DIY Hydroponics | Aeroponics Garden Tower Build | Part 2 – [4 Tower Build]

DIY Hydroponics | Aeroponics Garden Tower Build | Part 2 – [4 Tower Build]

This is a follow-up video of a previous DIY hydroponics tower build. This is my second attempt at a more efficient and more durable build based on lessons I learned from the first build. I also took it a step further and built a 4-Tower System. It’s still not perfect, but again I learned a lot and will make a 3rd attempt at a single tower build based on what I learned during this attempt.

In this video, I also provide a brief (very brief) update on the plants from the first build.

I would have used the center of the tower to install a 5th growing tower instead of having just 4 of them. You could run the plumbing inside of the center tower or outside of it. I would also build a manifold using various valves to control the flow of the wall and if I only wanted to use 1-2 grow towers I can simply close the valve to the ones that I don’t want to use off and leave the others open. Also the addition’s of a timer to allow for the pump to not run continuously but rather have it run 20 minutes per hour every hour or less, more as needed. Adding plant grow lights, and a reflective backboard so that you can adjust the lighting level would help keep the plants grow bigger and faster. I have been thinking about using a simple drip irrigation system to keep the water supply moving but keeping it from using a lot of additional electricity. Adding a larger reservoir with a circulation pump so that you can mix in fertilizer or compost “Tea” to make the water carry more nutrients to the plants and encourage faster growing larger fruits and vegetables. I am going to build a 9 tower system to have a bigger garden in my kitchen hallway on a movable platform that is on wheels. So that we can turn it in the windows and move it to clean under it. I am also looking at a solar powered system that is going to be fully self contained so that the plant to utility costs will be next to Zero, minus the cost of the original building supplies and equipment for the solar system. When my friend and I have a little more time together we will get it all built and have all of the plants and vegetables, fruit we can use all winter into next spring.

I’m trying to find some food grade pipes for a similar build… they are expensive.

You literally turned into your own dad once you removed the cap 🧢 in the end😅😅

Great video i like the newer version more stable and being a plumber i know what you doing.great!!!

  7. HomeGrown HOPE on October 4, 2023 at 10:30 pm

Super awesome design. I feel like I know where you’re going with the single tower. The rings are a really great addition to the tower. On to part 3!

Any concerns about not using food grade pvc or upvc or rated nsf-51 pvc?

  13. PoliticoSphere: Unveiling Hidden Agendas on October 4, 2023 at 10:39 pm

May I know if rain would be an issue with this design ? I am thinking of o we flossing the plants in case of heavy rain …. Thanks in advance.

  14. Daren Sullivan on October 4, 2023 at 10:39 pm

Awesome Chris…I’ve been wanting to build one of these and your design is very impressive ..thanks

  15. Der Nicolas on October 4, 2023 at 10:39 pm

wearing gloves near rotating machines is the exact opposite of safety. Never ever do that.

  16. Edina Hodos on October 4, 2023 at 10:41 pm

I made something similar. What I learned is that if you put caster wheels, the tower can be rotated for optimum sunlight.

❤ you are a old soul so young but so mature and awesome. i, am a elder and even i am going to follow your lead on this one because i was about to spend $400 or more dollars to purchase single grow tent, and hydrphonics system about four and different grow bags not now gratitude!

    U are Awesome bro!!!❤❤

  19. Stefan hansel on October 4, 2023 at 10:42 pm

All amzing ideas, but i hope you ALL know, that normal PVC is not rated for food production?! The PVC constantly releases unhealthy substances from the production process as well as plasticizer.

  20. Niyir Ete on October 4, 2023 at 10:44 pm

  24. Rebecca Hutcheson on October 4, 2023 at 10:51 pm

Holy shit I’ve never wanted to send money to anybody and I’m thinking does this guy have a Patreon? I just about put out $500 on a system and see and I could actually build it myself and build more towers for even less money. Wow, dude you have just blown me away.💪💖

  25. jingsu on October 4, 2023 at 10:52 pm

Very nice 👍, thank you brother dear❤ systemized idea and initiative very helpful for our basic needs. GOD Bless you 💕 and your fam*ly dears 🙏❤️🕊️

  29. tdebo64 on October 4, 2023 at 10:53 pm

Just curious does the pipe reservoir hold enough water to pump to all 4 towers?

  30. Alistair Verdin on October 4, 2023 at 10:54 pm

Do y9u keep the pump and water running constantly?

  31. Steven Wilber on October 4, 2023 at 10:56 pm

You pvc exploded because you used thin wall instead of the heavier wall tube

  32. Dillz Kanahele on October 4, 2023 at 10:57 pm

    Great video

  33. Richard Wilson on October 4, 2023 at 10:57 pm

Update: The video autoplayed to part 2, where you have an updated watering system, while my comment is in response to part 1 of this series. I’m still curious if my idea is an improvement though. **

Another idea is to use spray emitters all around and along the length of the tube. In this system, only the roots touching the grow medium are getting proper watering, and whatever root sections are lucky enough to catch dripping water. There are likely big sections of roots on every plant that are water-starved.

Whereas, spray emitters would reach every nook and cranny by misting the whole tube at once from multiple angles. I think you’d see faster growth and overall better production.

Downside – with organic hydroponics, it’s common for clogging to occur, especially with the small holes of a spray emitter. But they’re very cheap and could be easily swapped out. They screw into any 1/4 inch hole i believe so installing is a breeze. You could simply drill holes into that internal watering line and screw emitters in, capping off the top. Done.

Very nicely made video! Looks like I have my next project

  35. Revti Dhurve on October 4, 2023 at 10:58 pm

    how to buy it

  36. Amal Khalid on October 4, 2023 at 11:01 pm

    Great work there.
But I can’t help but to notice that your method and design is eerily similar with Petani Kota87 design in youtube.
    Is it pure coincidence?

  37. Ian Home on October 4, 2023 at 11:05 pm

Here’s a secret. .. print the tree components using PETG, 150mm high, 3 holes, the baskets fit perfectly 🤔 friction fit, no need for glue ..

  38. Talwar ji on October 4, 2023 at 11:08 pm

    Nice project ❤🎉

    Incredible design

  41. TAZ43jt Gaming on October 4, 2023 at 11:08 pm

is that schedule 20 or 40 pipe?

  42. FDΩ Don on October 4, 2023 at 11:09 pm

it doesn’t look like there will be enough water-root contact, an also there seems to be too little space for the roots to grow. i’d be surprised if it worked. my guess is no culture have been actually grown on it.

  43. Hudson Wise on October 4, 2023 at 11:10 pm

This is super cool and I have scrolled threw lots of comments etc and cannot find the build list! Can you or anyone point me in the right direction?

Hi Chris – may i ask what repeater timer unit you use for the power supply and cut off ?

  48. charles alexander on October 4, 2023 at 11:18 pm

You have earned my respect for life. Thank you for being very generous with your ideas. I am very grateful.

  49. Casy Leer on October 4, 2023 at 11:19 pm

Not even a penny for the man who invented the grow towers. Me. I created that idea before 2018.
