Defoliate your plants like a Pro | How to Grow Indoors with Smokey Okies Cannabis
Professional Grow Tech explains the process of defoliating plants to increase light penetration for better yields, and to increase air flow for fewer problems.
Kyle is a grow tech as Smokey Okies Cannabis and he is responsible for making sure these plants are properly pruned.
Kyle has two ways of defoliating:
First, he “lollipops” the plants by completely removing all plant material on the lower half of the plant. That includes branches with bud sites, as well as fan leaves. This is not so much pruning as it is complete removal of all foliage.
Next, he moves to the upper half which is the focus of our growth cycle. This top half with produce the fat colas and flowers we want.
On the top half, Kyle performs a heavy defoliation by removing all excess fan leaf material. The plants are now bare naked. But it is okay, they will recover and they will benefit from increased lights penetration, and increased airflow.
This type of heavy defoliation is performed twice during the flowering stage. Usually at teh end of Week 2 or beginning of Week 3. And again at the end of Week 4 or beginning of Week 5.

Make no mistake there’s drawbacks to everything in the universe. This does improve yields but it lowers quality by removing those solar panels leaves which are responsible for converting light into sugar using CO2 and water.

Question, Some say defoliate 2-3 weeks into flower. Now is that 2-3 weeks from flipping, or 2-3 weeks out of pre flower? (2 weeks after the flip start counting weeks)?

i never defoliate more than 2 leaves in a day, stresses out the plant too much and can hermie or straight turn into males.
This episode wasn’t really nothing special at all. Just talking like all the other channels, no channel sets themselves apart from other channels, they are all the same, just talk, talk, talk, talk and talk. When is less talking and showing (doing) going to take precedent. Just show and explain while you do it. Actually Kyle Kush man was the only person to show while talking. U didn’t do anything besides talk. This is why I don’t subscribe to channels anymore. Nobody does anything besides talk.
