I decided to make a video on dealing with root rot. We often deal with a biofilm buildup as well as some brown stuff on our roots. It can be caused by several things, like low oxygen, high water temperature, dirty reservoir, nutrients. I’ll talk about getting rid of root rot in a DWC Hydro (Deep Water Culture Hydroponics) setup and preventing it from returning.

So nice that there’s a cool channel for DWC growers! So burned out with the boatload of living soil channels.
*Sodium Benzoate seems to prevent algae according to a chilled tech video I saw years ago.
    Thank you.

I don’t grow hydro but I do support the homies! Hope all is well Fam!

I use simple green on the root rot, also spray it into the hydroton. Have yet to lose a plant, since using it.

  4. Smash Dab on February 10, 2023 at 8:07 pm

1 time I had it and it was on a experiment plant

  5. PDaddy Warbux on February 10, 2023 at 8:08 pm

My room was average temps of 79 in an ebb system . Had to run a water chiller set at 65 degrees and no more rot

  6. Torrence Krepps on February 10, 2023 at 8:09 pm

I truly believe in peroxide I maybe should have add water to it but 2 of my outdoor plants ended up getting root rot so poor in straight peroxide on both of them straighten them out

  7. Liam Breen on February 10, 2023 at 8:11 pm

Gonna try a ‘cooling water mattress’ on tent floor to try keep water temp Down and low root rot, half price of water cooler and easier set up

  8. Stephone Atkins on February 10, 2023 at 8:11 pm

So hey bro I see you used the vivosun water pump (the submerged 1000 gal per hour one) on your pots instead of the stones. Do you just sit this at the bottom of the 5 gallon in replace of an air stone and aquarium air pump? Really need to know bc I feel that would be best but if an overkill I’d just do the big 4in air stones with regular aquarium pumps. Thanks I appreciate what you do!

  9. Gerald Blount on February 10, 2023 at 8:12 pm

water temperature if you can keep your water temperature 67 or 65 you got it going on over 68 70 root rot

  10. Natures Healing on February 10, 2023 at 8:16 pm

I wish I had a water chiller, they’re expensive to run electricity wise to. I use frozen water bottles. My bottles are up against the roots sometimes, I’ve had no issues. Change em out twice a day. Abt to upgrade to them 2 liter jawns tho lol maybe I’d only have to do it once lol

  11. reef onbux on February 10, 2023 at 8:19 pm

I don’t know if you’ve heard of Southern ag garden friendly fungicide. Super concentrated but it works like none other.

  12. Ped Clarke on February 10, 2023 at 8:19 pm

13:20 some pathogenic fungi are anaerobic, they compete better in low oxygen environments. Aerobic species die off without oxygen.

I cant get hydroguard where i live. Great white shark works for me, meant to help root growth and stuff too not just protect against root rot.

I have a question about nutrients. If I have 10-10-10 and let’s say a 12-18-25, and do an EC test with the result being at 1.2. Are the results the same, or is one stronger in reality? I am getting lost in the trees with all this stuff as I try to figure out what is destroying my plants after the cotyledon leaves drop.

  18. The Gobcast on February 10, 2023 at 8:29 pm

I dont even measure peroxide I just spray it into the water. is dissipates into oxygen within 24 hours anyway.

  19. Gerald Blount on February 10, 2023 at 8:30 pm

I have changed my water clean my roots turn them white again two days later they’re slimy with root rot again if your water temperature is not right I don’t care what you do you’re going to get root rot believe me I got 10 years of this and I got so fed up with growing dwc that I will never go back because I cannot afford a chiller for every bucket

  20. Jack Frost on February 10, 2023 at 8:31 pm

Very informative, god bless and keep up the good work brother 🙏🙏🙌🙌😎

  21. 73splitbumper on February 10, 2023 at 8:31 pm

RO water with hydrogen peroxide works for me for keeping root rot away.

