Ezequiel Hurbines, Exploring Perceptions About Marijuana Legalization for Recreational Use in Texas
Despite considerable research on the perceived effects of marijuana legalization in the United States, little is known of the perceptions of law enforcement officers. In this qualitative study, the researcher explored law enforcement officers’ perceptions about the effects of legalizing marijuana for recreational use in Texas. Four officers from four counties in Texas participated in semi-structured interviews. Thematic analysis was used to derive three perceived negative effects: “I support”, “I do not support”, and “crime increase”. Most significantly, three of four officers vocalized support of legalizing marijuana for recreational use in Texas.
Interesting hearing what law enforcement thinks about this. I would love to see what a larger study would show.
Glad you addressed this issue in your study. I would like to see a statewide study addressing the issues and breaking down the responses into gender, age, rank and assigned law enforcement duties. Thank you. Dr. Springer
