What’s that? The intern dropped
a test tube? Guess another one’s
going to jail for manslaughter.
It seems Alabama people are being denied their voting and economic rights. I just didn’t know those were frozen embryos "alive" for more than 18 and 21 years.
Ah yes cope and seethe
Im not sure you CAN actually do an implantation procedure. Its far to risky. Most of the implanted embrios will die.
This is a joke. I cannot believe that women still aren’t permitted to have a say over what happens to their own bodies. Laws like this are now hurting women (and their partners) that actually want children. This is ridiculous
Place your bets here, folks! How long until the Alabamba legislature criminalizes all forms of birth control up to and including *abstinence*?
I give it less than a year until all women are legally required to have piv sex until conceiving or else face jail time π

If embryos and fetuses are children, can we claim them on our tax returns?
I support the right to abortion up to give years!
It sounds like a massive tax loophole to be able to claim each frozen embryo as a dependent.
almost as if SCOTUS forgot that 1 reason Roe was created was to halt these crazy complex cases..
they now get to enjoy hearing impossible cases and the GOP gets to own the idiocy therein..
I’m waiting for a case where someone with a nonviable, life-threatening pregnancy brings criminal charges of attempted murder on her unborn "child." A crime so serious, that maybe this "person" should be charged as an adult even. In fact, an entire group of lawmakers are conspiring with this "person" to commit this murder. Sounds like a RICO case to me. π
Guess they missed the memo about religion in the First Amendment. And yea, state laws are not made by Congress…. But come tf on.
Women actually vote for these representatives… Just amazing.
Yes, but are unborn CORPORATIONS people?
If my understanding is correct, an embryo becomes a fetus at 10 weeks, and a fetus cannot USUALLY survive outside of the womb until 24 weeks. So how in the Hell is a frozen embryo considered a baby?
Of course it’s Alabama.
Ah, I love the hypocrisy of these people.
The Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice is a Dominionist who subscribes to the βSeven Mountainsββdoctrine. He needs to be removed from the bench.
Howβs that βfreedomβ treating yβall?
I recommend every tax paying citizen of Alabama claim 1 billion child tax credits on their taxes next year. Oh and an Ice Chest in your car to with a couple thousand of your children so you can drive in the carpool lane. And all those fast food companies that give away free food when a sports team does something but limits you to the humans in the car. "Yes, I’d like 1 billion big macs please". Plus since some embryos may be defective, you can now park in handicape parking places with your handicap children.
So what other fun way can we use this law? Lets see them! π
I just discovered this channel from a statement made in another channel that you will be participating in the off road games. I am pretty excited for you, sir as many people wish to be in your lucky seat. I hope that you have tons of fun. Hopefully you find it an adventure and it sticks on you. I’m subscribing.
the fact that religion is apart of that opinion should instantly nullify that persons opinion and they should be removed as a judge forever.
all they really did is tank the IVF business in Alabama, people are just going to move and all the money that those places generate will go to other states and Alabama will get poorer.
like NO thought went into this at all, they are wrong on every part of this. i don’t see the positive, even for their side. i wonder who they are going to pin this on, who are they going to kick into the void.
How long before an IVF kid in Alabama claims they should be allowed to vote at age 13 because they were frozen for 5 years before implantation? How long before they creeps start asking about other obvious age-related questions?
Ahh the hypocrisy of our legal system… "We can’t use the criminal definition of a person, that’s too out dated… let’s use this 160 year old dictionary instead!"
Certifiably insane.
Rule of Law, no no it’s a theocracy, no logic need apply in this lands courts anymore.
Alabama also leads the nation in jailing pregnant women to "protect" their fetuses.
Which now becomes unlawful imprisonment and child endangerment of said fetuses.
Can legally drink in Alabama 20 years and 3 months old…
My husband became concerned at my raucous laughter during the child support starts at conception line π
How is this not the granting of rights and protections to non-citizens? Or are states actually allowed to do that for some reason?
Are failed pregnancies considered involuntary manslaughter?
If God had done his job, IVF wouldn’t be required, amen
Can we please just not go back to the 1950s?
@LegalEagle loves reporting legal problems Trump runs into but sure is quiet in regards to Trumps legal victories right now. Biased much? I like LegalEagles content and his perspective is interesting but overall, he’s biased and is subjective in how he reports things.
can the parents now be charged with child neglect for leaving them in a freezer for years?
The GOP *does* realize that the Handmaidβs Tale wasnβt something to aspire to, right?
β¦right?
When you say ‘they might be right’, it’s important to note that simply writing a law to say something is true does not make something true. People have defined pi as 3.0, for example, yet if you thereafter stated that pi is equal to 3, you were not right, except under the law of an especially backward state cursed by the existence of brain damages idiots in the halls of the legislature.
Why draw the line at conception? Every time a single conception takes place, hundreds of thousands of children perish, losing their chance to become people. Masturbation would be murder, oral sex would be murder, anal sex, murder. safe sex, murder. Putting sperm anywhere that there is no chance those sperm cells will encounter a woman’s egg would be murder.
Even sex with someone on the pill, that’s murder to. Not just murder, *MASS* murder.
Of course these people would not want that, because then sex with a girl too young to get pregnant would be murder.
If the clinic transports my embryonic child across state lines, do they need me to sign off as a guardian?
Can I claim each of my embryonic children as a dependent on my taxes?
Do IVF clinics need to qualify as pediatric clinics as well, or offer child care services, in order to retain IVF embryonic children?
Do I need to install a child safety seat to transport embryonic children?
And finally, for our Originalists out there, are black embryonic children counted as 3/5ths of an embryonic child for purposes of a wrongful death suit?
What about self-defense doctrine? Isn’t that ingrained in US Constitution?! What a stupid decision, SCOTUS
Another case of religion being used for stupid reasons… get it out of all public office… it RARELY does anything useful
The fact that they had to pull out an ancient dictionary to get anything that supports their decision, instead of a more contemporary one that would cover the more widely accepted explanations is all kinds of stupid.
15:38: "Under Alabama’s criminal homicide statute, the term ‘criminal’ only applies to unborn children in utero." Excuse me, what?
Soon, women will be charged with murder for simply having a menstrual period without getting pregnant. Or some cockamamie thing like that…
IVF and embryo, cryo-stasis the embryo by weak AL, TX law.
Declare your 1,000 ‘children’ as Christian and dependents on State and Federal tax forms.
Wow. That’s quite the display of stupidity on the part of the Alabama Supreme Court.
I’m starting to see the merit of expanding the government to have both a science and medical branch.
This beats Brexit in "how reactionary politics can hurt you against your self-interest" category
Dumb people siting fairy talea for law is how we end up in situations like this to begin with
I feel like this case also brings up questions about in embryonic citizenship. like if a woman from a foreign country were to have an embryo fertilized in the US, does it then become an American citizen?
I personally think that between the point of conception and the point of birth a child should be considered property of the mother. this alleviates any chance for unexpecting mothers who are unaware of their pregnancy from being prosecuted for endangering a child they were unaware of. it allows for IVF and abortion, according the the will of the mother, and still provides for legal protection for situations where an unborn baby is accidentally or purposefully killed, or damaged by an external party, like you might see in a murder case or a car crash. it sounds harsh to consider a person property, but I feel like it makes more sense to think of them in a similar light to pets or livestock until they become a viable human being.
