AVOID LIGHT BURNS – 4 Different Symptoms and How to Fix & Prevent Them

AVOID LIGHT BURNS – 4 Different Symptoms and How to Fix & Prevent Them

#lightburn #ledlighting #ledgrowlight
I want to go over 4 different visible symptoms of light burn and at the end of this video Ill show you how to determine how far you should place your lights from your plants. Now light intensity is extremely important and there is perfect distance, but ultimately, I think having too much is worse than having too little because plants always grow out of it.

The first is the most obvious, the upper most leaves look shriveled and thinner and they fold inwards like a taco shell. They’ll feel dry and brittle and droop down similar to overwatered leaves. Also, not to be confused with nitrogen or sulfur deficiency, the leaves appear more yellow. Here you can see lighting at comfortable levels on the left and too much light on the right. Notice how it goes from green to yellow. 2. This is a curve ball and I know it’s not calcium issues. I only observe these spots on the higher leaves, even if the leaves look healthy otherwise. It appears like you dropped a speck of bleach onto the plant and it has absolutely no texture, Its just a discoloration and it isn’t beveled or embossed at all. At first I thought this may have been a reaction to water droplets which were accidentally spilled and caused the magnification of light so I tested the theory and this is not the case. 3. Extreme literal burn from leaves physically touching the light and burnt spots eventually start to brown. The burn will never recover but the leaves will survive and continue to grow 4. Looks similar to boron deficiency but it makes your leaves a lighter shade of green or yellow instead of brown. It looks like you scuffed the leaf and exposing a lighter shade of green under the scraped surface. The last photo is what a non light burned canopy looks like that was not subject to any forced light stress. Hope this gives guidance to growers who may think they have some sort of over watering/under watering or deficiency issues.

Love how you did light height 👌👌

  5. @jjsantora75 on April 19, 2024 at 9:08 am

but what if you have like 4 plants at different groth lenths how would you adjust light height if your light is a one piece like a 4×2 led

  6. @dragonflygenetics420 on April 19, 2024 at 9:09 am

Fuck man!! Thanks for this video!!!🏴‍☠️💯♾🎯 I tried to say this and I was told not directly but it was said in a comment that no you could run your lights all the way up. I knew this was the Villain…

Learned a lot in a short time!! Subbed!! And thank you! Burnt the crap out of our plants, but wasn’t sure,so had to check.. yep, too much light…. WAYYYYY too much. Will dial it back and give a progress report in a week

    Great content!

Perfect trimming for me gromie. I’ve been trying to figure out why I’ve got yellowing. I first thought I had been overwatered, then tried to enrich the nutes a bit. But I’ve just gone and raised my light height before this vid had even ended.

Great lesson learnt and perfect timing….top man

Funny I’m facing this issue now. Green crack auto getting too tall and touching light. Had to bend and tie her down a little bit.
Also thanks for teaching me how to use the fox farm trio!

  12. @autosflonzorganic1973 on April 19, 2024 at 9:13 am

Awesome video, by the far the best LED height content for all types of growers

  13. @CATTABIS on April 19, 2024 at 9:15 am

When you hang your light – do you measure and then dim accordingly?
I have the Photone app so I was planning on using that to measure canopy PPFD by putting the phone right on top of canopy. I have an Iphone 14 so I understand it will be a percentage off – I plan on using a nice piece of printer paper lol — the FLAGSHIP brand one from my job –then adjusting LED height and dimming it according to that.

I want the PPFD to be at around 400 (or around that number)
    during the VEG stage.

Love your videos by the way man!
    Very clear concise and articulate.
    Great stuff man

  20. @2112Dale on April 19, 2024 at 9:23 am

Thanks for the explanation, one plant is showing this and like most people, I’ve been giving it more light, water and nutrients like an idiot.

  27. @PaulDinwiddie on April 19, 2024 at 9:33 am

Excellent! I’m relatively new to indoor growing. So, this kind of information is so vital to a proper grow. Thanks!

  28. @Mr.GreenFingers_420 on April 19, 2024 at 9:33 am

Love your videos. I’m not sure how accurate they are but there is now apps for checking lighting. Keep the videos coming!!

  29. @jakobschmitt7642 on April 19, 2024 at 9:34 am

Bro the to much light tip saved me sooo much stress and confusion. Always thought I was over or underwatering but it was the light that was just to bright

  30. @williambock1821 on April 19, 2024 at 9:36 am

Water drop magnification does not happen. Don’t need to worry about it. It can be difficult to get the light level right on seedlings. The right LED levels still can cause stem stretch. Raising the light intensity to stop stretching can burn baby plants. I didn’t seem to have this issue with 400 watt MH.

  31. @andrguts52 on April 19, 2024 at 9:37 am

Could my plants be like 2-3 inches from my light close to harvest I’m new but isn’t last 2 weeks counted as close to harvest

  32. @GRockBlues on April 19, 2024 at 9:37 am

    Very kewl

Angle level and angle up analogy for light distance. Excellent!

  36. @dannymack1196 on April 19, 2024 at 9:41 am

I just upgraded my 3×3 with the TS-1000 to the FC-E3000. And I’m having a bit of trouble with wrinkling fan leaves, looking like ruffles potato chips, but I’m sure it’s because of the new much more powerful light. We’ll get there. Thanks for all the great information growmie 😤💨✌🏻😎🤘🏻

  37. @MrRaptureLTD on April 19, 2024 at 9:44 am

Dude, your complete and articulate explanations combined with the large number of examples you give have you at the top of this genre in my opinion! If you and say someone like Mr. Canuk joined forces to create a Cannabis curriculum taught through video courses on some THC University type shit you’d be unstoppable and I’d be happy to pay for a master’s degree!

  38. @yep5689 on April 19, 2024 at 9:44 am

Dealing with this right now I do believe will know after this video

  39. @bo7638 on April 19, 2024 at 9:47 am

Man I just purchased a 320 watt 6 bar led. It didn’t have any specs in the box. I bought the light on Amazon so I can’t contact the company. Can you give me any suggestions. We are in veg. Getting maybe a 8th in growth thru the night.

  40. @ericr4785 on April 19, 2024 at 9:47 am

Thanks for sacrificing that plant to show us exactly what it looks like instead of just describing it.

  41. @goochma on April 19, 2024 at 9:48 am

Got home tonight and the top canopy looked wilted just like the leaves you showed. Looks like tomorrow morning, I’ll be raising the lights and turning down the intensity. Great video man. You’re helping people a lot.

  42. @cfcstevie1888 on April 19, 2024 at 9:49 am

im currently using a 500 x 500 tent and a 600 savana bulb, ive not had this problem before until i put in a new bulb in,would i be better using a 400 or even a 500 if they are avalable or do you think its just a iffy bulb and change it

  43. @skunkgorilla2009 on April 19, 2024 at 9:50 am

sometimes running different strains gives some plants light burn but then you know you are at the maximum light level. Push it!

  44. @geraldblount4159 on April 19, 2024 at 9:52 am

    It could be potassium

  45. @debo5227 on April 19, 2024 at 9:53 am

Thanks a lot. This video helped a lot

  46. @candig2121 on April 19, 2024 at 9:53 am

I like your common sense approach to determining light distances.
