How To Crate Train a Puppy | Chewtorials

Creating a safe space for your pup to feel cozy and secure is always a top priority. That’s why crate training them is key. It’ll give them a sense of security whether you’re home or out and about. Plus, it can prevent all kinds of chewing troubles and potty-training issues.

Here’s how to crate train a puppy:

First, pick the crate style and size that’ll suit your pup best. Lots of pet parents choose wire crates for plenty of air flow, which is helpful for pups with longer coats and those living in hotter climates. Next, place the crate in a central location. One where you and your pup can keep eye contact, so they know you’re there if they need you for anything. Then, coax your pup inside, toss them a tasty treat and bring on the toys, like some cool chews or puzzles. Keep it going, increasing their crate time, along with their treats and toys. Finally, try heading out and about for a while. Leaving your puppy at home is ok, when do it the right way. But don’t crate them for longer than they can “hold it.” Usually, an hour for each month of age. Try to keep it at four hours tops.

Follow these simple steps and crate training a puppy will be a piece of cake.

I’m not actually going to use the information in this video but I have a dog who is 8 years old and she has always been the pickiest eater, she will not eat treats that we buy her at all, she mostly just likes chicken. Let’s say I was trying to train her, what else could I give her besides treats ? Would I give her very tiny strips of chicken? Because I honestly don’t know what else I could give to her if I wanted to train her. I assume you are going to say chicken but I just want to hear what you have to say

Crates should only be used to transport!! If you need to crate your dog everyday, you shouldn’t have a dog. You don’t have the time.

First of all everybody can’t leave for only 3-4 hours a day. Some ppl work. I take my dog outside to poop before i leave with water in his crate. One thing this latdy didn’t do correctly since it’s about training for a crate. I think when she left her dog and then returned home she should have let her dog go straight out to release himself. Not come out to play. I say this because as soon as i get home we go outside so that way my dog can come back inside and have no accidents inside

I just got a 4 month old puppy and am struggling with getting her to like the crate. I only leave her about one hour per day and she always whines the whole time and pees. We go out to pee every two hours or so but haven’t quite got potty training down yet.

We’re fostering a puppy who has a crate, but we also have two larger dogs who have their own beds (not crates). The puppy chooses to nap in the larger dogs beds vs. his crate and has no interest in his crate. We’ve rewarded him with treats, made it a cozy place for him, still to no avail. Any tips?

I have a crate like this with a divider and it’s sooooooo hard to get him in even with treats. I ended up switching jobs so that I could have more time but now I can’t even coax him in with treats.

I just got a 8 week old lab, been trying to teach him crate training, every single time he goes into the crate he obviously cry’s which I knew would happen, but he always seems to poop or pee in the crate, I made the crate small enough so he can’t move around too much where he would go potty in it, been letting him sleep on the bed with me a lot at night time, hasn’t had too many accidents on the bed, but really don’t know what I’m going to do when it comes to leaving him in the crate at night or while I’m out

  32. @Lola.y.KillaKash on March 23, 2024 at 7:12 am

I train without treats ..did everything without treats …you don’t want your dog to connect reward with doing what they have to

  33. @mariaolivieri1633 on March 23, 2024 at 7:13 am

She never talks about when they cry in the cage. Most pups do.

  34. @serracheoy556 on March 23, 2024 at 7:13 am

These are so helpful!! Do you think you could make a video about how to stop a puppy from going potty in their kennel?

  35. @crunchwrapsupreme8812 on March 23, 2024 at 7:15 am

    My dogs love there crates
Took a while, but they see it as there own room
They go in at night by themselves, they actually sleep better, cuase they have a sense of security, even though there on guard 24/7

I have a pit bull, massive and he won’t use the bathroom in the crate he’ll hold it till he gets out, so he’s had a lot of accidents and he’s 8 weeks and I can’t really take him out much because he only has 1 shot. I’m supposed to get him toys this week but idk
