How To Grow Cannabis Outdoors. The Cannabis Growing Guide For Casual Growers | Gardening in Canada

Cannabis growing is a genre of plant care unto itself. However you can casually grow cannabis outside with little to no effort. This gardening in Canada video looks at a beginners guide to growing cannabis outdoors. We walk through pot size, soil fertilizer, water needs etc. This is a simple how to grow cannabis for beginners and doesn’t have any complicated concepts.

Cannabis growing in some regards has become very complicated in the information given. Cannabis growing doesn’t have to be at all difficult and can be done casually. I personally don’t enjoy using cannabis for anything other then bath bombs and lotions. But the cannabis plant in general is satisfying to grow.

Ashley is an agronomist who has had a passion for plants since she was a small child. In the long summers as a child, she would garden alongside her grandmother and it was then that she realized her love for greenery. With years of great studying, Ashley had begun her post-secondary education at the University of Saskatchewan.
At first, her second love, animals, was the career path she chose but while doing her undergrad she realized that her education would take her elsewhere. And with that, four years later she graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a bachelor’s degree in science and a major in Soil Science.
Some of Ashley’s interests are YouTube, in which she posts informative videos about plants and gardening. The focus of Ashley’s YouTube channel is to bring science to gardening in a way that is informative but also helpful to others learning to garden. She also talks about the importance of having your own garden and the joys of gardening indoors. Ashley continues to study plants in her free time and hopes to expand her YouTube channel as well as her reach to up and coming gardeners.

    Yes !!!

Finally someone that doesn’t want to buy 12 bottles of nutes and spoon feed every elements individually to a plant !!

  2. Therese Wheatley on June 24, 2022 at 4:32 pm

When you say jump right into bloom nutes do you mean right from the seedling stage? Or once it’s grown a few nodes and gotten some good foliage on it?

  3. Jevon Edmond on June 24, 2022 at 4:34 pm

    Hello sunshine

  4. WildEdibles on June 24, 2022 at 4:34 pm

Is it true they need to be under a meter tall? Lol i bend them over so they stay under the 8 foot tall fence lol
Oh i have microbes and fungi etc…:)

  5. Maori Assassin on June 24, 2022 at 4:35 pm

Hi i have a question. My seeds just started sprouting and they’re quite long some are standing upright but some are falling over is this still alright??

  6. Pete Vann on June 24, 2022 at 4:36 pm

In Australia we always flush hydro to get rid of the bad tastes from pumping the plant with chemicals . But this is the only reason we flush . I’ve never heard of anyone flushing outdoor crops that are organically grown .

  7. Michael Alexander Nagy on June 24, 2022 at 4:39 pm

Flushing has to do with fertilizer. The last couple weeks of flower you cut it off fertilizer and feed it nothing but water. "Flushes" the plant of anything yucky left over. … You also forgot to mention autoflower seeds; which can be male or female.

  8. Craig Anderson on June 24, 2022 at 4:39 pm

I’m a fan of the fungi, bacteria, nemotode and protozoa regime. Most ( guys) grow like they drive, hard and fast. In leaf mould, worm castings for fertiliser or rabbit poop, is all you need. Knf recipes help. But it’s all about the bacteria and fungi. Bacteria is everywhere, just work on your micorizhae fungus network. Companion planting does wonders! Love your stuff lady, very nice!!

Hi, love the video. Really informative.

Is it a really bad idea to plant in a tomato grow bag?

  13. Sergio V on June 24, 2022 at 4:47 pm

Cannabis doesn’t like the smell of you

  14. xI3LU3x on June 24, 2022 at 4:48 pm

More cannabis videos of any nature the more information out there the better. This whole community is driven by other community members sharing information. And who love to hear more of all the threads being broken down with the scientific method. Because there is some crazy thing people are doing to these plants and almost make no sense.

  15. Darcy Potter Potter on June 24, 2022 at 4:50 pm

indoor and yes organic in promix hp with 1-4 rate of my own worm casting and 1/6 the compost, yucca as wetting agent and Gaia green i also use their bloom and water-soluble k i use Mass biological and FISHSHIT and i use PROMIX CONNECT when i transplant from seed cell i grew outdoor for a long time but prefer the control of indoor

  16. Falling Awake on June 24, 2022 at 4:52 pm

I’m a first time grower this year. I don’t know a damn thing about cannabis or plants lol, but I’ve seen a million of these videos and your advice in this one makes the most sense to me. Especially about keeping it simple and not f***ing with the soil too much by adding a million things to it. I’ll be following your instructions, wish me luck!

  17. Jordan Cleveland on June 24, 2022 at 4:55 pm

Why would you top it there🤔

  18. Jorge S. on June 24, 2022 at 4:56 pm

I really enjoyed this video. You explain growing cannabis in pretty simple terms. Would you be willing to do a trimming video?

  19. Claudia H on June 24, 2022 at 4:56 pm

Great video!!! Very interesting! Please posts more videos on this topic! As a former chemist I absolutely enjoy the scientific explaination on everything. Im going to see if you have a pruning video. Thanks! I agree there are too many amendments/ processes I see people doing out there and I always wondered about it’s necessity. Thanks for the flushing explaination, results and graphs!

  20. M A on June 24, 2022 at 4:57 pm

    Thank you for this.

  21. Anthony Celano on June 24, 2022 at 4:57 pm

I was thought that plants in the veg state needed lots of nitrogen. Great video very informative I think I will always be a beginner.

So glad to see your channel is growing!

