Growing Cannabis in Coco Coir Basics + My ‘Feelings’ On Coco…

An intro to palm peat, coco peat, or just plain old coco: using it as a primary growing medium, rather than as an amendment, issues to watch out for and my personal (and strong) opinion on this particular medium.

  5. JustBbello on May 17, 2022 at 8:11 pm

Man had a swing and a miss seeing from the CoComments…🤭😅 everyone seems to love it even after the "opinion" however very informative thanks for the vid…

  6. alex fortier on May 17, 2022 at 8:11 pm

I really don’t understand the difficulty people are having with coco coir. I started growing in coco and never had a issue, just make sure ph is right and add enough nutrients and that’s it.

  7. Zack Kuhn on May 17, 2022 at 8:12 pm

Thanks great information A++ from a new grower completely understood 👍

  8. SNoWfLaKe_Da_BoSS on May 17, 2022 at 8:13 pm

It’s technically soulless not hydroponic hydroponic by definition is growing in water hence hydro

  9. ZooCraft on May 17, 2022 at 8:15 pm

I’m surprised you don’t like coir. The best growers use coir. It’s has the best worlds of hydroponics and soil. I use a cheap battery powered drip irrigation system with coir and cloth pots. Works like a charm. I like the Fox Farm line of nutrients and follow their feeding schedules along with recommended flushes. Keep the room humidity and temperature stable for the grow period and optimal light levels with a light meter. Phone apps work fine for that. It’s a lot of variables to manage but once you figure them out your product will rival the best you can find in a dispensary.

  10. Gustavo Medrano on May 17, 2022 at 8:17 pm

i was thinking about using coco because my tent is 80f and i heard using coco is better in high temperature… is that true?

  11. Clayton Alexander on May 17, 2022 at 8:17 pm

Coco is way more forgiving than soil and way less likely to be overwatered… Almost every grower ive ever known that has started in soil eventually ditches soil for just coco with some worm castings in it. Its fantastic stuff.

  12. EMUDroid on May 17, 2022 at 8:17 pm

Basically lex and all the people on his forum are rookie growers

  14. ScapeAllDay1 on May 17, 2022 at 8:23 pm

My plants are in 1L Pots now flowering watered 100ML daily great results
Watered 600ML with 10% Run-off got overwatered chicken claw leaves 5 days MINIMUM till dry with Nitrogen deficiency
I’m sticking to 0 run off from now on. Sick of getting opposite side of spectrum answers…
Run-off is absolute bullshit from my first 2 grows,

Because if I feed with 100ML then the next 6 days i water with 100ml they thrive with slight underwater
600ML 1x weekly either water or feeding they get chicken claw

  15. Nathaniel Chambers on May 17, 2022 at 8:25 pm

    "coco queer"

  16. Taylor Gulledge on May 17, 2022 at 8:27 pm

The absolute biggest plants I see grown in substrate are grown with coco

  17. aussie auto on May 17, 2022 at 8:27 pm

I love growing in coco coir I’m having great success with my growing

  18. Walt on May 17, 2022 at 8:29 pm

Bruh you’re doing people a huuuuge disservice by telling people not to grow coco. Coco isn’t that hard to master it just comes down to watering technique and having the know how.

A first time grower should not attempt coco yes, but if you’ve had a couple soil grows then making the switch to coco can be beneficial. There’s less chances of pests, more control over your nutrient feedings and coco can just yield more. It’s been proven time and time again. Just get it right just like you have to get anything else right. It took me a full grow cycle before I got comfortable with coco and got it down. Now I’m growing the best stuff I ever have.

  19. Just Saying on May 17, 2022 at 8:29 pm

I’m using this for the first time just to start my seedlings before transferring them to dwc

  20. NORE on May 17, 2022 at 8:31 pm

  21. Alro on May 17, 2022 at 8:32 pm

    COCO 4 LIFE
IM IN LOOOOOOOVE WITH MA COCO!
    @TRIPPY TERPENES U GOT IT

  22. kcrknp on May 17, 2022 at 8:33 pm

The ending rationale is entirely fallacious. The fact people wrestle with it does not mean it’s more difficult. It could mean there are less resources and less people willing to work at it because they’re used to their own more popular medium. The fact that you yourself don’t like coco and don’t have much experience with it is further evidence that there isn’t enough information for people to reliably grow well with it.

  23. Michael Williams on May 17, 2022 at 8:33 pm

I will use coco forever fuuk this guy

  24. Jackass Duck on May 17, 2022 at 8:34 pm

Thank you for your thoughts.. I bought it and just wanted to use it up. I’m going hydro after this run. I will increase my cal mag slighty.

  25. Vosovogalsyncope on May 17, 2022 at 8:36 pm

I’m a DWC guy, my new place isn’t suitable for sound of the air pump. So was thinking coco.

  26. Andrew Parrinello on May 17, 2022 at 8:38 pm

125 ppms.. Lmfao nah bruh under these new leds evvverytime I’m making my mix first step is 300 ppms cal mag anything under these cal mag whore exotics struggle

Real pros use coco or rockwool.. Quality at the end of the day destroys soil crap

  27. Home Grown Library on May 17, 2022 at 8:39 pm

Have you revisited this topic since the release of this video? I’m curious to know what you think about using organic amendments in coco.

  28. Brad Trimas on May 17, 2022 at 8:40 pm

Are you Tone Vays? You guys sound and look identical

  29. Kevin F on May 17, 2022 at 8:45 pm

Would a 50/50 coco and ocean forest soil be ok for an indoor grow?

