Episode 13 – Flushing, Senescence & Final Days before Harvest – FULL

Episode 13 – Flushing, Senescence & Final Days before Harvest – FULL

The final days of bloom are here and were are 1 day away from chopping so we can start drying. The plants are experiencing low appetites and a natural fade is on every slot except for Buildasoil. We can now visually judge the buds in terms of final Trichome/THC content and I think on this video, the looks will match the smoke. The bud structures havent really progressed much and we are just observing the trichomes and waiting for all the clear ones to turn milky or amber. Once the majority of the trichomes are milky, I flush the plants. Flushing is just using plain water instead of anything with nutrients and the purpose is to strip away all the nutrients still left in the leaves. Chlorophyll is comprised of nitrogen which creates a harsh chemical grassy taste and from experience, I know that green leaves at harvest leave a harsh taste. I like to flush for 10 days and in this video we show the process of striping away nutrients and plants experiencing a yellowing in leaves similar to fruit plants when the fall comes and leaves start turning color. All feeds are now just plain water and this is just a waiting game.

48-72 hours without light just before harvesting leads to extreme Chlorophyll degradation. The plant only has carbohydrates reserves for 1-2 days. When no light is available, the´plant tries to keep up nutrition from degradation of the proteins in the Chlorophyll complex. That’s where the degradation of chlorophyll instantly sets in and colours the plant in the typical colours. Several studies have shown, that flushing doesn’t make any differences in the mineral balance of the buds. Half the fertilizer of the plant ~ 10 days before harvest and leave it in darkness for 48-72 hours before cutting it. Try it. It will make you happy. 😀

As informative as this video is, I would highly recommend NOT to pour gallons of water into a bucket with a power cord next to it on the floor 👍🙃

loved the comparison, especially the emphasis of N during late stage flower – when should i stop feeding N? week 6?

*shrugs* It sounds like your propogating urban myths: from what little info ive seen; chlorophyll degrades over time through the drying and curing process. I dont have it in front of me but there was a good double blind test that tested the smoke of flushed and unflushed plants and none of the smokers could tell the difference. maybe more researc his needed tho, love the channel, love the intro, love the experimentation! ps fuk youtube and there cencorship!

Thanks for all the great info bro… Keep em coming

If In living soil, stopping your feeds about 3 weeks before harvest and continuing to water til plants look “flushed” is your flush,
Personally a flush isn’t a flush until the plant looks flushed and done feeding. You can do a 10 day flush but if the leaves are still really green there’s too many nutes still.
Personally why I like the gradual flush organically provides.

100% agree….have flushed for years…I mean waaaaayyyy before YouTube even existed lol….but you know YouTube…a lot of BS out there in my opinion…but to each his own…da da da da da!!!! 😎✌️

  11. @williambock1821 on February 9, 2024 at 5:42 am

Buildasoil obviously needs to be mixed with a lot of stuff. Not just straight soil.

  12. @KeptDragon on February 9, 2024 at 5:46 am

Bro science. Nitrogen is odorless in any form. Sulphur smells like rotten eggs.

2:34 with what kind of equipment you’re capable of making shots like this! Damn! I’m on the mission now of finding the best tool for it, tried 3 different things and I’m still not satisfied. But those shots looks so incredibly good! I’d love to be able to do the same…

What I really hate are people who generalize these topics, of course it’s COMPLETELY FINE not to flush when soy use organic fertilizers!!!

To much of something good is not always the best good video, bro. Me personally I use pro mix the dark pink or yellow bag of peat moss and that comes kinda of natural and I use gaia green and I amend to the minimum to avoid that same issue I just ran some ILGM lemon 🍋 Haze autos and they came out f××××× bomb but my method mite not work for someone else.

When you say you are flushing for 10 days do you mean you are running water through the plant every day of that 10 days?

Big QUESTION here. How can I flush my plant growing in 25 gallon grow bag laying on the ground?

I really want to flush and I have mostly cloudy trichomes except on the sugar leaves. My soil reads
    Nitrogen – Low
    Phosphorus – Medium to High
    Potassium – High

I did cut a bunch of X slits in the sides of the grow bag and watered the hell out it to see if it would leak out the sides, but no go. Original soil was 50% miracle grow (I know bad choice. Too late though, 1st timer), 25% vermiculite, 25% peat and a few cups of worm casting around the top of the roots. After 4 weeks of flower added a few cups of grounded shells from crab and lobster, etc. A few weeks later added phosphorus liquid nutrients in water then measured nutrient contents as stated above to this point. Figure I have maybe 2 weeks before I cut down. Buds are fat and huge. 6′ high. I think it’s a Sativa plant. 9 pedal leaves and thin. Not very bunched together at all. Very crystalized buds now. I don’t know the strain. A friend gave me the seed and only have letters and numbers on the packet. Tried to search those markings online but nothing showed up.

Any suggestion on flushing that soil mix with grow bags?

DWC from here on out. Mosquito bits, mosquito dunks, rice hulls, nematodes ,,,, nothing is working

  39. @christophergomez2584 on February 9, 2024 at 6:12 am

So landrace cultivars are no good cause they were grown in soil. Gotcha

  40. @sk8ervince on February 9, 2024 at 6:12 am

Your opinion on flushing is uninformed. The half life of a chlorophyll molecule is 2 days so within 5 days max of drying/curing the chlorophyll is gone. Hence why your buds aren’t as green as when you first chopped your plants down.

I keep giving my plants nutrients till it’s time to chop and the leaves are always NATURALLY senesce. If you are having to flush to force a senescence then that is not natural because you forced it by starving the plant of nutrients.

After a proper dry and cure. My buds look, smell and taste amazing with a smooth smoke and white ash.

  41. @scottfree6479 on February 9, 2024 at 6:13 am

iirc Dr Bugbee tested tissue samples and found no difference in nitrogen levels between 2 week, 1 week, 3 day, and no flush.

  42. @talleywacka9062 on February 9, 2024 at 6:16 am

Jeremy straight organic he dnt flush because it’s his living soil I wouldn’t flush my organic living soil either, that said if u grow with chemicals then u have too I switched and never looked back when I seen how frosty and skunky my grows are without chemicals
