EAC is nothing more than a security window sticker. It’s useless in catching and banning cheaters. Disappointing, will now have to consider purchasing games that feature this useless crap.

I can see not supporting Linux due to lack of market share. But to actively give the middle finger to an entire community is BS. I main Ubuntu at home as a gamer. I switched from Win 10 to stop the spying. I turned off spy settings in win then updates revert back to full spy mode. And they spy a lot. All one needs to do is run Wireshark on a win 10 system to see this..

I wonder if epic uses windows server to host their websites?

  5. Slugcat on October 14, 2022 at 5:22 am

I was already boycoyting them since the rocket league incident. But this seems like a new low, even for them.

Like I thought EA was bad, but you know what? The vast majority of EA’s games that are Windows-only work 100 percent on Linux through Wine/Proton, and at least THEY just let us buy and play the damn games. And not just single-player games, their big multiplayer games work on Linux too. Shit, all of the big ones work. Battlefield 1, 4 and V, Titanfall 2 (my favorite), Star Wars Battlefront II AND Jedi – Fallen Order, Dead Cells (there’s a linux native version on steam but the Windows version on Origin works too), Anthem, the list goes on. Honestly the two AAA publishers holding Linux back from being able to run 90 percent of Windows games are Epic and Ubisoft.

  7. sebastian söderqvist on October 14, 2022 at 5:26 am

Well in regards to Sweeny’s comparison I’ve heard people say that "On windows you are merely a customer but on Linux you are considered a citizen, with the right’s and duties (or lack there of) that both those roles imply."

  8. KAAS IS BAAS on October 14, 2022 at 5:28 am

As an update to my previous article talking about Easy Anti-Cheat, as it turns out they’re not stopping Linux support for it at all. Previously we got word from Garry Newman of Facepunch Studios, who said "EAC are pausing their Linux support" but as it turns out that’s not right.
    https://www.gamingonlinux.com/articles/easy-anti-cheat-is-actually-still-supported-for-linux-a-statement-from-epic-games.14077

  9. BewegteBilderrahmen on October 14, 2022 at 5:35 am

Remember, Epic already pays exclusive devs enough to reimburse backers, so piracy won’t hurt the devs.

    Fuck epic games….Linux 👍👍

"Well, I should be very clear," Sweeney said. "The thing that I feel is incredibly important for the future of the industry is that the PC platform remains open, so that any user without any friction can install applications from any developer, and ensure that no company, Microsoft or anybody else, can insert themselves by force as the universal middleman, and force developers to sell through them instead of selling directly to customers. " -Tim Sweeney, on Microsoft building an apple style exclusion platform with UWP.

He is full of it. I’ve bought from Epic Mega Games since the early 90’s. No more.

  16. Matt M on October 14, 2022 at 5:44 am

Just so everyone knows because it appears @Bellular News doesn’t know that much about linux, or at least the state of gaming on Linux, but Easy Anti Cheat actually has (and always has had) a NATIVE linux version. Easy Anti Cheat works natively in linux, and that support isn’t stopping. The problem is that the linux version of EAC only works with native Linux games. The problem is that for all the games that are Windows only and have to be run through Wine or Proton, the linux native EAC client doesn’t work, and they haven’t figured out how to get it to work with the Windows version for Windows games. Apparently Valve is still working on it, though.

Also, the statement that was the subject of the video was later clarified and it turns out Epic isn’t ending development for Linux, but it’s not like that makes Epic any better. They’re ruining gaming, and Windows gamers may hate Epic but they will still buy AAA games they want to play if they’re on Epic, whereas us Linux users tend to absolutely THROW love, money, and support at platforms/devs that support us (like Valve), but we have a LONG memory and definitely don’t forget the companies that try and screw us over like Epic.

  17. Artur K on October 14, 2022 at 5:44 am

Like EasyAntiCheat stops cheaters…. Just bin that shit

  18. Dadlord on October 14, 2022 at 5:45 am

Are anybody here is really working on games? Maybe even PC? Or you are just crybabies?

"Moving to linux from Microsoft is like moving to Canada from usa" linux is the definition of freedom and freedom is what the USA thinks they are. This is highly offensive.

  22. Jaz Buntu on October 14, 2022 at 5:52 am

There’s a version of wine that’s being worked on that seeks to translate all the eac code 😉

  23. Misteryman321 on October 14, 2022 at 5:53 am

All I want….ALL I WANT….is Borderlands 3 to be on Linux just like the other borderlands games.

