Don't Add CalMag to Your Cannabis Plants Unless You Know About This…

Home Grown Made Easy at https://www.realgrowers.com/

Here’s how to tell if the problem is really a calcium or magnesium deficiency. And what you need to know about how calcium and magnesium work together at your root zone. If you don’t know about this, you’re wasting money and likely hurting your plants.

Can you add Calmag to Recharge?

  2. @wyregrasser7540 on May 25, 2024 at 11:10 am

Thanks… great job. I have been growing for a while now, both hydro and soil. I still battle with Cal/Mag issues. Mag more than Cal. Along with nitrogen these elements also seem to vary significantly between different cultivars. I enjoy variety, rarely run same twice. I guess not being able to get super dialed in is the price I have to pay. Part of the fun and still pulling some fairly dope bud. Thanks for the info. 👴

Grow dots required 100% attention to magnesium levels for me its still better then havimg to mix a ton of nutes though just keep that magnesium in check and the dots will do your ladies right 👍🏼

Is grow dots organic or no

  5. @marstrinity9557 on May 25, 2024 at 11:13 am

Every time I had a cal mag deficiency I used molasses ( 1/2 tsp molasses to 1 litre of water ) .
    Works every time.
I have never bought "cal mag" from a gardening store ever .

I had to by a Ro system because my tap water is 💩. I use 5 mL of Calimag with iron with every watering and feeding.

Hi the best ferts are made by advanced nutrients at least in my opinion just saying lol

  11. @ChrisB... on May 25, 2024 at 11:23 am

Running coco drip with RO water, I used to measure my cal mag but lately have just been adding a random glug from the bottle when I mix nutes in my 20 gallon bucket. Never had a hint of a cal mag problem, but maybe that’s because my nutes (CNS 17) also have cal mag. My point, don’t worry about it too much, but make sure there is at least some cal mag available at all times and you’re good to go.

BTW, I also stopped using PH up with amazing results, I just start at 6.2 and let the PH fall until I mix up the next batch of nutes, sometimes it falls to ~5.0 which the data says is way too acidic, but it works and the plants love it.

    More like 3:1 Ca:Mg I aim for 3:1. 130mg/L Ca and around 40mg/L Mg. I don’t use CalMag. It’s rarely required.

  14. @rightpassage on May 25, 2024 at 11:26 am

Is grow dots ok for Coco, I’m guessing the blue bag? Using air pots.

  15. @johnkehoe8368 on May 25, 2024 at 11:30 am

are the grow dots also good for auto’s or do they feed to long?

  16. @henriks5008 on May 25, 2024 at 11:33 am

I use Cal/Mag in my RDWC but never when I grew in soilless.

Tap water here is really clean pH 7,5 and 0.0 e.c
I use Tri part from terra aquatica (soft water) which says not to us Cal/Mag since the tri part contains more than enough as it is. So on my first grow I did not use it for the first weeks of veg, but i experienced yellowing and brown spots on the lower leaves after some time. I bought some cal/mag adda to a rate of 1ml pr 1 liter. Now they look like a million bucks. Im I using the tri part series wrong, or why do I need Cal/Mag when the nutes I use should have enough??

  17. @user-ti2pz1px1x on May 25, 2024 at 11:33 am

Coco requires a little calmag every feeding, regardless if your nutrients have it or not. Why not! Why wait for it to become too late.😉

  18. @tonyoliva8488 on May 25, 2024 at 11:34 am

There’s nothing inherently wrong with what you’re saying, but there’s so much we left out. Not everyone grows the same. There are good, better, and best solutions based upon your medium that are directly related to the nutrient delivery system the grower is using. Just to be responsible, we should explore the best practices for application. Sure, Epson salt is great when used with the correct considerations. Otherwise, just like the hydroponic companies, we can assume not everyone will apply nutrients in the correct ratios. People should know that foliar feeding certain elements at certain times will be better than risking throwing off soil balance by using certain products. See what I’m saying here?

Can i plant my seed in the grow dots?

  25. @dfurry100 on May 25, 2024 at 11:42 am

LED’s, Coco Coir, and hungry cultivars have combined to increase calmag demand. If you have these conditions 1> confirm your coco is properly buffered 2> use nutes formulated for coco 3> the calcium and magnesium in your tap water may help but it needs to be tested before use.

If those three recommendations don’t correct the calmag deficiency and you haven’t made significant changes to the env like supplementing CO2 or radical temp changes then Epsom salts, or calmag, are probably needed. jus’sayin’.

  27. @edmclendon9399 on May 25, 2024 at 11:43 am

I reuse my potting soil and add cal-mag, humic acid, molasses, kelp extract, Alaska fish fertilizer. good stuff

  28. @M.Taterra on May 25, 2024 at 11:45 am

Take this from someone who has been involved in drug development for ion channel modulators: To make things a little clearer. The big problem with both is not that they are competing for the same negatively charged ions in the soil when it comes to absorption, because the neutral salt itself cannot be taken up. The problem is that most ion channels (which facilitate the uptake of these ions) are often not perfectly selective, since the selectivity filter and activation gate often allow multiple ions to pass through the same pore. The problem is that only both ions compete for the same channel. In return, the uptake is limited. It’s exactly the same mechanism for many channels in all living organisms. This is the same problem you would have as a human if you took magnesium and calcium supplements at the same time.

  29. @robertchiarizia9463 on May 25, 2024 at 11:45 am

I add alot of oyster shell flower to my soil every time I amend it. It never burns the plants, and always allows proper nitrogen uptake. Leaves are all rich green, not yellowish, or too dark of green. If I see tips burning, I may add some liquid Cal Mag once a week during flowering. Only if the tips are burning though.

  36. @vintagemotoseattle on May 25, 2024 at 11:52 am

@scotty real can I ask you a question, if you’re running organic but also using cal/mag liquid with mollases in flower….. in the last 2 weeks of my photos, I am going to flush, when flushing should you also stop and cal mag too.

I’ve found that most photos need a decent amount of cal mag. 10mg per gal for me.

  37. @thedude-wb5vx on May 25, 2024 at 11:52 am

Gypsum for calcium. Epsom salt for msgnesium. The led lights cause them to burn through magnesium. So once they go to flower i sdd 1tbsp epsom every 2 weeks. The gypsum i add 1 tbsp every otger week from the getgo. Gypsum is slso a soil conditioner, helps it not become one big chunk after topdressing gaia green. Adding these ive gotten better results for sure and i no longer use a synthetic csl mag just all organic everything

  43. @JW-lq9ow on May 25, 2024 at 12:01 pm

Just harvested 6 plants .all 5 different cultivars. I did 100% living soil all the best stuff that’s available online and in my area. With top dress with a healthy organic mixture. I used Crystal geyser spring water for entire grow. Never PhD never added anything else everything was perfectly healthy all the normal fading on the purple strains. 4 x 4 put off over a pound. No Cal mag used. All 10 gallon fabric pots.

  44. @sugargraham6868 on May 25, 2024 at 12:01 pm

Do i need to use silca blast with my grow dots Scotty

  45. @mixdup0016 on May 25, 2024 at 12:02 pm

It’s all about your water calcium and magnesium are what makes water hard if you already have hard water you do not need it unless you’re using coco then it’s different because the coco buffers the cal mag even with hard water so you add it
