Eye Opener featuring Cannabis in the Greater Battle Creek Area
In 2016, Michigan’s legislature passed a law to license and regulate the medical marijuana industry and allow commercial marijuana transaction.
In 2018, Michigan voters updated state law to make marijuana legal under state and local law for adults 21 years of age or older, to make industrial hemp legal under state and local law, and to control the commercial and distribution of marijuana under a system that licenses, regulates, and taxes the businesses involved. This law also allows the personal possession and use of marijuana by persons 21 years of age or older and provides for the lawful cultivation of marijuana and industrial hemp by persons 21 years of age or older.
On Tuesday, November 9, 2021, the Battle Creek Area Chamber of Commerce invited attendees to a conversation (virtually) with the City of Battle Creek and Emmett Township officials to answer:
1. How did our municipality come to the decision to allow for both medical and recreational provisional centers?
2. Do we have any grow operations with our jurisdiction?
3. How much is the permit annually for these businesses?
4. How many current facilities do we have?
5. How many are we allotted?
6. Have any facilities been given abatements, assistance, etc. to locate in our jurisdiction?
7. Where do we go to find out more information on the code and enforcements locally?
Battle Creek Area Chamber of Commerce President Kara Beer also welcomed new members, highlighted member anniversaries, announced Fall into the Arts winners, recapped recent Ribbon Cutting celebrations, and covered upcoming events.