  30. pops64on on May 17, 2022 at 8:45 pm

Mix 50/50 with homemade compost, add perlite and you have in my words the best medium.
You get nutrients, microorganisms, and good bacteria cheap.

  31. Shoreganix on May 17, 2022 at 8:47 pm

Good video, coco has its benefits but I learned back in 2017, living soil produces the finest buds.

  32. JLo™ on May 17, 2022 at 8:48 pm

You can taste the coco in the buds and extracts…..XD dont like the taste….just stay soil!

  33. Gussy Zeinert on May 17, 2022 at 8:48 pm

Reluctant to get in full on hydro? Bro have u heard of a budget😂😂😂 agree with a lot of what your saying but yeh

  35. DonShotta_86G 86Gaming on May 17, 2022 at 8:51 pm

Coco is easier than soil don’t be fooled guys!

  36. Shinosuke Nohara on May 17, 2022 at 8:51 pm

How much cal mag do you add?

  37. Ryan Champin on May 17, 2022 at 8:51 pm

Dude – dont scare off people from coco coir – especially coming from someone who didnt even know to clean it or buffer soak it w cal mag for 24hrs prior to usage. Also – since no one is saying this – ITS PRONOUNCED `COCO KOY-YER` NOT COCO KWAAAAA omg that drove me insane.

Coco that is properly cleaned and buffered with cal-mag is one of THE BEST mediums out there. Why do you think all commercial grow shops use it and not plain soil? I run dwc for singles and coco for group grows, as with anything, you need to do your research and experiment with it – but don’t push ppl away from it with your platform bc of absolute nonsense lol go but a bag of mothers earth coco + perlite – smh lol ITS PRONOUNCED `COCO KOY-YER ` NOT COCC KWAAAAAAAA

  38. RatusNatus on May 17, 2022 at 8:52 pm

The Coco problem is not salt. It is Tannin. To completely remove it you do need to wash(for 1h) it 7 times and boil 1 time.
Im about to test s substrate that wash it 3 times….lets see how it goes.

  39. tyler miller on May 17, 2022 at 8:53 pm

I’ve never used coco this will be my first time, do I have to feed with coco nutrients or can I continue to used my nutrients line up I’m using now ?

  40. rem ee on May 17, 2022 at 8:53 pm

    Bad info ! Beware

  41. The loft bird on May 17, 2022 at 8:54 pm

I think you see more problems because it’s to go to for first time and new growers not soil. I think it’s harder to over water and see less pest with coco

  42. Tickle Grenade Grows on May 17, 2022 at 8:54 pm

    I’m in category ‘A’ lol!

  43. Brad Taylor on May 17, 2022 at 8:55 pm

Reiteration, how can you screw up a grow in coco lmao!!! I think a child could do it

  44. Jeff Kurtz on May 17, 2022 at 8:56 pm

I just had to grow one plant in coir with a techniflora nutrient kit, to permanently ditch soil and DWC. blew away my best organic soil buds by 100%, higher yield, once a week watering, no mold issues, reusable, lightweight. never had to flush or any of that p.H nonsense. these bricks they make now, are ready to go. you can get all the supplies you need for 100 plants and fit it in a backpack and walk into your grow.

  45. Jose Duenez on May 17, 2022 at 9:00 pm

Im a rookie and start d with Coco any issues if any were easily corrected. Coco grows are easy.

  46. Ajax Mota on May 17, 2022 at 9:00 pm

I mean the title is called " growing in coco" do you think these people are coincidentally watching "growing in coco" because they’re growing in dirt? Lol js

  47. Blunted &co. on May 17, 2022 at 9:00 pm

is growing a mother plant is coco better to grow it in vs hydro? if so can you just grow a mother plant in coco with no nutrients or do you also need nutrients like what will be fed in hydro? lmk and thank you for your time!

  48. TheMarauder00 on May 17, 2022 at 9:00 pm

Soil = pest problems, DWC in a indoor situation I find it just to noisy air pumps, chillers not ideal for a bedroom. Coco fits into this niche the best. Cal mag is the key here. I find it to be reasonable trade off.

  49. Lee Robinson on May 17, 2022 at 9:04 pm

Brilliant… Went into my local shop for batmix and got talked into buying coco. Like us growers need any more problems and difficulties 😩

  50. 57ashdot on May 17, 2022 at 9:06 pm

Coco is awesome. The best part is it’s STERILE. Can’t tell you how many grower friends I have that complain of bugs/mold/PM/etc. Growing in soil of course. Meanwhile I’m chuckling to myself as I’ve not a single issue for 7 grows now. Averaged ~11 ounces per plant, they got absolutely massive. pH to 5.5-6, add some extra CalMag to the normal hydro nute schedule (there are dedicated coco schedules out there on the interwebz), and feed till you have runoff. It’s stupid simple. The fact that it dries quickly is actually a good thing, promotes healthy intake of oxygen in the roots. Put on some drip feeders and a pump and it becomes a non-issue. It’s the best hydro medium period. DWC produces amazing results, but one dead air pump and your plants are going to drown within a few hours. You will never have a catastrophic failure with coco. It’s spongy enough to retain at least a little bit of moisture for a long time, and always has great aeration. Pairs amazing with fabric pots.

Soil is a prime vector for pathogens, I will never grow with it ever again. The only time I ever had a pest issue was when I used organic soil. You have amazing info and I appreciate all your hard work, but I think you are dead wrong on this one dude.
