bend the coil over and place it in the res. If the coil doesn’t have a protective coating on it put a plastic bag over it to stop oxidation. I then bought a devise by Inkbird ($50) that monitors the water temp and turns on the compressor according to the settings you input. I set the temp for 67 deg and when the temp goes up 2 deg it turns on and cools back down to 67 deg. Air stones, when you use an air pump for the stones and push the air through a 8-12 outlet manifold the air temp will automatically rise as you are forcing the air into a smaller tubes thus heating the res up making the compressor work more. To avoid this, when you pump your water into the grow buckets place a 90 deg elbow above the waterline and let the water shoot down in the bucket braking the water surface and thus adding air bubbles to your grow bucket.

Is the condensation on the outside of the buckets a problem? I saw it puddling up a little at the bottom of the buckets inside the tent….I think. Maybe it was just a reflection.

Good seeing this. bc why mod something when you could buy something that works perfectly fine & gets the job done for a little extra money

Check out the "anvil carboy cooling system". It’s meant for regulating temperatures of beer fermenters. It’s about $100. They work great for small setups and use VERY little electricity.

How do you think an Oxygen Generator, O2 Grow Diffuser, or the other oxygen type of devices will perform?

  17. Seb K on December 24, 2022 at 5:13 am

Great find on the chiller! Any idea on power consumption? It’ll be interesting to see how it does over time. Especially with the chiller I’d be tempted to try bennies again. H2O2 might interfere with nutrients it seems. Not sure though.

Dude, I have one. I think I’ve done something wrong its been on for like an hour and it acutally got warmer. Followed your video. Is there some settings im missing or did you just hit set, and lower to 67 and then set again?

  25. Demario Townsend on December 24, 2022 at 5:29 am

What side did you put your pump on because I bought the same one trying to figure out which one such the water in and the other one out

  26. D Vance on December 24, 2022 at 5:31 am