  22. sean brooks on February 10, 2023 at 8:32 pm

Dusa my friend,,,,just a quick one,,,as I think I had a scammer trying to hit me up,,,,does MR Cannucks sell seeds,,,,,and got his own strains,,,,has I had someone on instagram hitting me up,,,,saying they him,,,,and sent me seed menu,,,,,but I not seen MR canucks breeding how about you,,,,,just trying to be safe,,,, as theres that many scammers about now adays

  23. DeathMetal Gardens on February 10, 2023 at 8:32 pm

Microbial mass is magic in a bottle as well but expensive.
    Hygrozyme a cheaper alternative enzyme.
Use either with UC roots to keep a sterile res.
I’m going through the motions right now in Canada. Can’t get hydroguard for reasonable price.

I’m going to help you switch 2 Coco core and Pelite no more root rot

  28. Brandon Thornton on February 10, 2023 at 8:39 pm

Voodoo juice saved me from a bad case of rot. I struggled with water temp and air injection. Good air stones, water chiller and voodoo juice made a huge difference. No cheap pumps either. UC roots didn’t work for me but I had a big rot problem

  29. lim jahey on February 10, 2023 at 8:40 pm

If you’re dealing with hot water in the reservoir a chiller is the only way to go. I’ve just been through the dilemma and took the water from 28°c to 20° easily in all the drums just running off the dripper. Bit pricey but had no other option.

  30. jarretpaul on February 10, 2023 at 8:41 pm

Dude, I love the confidence you instill in me. I have not been checking temperature of my water and I’m sure I’ve been going too cold (straight from the tap, to tent). I really will start alternating buckets but filling it up the day before I use it. Then its at least at room temp from my basement which I am going to start to keeping cooler from now on as well, lol.

  31. Christopher Bifulco on February 10, 2023 at 8:41 pm

I was using hydroguard but recently switched to Orca on my last two runs. Hydroguard works pretty well but the Orca is a mix of liquid mycorrhizae with beneficial bacteria. It is highly concentrated and only use a half milliliter per gallon of water. I also have a RDWC system with a .25 hp water chiller that I keep programmed at 68*f. I’ve seen Better results with the Orca and I highly recommend that you give it a try.

  33. Gerald Blount on February 10, 2023 at 8:44 pm

Somebody got to come up with a decent chiller for buckets like each bucket have its own little chiller if a person can come up with an idea like that you’ll make tons of money but there’s no way around it water temperature is the main concern in dwc especially if you have buckets and a reservoir that flows with air stones that create friction that creates Heat

  34. Elizabeth R on February 10, 2023 at 8:45 pm

I’m trying both Kratky and DWC to grow strawberries, peppers and greens. Your channel is very informative! Thank you for sharing❤

  35. M. B. on February 10, 2023 at 8:47 pm

Yo man try Purolyt there will be no root rot anymore plus u can spray the plants which has the effect that resistance against mold and pests +u can bloom at higher Rh so your plant will be more productive

  36. Sin Eater on February 10, 2023 at 8:47 pm

Yes peroxide will get rid of RR, I use HTH as cheap alternative to hydrogaurd to prevent RR in DWC….

  37. General Awareness on February 10, 2023 at 8:47 pm

First time trying Kratky, and DWC, since my first year having a complete loss in soil/potting mix. I went to Hydro and everything ended up going well for a few days then root rot and loss. I can’t win for losing.

  38. Gerald Blount on February 10, 2023 at 8:48 pm

To stop root rot is to get a chiller end of story you might get away with it one grow but you ain’t going to get away with it I don’t care what you do you got to keep the water temperature at a certain temperature or you’re going to get root rot you might get away with it this girl but next grow you might not I did it for 9 years and I had more root rot than anything it worked out good some years with no chiller

  39. Brendon Thompson on February 10, 2023 at 8:48 pm

You can put your air pump inside a floor vent with AC running. It will pump cold air into your nutrient solution. Low budget water chiller

  45. Natures Healing on February 10, 2023 at 8:54 pm

I heard abt ppl trimming their roots. I’ve always got sketch on it because I feel like it would stress it out to much I get worried it’d be like cutting a main artory ya know

  46. Gerald Blount on February 10, 2023 at 8:54 pm

You should have one bucket to change over already clean so if you have five buckets that means you need 10 buckets already clean five then after you change if you clean that five for the next time you change the water

  47. Tory on February 10, 2023 at 8:56 pm

    👍

  48. Marcial Villegas on February 10, 2023 at 8:58 pm
