Things you’ll need:
– 5 gallon food grade bucket
– 5 feet of 1/4″ tubing
– Active Aqua 3.2 liter per minute single port air pump
– Drill with bits
– another bucket (or something the air pump will be able to sit on to elevate the air pump higher than water level)

Gary from PA Hydroponics kicks off the start of his instructional video series by walking you through how to build a deep water culture bubble bucket. He explains the methods to the madness and gives you tips and tricks on how to get the most from your hydroponic system.

Part 2 of the series on adding a water level indicator to your bubble bucket can be found here: https://youtu.be/KZgt6i4f2jM

Gary is the owner of both PA Hydroponics & All Good Garden Supply as well as one of the in house experts in hydroponics and indoor/outdoor gardening.

Deep water culture is the best hydroponic system for newbies. It’s the least complicated system and allows you to try hydroponics out without breaking your wallet.

Hey, here’s a question that ive never really found anywhere, whats the difference between 3,6,8,10” net pots? Is there any advantage or disadvantage from one size to the next?

  8. Brandon Guerrero on January 15, 2023 at 1:30 pm

In this setup, how would you know to add water or keep the water at the right level? how would you drain and change nutrients? how would you add water, manually? seems like this would make flushing subpar too

  9. DrKiransudama on January 15, 2023 at 1:31 pm

  19. Rick Ross on January 15, 2023 at 1:44 pm

Thank you Gary! I always have the same question. If you have a bubbler how full do you fill the bucket? With Kratky you need a space between the bottom of the bucket and the solution? What if you have a bubbler is it the same or can you put more in?

  20. D. Fras on January 15, 2023 at 1:45 pm

Hey Gary! I just ordered from ya, PA Hydroponics. I marked your store in my favorites and am liking your prices. deep-water culture (DWC) vs DFT Deep flow technique ?

  48. Nitrous Man on January 15, 2023 at 2:17 pm

A check valve would be a cheap safety measure to prevent siphoning of nutrient solution if/when the power fails.