  24. Daz Holmes on October 14, 2022 at 5:56 am

i just want easy anti cheat to work on wine/proton so i can completely remove windows ffs

  25. Gaming Dad on October 14, 2022 at 5:56 am

so… how long do you think it’ll take before Valve creates an EAC alternative?

  26. Jemimacakes on October 14, 2022 at 5:58 am

Hey I’m here from 3 years in the future where proton was actuslly able to come out despite epic trying to destroy it! Unfortunately Epic games is now allowing easy anti cheat on proton but only if devs use their special epic online easy anti cheat which requires an epic games account login so they can sell your data!

  27. gohstr on October 14, 2022 at 5:58 am

Shame that Gary couldn’t keep his Linux support. Fuck Epic. Valve is actually making it to where I can play games on my beloved platform.

I’m more than happy to stop playing any games that intentionally drop support for Linux and are no longer playable through Wine.

WILL NOT support Epic in ANY way. They stopped having my support when they killed Unreal Tournament for Fortnite.

Yeah, Valve takes more, but they’re giving more back to the consumer. Yeah, they’re not supporting Apple users, but Apple made that really difficult when they dropped OpenGL for the Metal API.

  28. Nico Fischer on October 14, 2022 at 6:01 am

Shit rust is also Epic? Im on linux and cant play anymore. Today they dropped Rocket League for Linux an mac.

  29. Jonathan Realman on October 14, 2022 at 6:03 am

I think "Epic" is the leas epic thing that happened to gaming over all since EA.

  30. yt account3000 on October 14, 2022 at 6:03 am

why is linux not seen as a pc?

  31. tatsu on October 14, 2022 at 6:05 am

@BellularNews can you make a follow-up video on this? Rocket League ended up being switched from full platform support to windows exclusive, same with satisfactory.

  32. knope on October 14, 2022 at 6:06 am

epic is the absolute worst for their latest attack on linux via rocket league.

  34. Azarilh on October 14, 2022 at 6:08 am

I think Valve is pushing gaming on Linux because they want their own console and of course Linux is the best option when you want to create a new OS.

I mean, if you go to the Steam store and open the page of a Linux game, you’ll notice the Steam logo instead of the Linux one.
And of course they already did a Linux OS which is SteamOS.
if you use Linux that is not SteamOS, you’ll have the option in your library to show only the Linux games and it uses the Tux logo, not Steam.

I know it’s OT but it’s still interesting to notice.

  35. TheOverMaster on October 14, 2022 at 6:09 am

Epic lures the masses in with "free" games just so they can get more "users", never fall for it.

  36. GeoNeilUK on October 14, 2022 at 6:10 am

    Couple oif points…

[1] SteamOS is a Linux distro, Valve have a vested interest in bringing as many games as possible to Linux.

[2] Linux is a moving target, compatibility can break at any time with any update. Linux does have things like Snap, Flatpak and AppImage. Windows is way more of a stable platform, so coding for Wine/Proton (or more accurately, coding for Windows and being mindful of Wine and especially Proton in their QA) makes a lot of sense. Furthermore, I can only assume that having a Windows game run on Wine might take less effort and money for a developer than developing a native Linux port.

Also, is it just Epic that we have to worry about here? With Microsoft moving Windows away from Win32 and towards UWP, could that be another roadblock to Linux gaming?

  37. Lyes 603 on October 14, 2022 at 6:11 am

well can’t we just crack this easy anti cheat
and just be 100% free from Windows’s auto updates , high RAM consumption and forced bloatware ????

  38. rinnegan sr on October 14, 2022 at 6:11 am

last time shitty company tried to force a drm on pc gamers was microsoft anyone remember windows live? this is what exclusivity does.

  39. Øystein Espedal on October 14, 2022 at 6:11 am

Video titles getting a bit click baity now, lads. Still appreciate the content, as it is still nuanced and broad.

Fight the appeal to the lowest common denominator, don’t join it.

  40. Azarilh on October 14, 2022 at 6:13 am

    Competition is good but…
Valve vs Epic is not competition if Epic offers exclusive games…

  41. 1 2 on October 14, 2022 at 6:13 am

Epic acts like these modern day twitch/snapchat fortnite kids who suddenly got Super Rich over night. Now they are bossing around and showing off their new "bling bling’s" and bullying others. But they still dont have a single fucking clue about a thing and that shows off.

Only thing they can make is to things go worse. But what comes for the money Easy come easy go id say

  42. TheVertical92 on October 14, 2022 at 6:13 am

    To correct Sweeney:
Moving from Windows to Linux is like moving from China to USA.
