Easy Hydroponic Garden DIY Tutorial using 5 Gallon Buckets

Hey everyone! After shopping for hydroponic system kits I decided it would be cheaper and easier to build my own. Hopefully this will help if you are looking to build your own hydroponic system. This cost me $160 ($40/unit) for all of the parts and each additional unit will lower the overall cost per unit.

Light entering through the opaque bucket will cause algae to grow, paint them black. Otherwise nice informative video👍🏻

What kind of water are u using

Please use black, food grade buckets. The black will prevent algae from growing and food grade buckets do not have BPA (which is a toxin) that will leach into the water in the buckets over a short period of time. Thank you and good growing!

These are not food grade. Buy the white buckets.

How do you plan on draining this setup? How far do you have to fill the buckets? How do you planning on dealing with your future algae problem?

I got a hydroponic growing system for mother’s day and have developed a mild obsession already. I have everything but the clay balls to set up a mini system with a giant coffee container, just some basil to start. If I have any success I’ll step it up to this size.
