Fantastic video, I have some minor additions, electrical above the waist including air pumps to reduce back flow issues and keep power from possible water sources that are always kept below the waist. I have been doing dwc for a good long time, I mean I have been doing dwc since the day it was legalized… yeah. and I have found that a largish pump with a simple weight not an air stone works best, large course bubbles are just as good as micro / nano bubbles for oxygenation, reduces the pump pressures/ heat on pump along with wear and tear plus the air stones do clog in my experience. One day I had a large airstone in a 5 gallon bucket and with my system either bacteria, minerals or sugars would clog the airstone, I tried many things until one day i tried a drill lol and put a hole in the end. Boom an expensive weight, and worked like a charm.

For water level I personally use a simple 5 gallon bucket, hydroton and a plastic net, simple, I use my hand to know the height so when the water hits the tips of my fingers its full, I then test ppm and add nutes directly to the bucket and in a few min I will adjust ph. Top up twice a day, morning and night later in flower. I use a simple pump to pull the water out of the bucket for water changes, I found it best not to try and lift the plant and place it in a new bucket. I keep the buckets on the concrete floor of the basement to reduce temperature, put a foam down in the winter and keep an eye on temp. I use beneficial bacteria tho to reduce build up of non beneficial bacteria and change water weekly. My tap water is 150 ppm and were at the headwaters of the river so I use tap water, works fine. Keep in mind that if you do not top up twice a day or use a top up reservoir system the nutes will become concentrated ish and may even have issues with nutrient lockout so this in my opinion is a growing method for the experienced and attentive grower but also forgiving enough for the new grower ish. Downfall is you will never have a day off every again. worth it. Thanks for the great videos Lex.

How do you maintain a stable ph level? As whenever I adjust mine for watering I aerate my water and adjust to say 6.3. Within 24 hours the water increases in alkalinity to above 8. So in a dwc system it would be off within a day, yet it needs to stay even lower than soil. Furthermore wouldn’t it need to be constantly adjusted?

Love this video , the reason I just started a dwc grow myself, and recently started a YouTube channel! I’m doing my grow diary on my drip system at the moment, check it out man? I’m working on my subscribers, I’m aiming for 1000 to do a giveaway !

  13. ashiha on January 6, 2023 at 8:54 am

Does using methodology to cool the water, like with a water chiller, reduce the need for air temperature control? For example, is 35C air temp too hot if the water is being chilled to 18C?

    Awesome overall DWC info. 🤙🏽

How would a plant in a small pot of soil with the roots coming out of the bottom in this system work? Thank you for your time💚

  19. Leon Egferon on January 6, 2023 at 9:01 am

maybe a nice idea for a themed show: introduction to most effective ways of creating edibles.
like what oil or butter or else is best/most effective to intake thc to make edibles? I know that coconut oil absorbs/takes in the thc simpler than olive oil or even butter, but I hate the taste of coconut.
what ways or better what ingredients take in thc most effective and also keeping taste in mind

  23. Ceri Baldwin on January 6, 2023 at 9:07 am

If there’s a deficiency would you have to change the water or can you just add to reservoir?

  24. bit coin on January 6, 2023 at 9:09 am

my water comes out of tap at 7.5 pH , in a 5 gallon bucket DWC with water pump and air stone . I add about 8 drops of bleach per gallon, per week for sterile buckets and no fertilizer yet (temp always 18C). After i pH the water to about 5.5 to 5.8 less then 24 hours later the pH rises to 6.6 to 7, every day i reset the pH back to 5.8 (1 week) , how can i get the water pH to stablize for longer periods?

  25. Pon on January 6, 2023 at 9:12 am

Good video! also one thing to consider which is very important to some, is sterile or bacteria filled reservoir, where sterile is the easiest way to go, using hydrogen peroxide or calcium hypoclorite etc.

  29. shadow 08 on January 6, 2023 at 9:14 am

Starting to think I’d like to try my hand/green thumb in a DWC system in the near future! Gotta say I didnt realize how many styles there are out there till this video. Up until recently, its been strictly outdoor grows throughout the years. I’ve realized how indoors is a whole new animal an gained much respect for all the fellow growers out there pushing through grow after grow!!… lol. But this is a Avenue I’ve yet to explore. An one that’s definitely required for making that journey to becoming a master grower lol. So As always Appreciate the accurate knowledge an touching on the subject for us out there lex.

DWC is the best way to hydro.

  34. ChemicalChrisOttawa on January 6, 2023 at 9:17 am

Any tips on getting ALL the water out during regular flushing in RDWC?
There’s often up to a gallon (ok maybe 2L sometimes) in each bucket (below the connections), so that can be easily a third to a half the system capacity.
    Thoughts?

    Good info as always thanks

  37. Mark Nadams on January 6, 2023 at 9:21 am

I helped a friend with his DWC system. Keeping the water temp down was the toughest part for us. Rotating 2 liter soda bottles of ice every couple of days was our only option at his place.

  38. Rows Of Green on January 6, 2023 at 9:21 am

    Good video lex.

  39. ivana jizahnyu on January 6, 2023 at 9:21 am

Ive thought about doing this with solar pumps outdoors. The pumps store enough energy to run overnight but idk what id do on really cloudy or rainy days. Any thoughts? Bad idea altogether?

  40. Christopher Cullen on January 6, 2023 at 9:22 am

Good video Gromie… Getting ready to finally bite the hydro bullet after years of soil. Pretty sure I’ll dabble with dwc to get the feet wet…

  41. Jared Houtman on January 6, 2023 at 9:25 am

Awesome video! Lots of quality information to support what I’ve heard originally.
I’m a first time grower doing dwc with auto flowers in a 8x4x8 tent. Wish me luck! 🤞🤞

If ur in dwc u can also get a portable ac to keep the water temperature down just keep ac temp at 70 or below

  44. mathew wright on January 6, 2023 at 9:29 am

Hey lex good video can you do a part two on this that covers ppm, feeding, stuff like that a little more in depth please…

In any way you used the dwc it works beautifully and thanks for all the vids they help a lot my brother keep it up 💪💪💪👏👏👏

  49. HEXA on January 6, 2023 at 9:35 am

Love your videos man. After many years of cultivation I’ll try it out with hydroponics. Here in Buenos Aires is not common at all and I will have to be pretty much on my own so this material is great.
