Chronic pain’s a big problem in our country, in the United States and around the world. It can lead to loss of functional work opportunities. It can lead to depression. It can, people take long acting, long term medicines that can potentially cause lethality if used in a high dose, could cause constipation, that cause itching, that cause hypogonadism. All of these problems are from the use of opioids which are derived from the opium poppy which are mainstays in the treatment of chronic pain.

The problems with chronic pain are that it’s disabling and also that the treatments for it can also come with a whole host of very difficult severe to mild side effects. But it turns out that marijuana also is effective in numerous chronic pain syndromes, has been shown in actual clinical studies, controlled trials, especially nerve-type chronic pain syndromes where you have damage to a nerve or some type of situation going on where a nerve-type pain is going out of control and going on for more than three months. And it turns out that if you smoke cannabis, in clinical studies, compared to a placebo cannabis, you can get greater than 30 to 40 percent reduction of pain in a large percentage of those subjects compared to placebo. That’s been shown over and over.

And then in the basic studies where they use animals and try to, like, develop models for pain, every model that you develop for pain in those models, cannabis or cannabinoids relieves pain. So it’s really a natural or well-established pain relieving compound. In some cases, you might be able to reduce. If you use cannabis or marijuana in your pain treatment you can reduce the risk of other treatments that may be more toxic. In some cases you can go off of all other treatments. I’ve seen patients like that.

I’ve written up some review articles like in the Clinical Journal of Pain called Cannabinergic Pain Medicine as a whole field of subfield in pain itself relies on the system in the body that’s called the cannabinoid system that actually helps to send pain signals up and down in the body and actually helps our natural pain, one of our natural pain suppressing systems. And also, these different compounds called cannabinoids in cannabis that have been shown to relieve pain. It’s itself a whole field in pain.

So in clinical journals of pain it turns out that there is actually articles about the use of cannabinoids, which are the chemicals in cannabis, as its own treatment system for pain because the system in the body that the cannabinoids interact with is itself involved in our pain pathways.

So there is a huge interest in literature in the world of pain treatment which relies on all the science that we have accumulated with how cannabis works in the body.

Marijuana has some pain deadening qualities, not overwhelming amount for me though . Honestly alcohol works better than weed , I know it is horrible for you but I am being honest here.

Lyrica works pretty well with FBMG but week too….Right now Indica works,,.. in maintainance: Sadly folks are now abusing Lyrica too which could be really bad news for us and also Epileptics…. and I think. there is notheng better for full blown attacks…. You’re right about Opioids… I was on Tramadol and Morphine before I discovered lyrica… Pure side affects but the pain was always there… ! lyric pill at 300g was the first think to actually work for me…. Right drug for Fibromyalgia just now but we need newer and better alternatives,,,,, Weed on the other hand is going in the right direction for once….

Add 1 more to the list of cannabis pain control success stories. Our wonderful Federal Government decided to "help" in the "opioid crisis", by making things WORSE! But cannabis is nearly 100% effective in treating my chronic pain AND I cut the government, big pharma & medical industry OUT of the picture. I self medicate to the level of my pain at any time necessary WITHOUT permission from a doctor, pharmacist, drug company or government overlord!

I DO NOT PERSONALLY BELIEVE THAT MARIJUANA IS A PAIN RELIEVER AT ALL! I BELIEVE THIS IS A LIE! PEOPLE WILL LIE , STEAL AND DECEIVE OTHERS TO MAKE MONEY. MARIJUANA IS BIG BUSINESS JUST LIKE THE DRUG COMPANIES. CAN PEOPLE HANDLE THE REAL TRUTH?

  14. KerayZ on May 2, 2022 at 10:11 pm

I thought marijuana was just for getting high, but I used it after surgery some months ago, and it really helped my pain and nausea. Pills can cause permanent damage, I have nerve damage from pills. Marijuana still has a bad stigma for some reason, but it’s more effective than pills, and it’s made by God, not in a lab.

I suffered so long with chronic pain that I almost died of heart failure at 35 years old. Long story but I had suffered so badly for so long that my body was simply shutting down and giving up. My heart couldn’t take it any more

Unfortunately Marijuana makes me paranoid and does nothing for pain. I wish it did!

  31. Erin Becker on May 2, 2022 at 10:27 pm

for people like me, in severe and extreme chronic pain, marijuana does not work. I have tried it. it gives me a nice nap, but to actually take away pain, no. and I can’t work with the youth in my community stoned. my other medicines don’t give a high feeling or foggy brain. these new laws are cruel. let the doctors treat their patients. we don’t all come from one mold.

after writing recommendations Florida now says marijuana cannot treat pain.
Florida’s pain medicine information is all false and they’ve pulled our recommendations so we must now go and either tolerate pain or get back to opioids etc someone please help us here in Florida

CBD oil capsules are the bomb. Not dopey, remarkable for pain. Take a capsule when pain arrives, feel better soon. I have been a pain patient for 12 years, and these things seem really good. Way better and safer than all the narcotics, not that narcos aren’t effective for pain. Problems will arise from narcs, sooner or later………Weed products work! God Bless………

  45. Ronald Bowman on May 2, 2022 at 10:42 pm

Have gout, one of the most most painful of all arthritis. Have had such disease since 1988. Doctors could only offer different meds that really did nothing for taking care of the problem. I have a brother who has severe back pain…cage in back. He has smoked marijuana on a consistent basis for pain management. I didn’t want to smoke marijuana, and did not believe that it could solve my problem as far as gout was concerned. Well yesterday I finally told him to let me smoke some weed. I’m happy to say within a couple of minutes I was pain free. So now I’m a believer in the smoking of marijuana for pain management. THANK YOU LORD, for putting this wonderful plant here. For those of us who really need it.

~Ummm…yeah, chronic pain patients are goin2text some ass over thr internet for their meds….are you kiddin me? Folks like you are on of the reasons it’s so hard in this country to get adequate pain relief!. To all the losers trying to make a buck of pain sufferers, you deserve to be locked up. Real pain patients go to legitimate Drs…don’t mind peeing in a cup and givin blood samples every 3 months. Anyone that’d buy from those idiots need to be sitting in jail right along with em. Pathetic

  48. Kevin Moore on May 2, 2022 at 10:47 pm

After neurosurgeries, and other procedures for brain cancer around 2011, and complications, I was given opioids to help treat pain, and, while they work, they cause a plethora of complications, which were incredibly undesirable. I ended up getting a card, and later, a paper(I still have the card), that allows me to purchase this medication. After several years of use since I was discharged, I have only good things to say about the MEDICAL use of this as a medication to treat pain. Sativa contains more thc, and helps a patient deal with their pain by making them feel good, since it works on the brain, and indica contains more cbd, which gives a more body “high” that helps me get to sleep, since it works more on the nerves in the body. I support the use of this as a medicine. And not really for recreational purposes.

My doctor sucks, planning on moving away from family, what friends I have left, and my 13 y.o. daughter because of how bad the medical cabal is. Find another doctor… lol. That’s "doctor shopping". They don’t even understand the desire to prefer dying over living with pain, it is evil how bad "big medicine" has become.

  50. mivanc on May 2, 2022 at 10:49 pm

Doesn’t work for me. Tried it recently (the synthetic version, Sativex)

Sadly medical marijuana in Canada is not covered by insurance and licenced growers charge an arm and a leg for it, especially the more medical strains.