  24. NeverEnough Time on June 24, 2022 at 5:05 pm

Thank you for the great video! It’s difficult to find advice on the shorter growing season in our areas (in Manitoba myself). Do you give your pepper plants the same treatment in regards to flowering and 3 days in the garage? Just curious because mine have been hit and miss throughout the years. Oh and when do you begin your outdoor season? 3rd/4th week of May? Or outside temp average?

  25. Elizabeth Findlay on June 24, 2022 at 5:06 pm

Correct me if I’m wrong, but cannabis plants that are laggy like the one @ 7:45 mark could be planted deeper like a tomato plant to grow extra roots

  26. Bent Genetics on June 24, 2022 at 5:07 pm

    Great information, thanks for sharing

  27. Snow White on June 24, 2022 at 5:08 pm

what about the rights of those that are allergic? What about the right to breath

  28. ICronic on June 24, 2022 at 5:10 pm

For the light deprivation to make them flip to flower when you put them back outside have you ever had them re enter the vegging stage?

  29. Dead Man's Weed LLC on June 24, 2022 at 5:12 pm

Man yall are kicking ass! Good info too.. any suggestions for a new grower and company. Owner?

  30. Daryl Preston on June 24, 2022 at 5:14 pm

So refreshing to hear some science VS the opinions of many growers selling products. My opinion. They’re weed(s) Don’t overcomplicate it. What NPK would you recommend, notwithstanding the low N value you’ve suggested? As far as calcium/mag and other micronutrients what values would you suggest with the bloom PK cal etc? What are your thoughts about air pruning for root growth? Will this delay the onset of "forced" flower because the root development continues? Thanks.

  31. Steve Hillbilly on June 24, 2022 at 5:15 pm

Hey great video. Cannabis grower here and you hit the nail on the head.
Marketing and propaganda has taking the industry to crazy costs.
Average home grower is bombarded with info, mostly one sided, to persuade sales.
Keep up the great work and peace ✌🏻 from Alberta Canada 🇨🇦

  32. WildEdibles on June 24, 2022 at 5:18 pm

We use compost, rabbits bedding, i use comfrey fermented feed its a bloom helper, sometimes i use epsolm salts at the end very low amounts and i end up flushing it later (stress the plant to help the buds but i don’t know if it really helps or hurts, well it hurts the plant thats the point)
Trim up leaves for air flow so they dont mold

  33. radical gaming clips and highlights on June 24, 2022 at 5:19 pm

Please make more videos like this. I heard covering your plants for 2 weeks with black trash bags forces them to flower. Just hope they don’t revert back to veg

  34. Matty Grows in Canada on June 24, 2022 at 5:20 pm

Thanks for the video! New Subscriber, I just started my channel and posted my first video. I am in Alberta…whoop whoop 🕺🇨🇦

  35. A day with Adrianna on June 24, 2022 at 5:21 pm

Great video. Do you have a video on how to clip trim prune a cannabis plant. I am growing my first plants, so far so good just gave them their 1st feeding . How do I know when it’s time to top the plant

  36. Forrest Phoenix on June 24, 2022 at 5:21 pm

The light deprivation tip of putting the plants in dark for 3 days is huge. WAY better than having to put the plant in darkness every day at 6pm. One of the most informational videos on cannabis I’ve seen. Thank you. I hope you can teach us more.

  37. Morning Wood on June 24, 2022 at 5:21 pm

When you take the plants into the garage, are they in complete darkness?

  38. NordeggSonya on June 24, 2022 at 5:22 pm

Cannabis comes in many more forms today. I started with Autoflower cannabis. Cannabis crossed with a ruderalis becomes an autoflower. You don’t have to do anything really, no veg state, no forced change to flower by whatever method. This is a set it and (almost) forget it kind of cannabis. You choose indica or sativa or hybrid and away you go. You germinate the seed exactly as you normally would and plant it and baby it along. You set your time to 16/8 and in three to four months you harvest. Pretty much idiot proof. Love em!!!!

  39. Greenhouse Reptiles on June 24, 2022 at 5:24 pm

I would have transplanted them when they were still small I normally wait until the leaves are on the outside of the container and you could also plant it up to that first node it would help it be stronger outside please don’t be intimidated of the cannabis community we are all just trying to help each other

  40. g L on June 24, 2022 at 5:24 pm

And now I know why your channel is so amazing and answering all my questions about soil 😂. Sustainability in the cannabis industry is a big problem. As a consumer, I see the various ways it can be grown and achieve the same results when done correctly (such as coco coir, rock-wool and hydroponic). Rockwool is used once, then off to the landfill, where it takes a very long time to decompose and decay. Indoor growing also requires lots more energy and carbon emissions. Theres a myth that indoor is higher quality and this is actually not even true in all areas.

  41. River on June 24, 2022 at 5:24 pm

I would really love to see how your babies turned out … you have so much knowledge so much respect to you from Ontario …thank you

  42. Dhamiri on June 24, 2022 at 5:24 pm

Really appreciated the intro and hearing about your experience, for someone trying to transition in to industry was very insightful. As for the community most want the last word or to think their method is the best. However not to worry in the end of the day for this plant the science of the soil is everything next to light, your doing the right thing and good for you for finding the confidence to make the video because we need more personable videos sharing knowledge and experience out of Canada for current users and future on all topics regarding cannabis. and a side note it seems all plants on earth grow in living organic soil, even water plants there is no foam piece keeping the plants upright so the roots can float in the water, its great there is so many ways to grow but natural is probably best like in a jungle forest or oasis also hydro when done with integrity.

  43. D's Canadian Outdoors on June 24, 2022 at 5:25 pm

Appreciate the info. Last few seasons growing outdoors here in Ontario I’ve found the most complicated part of growing is dealing with PM, soil biology definitely plays a huge factor, genetics too.

  44. ChelseaMay on June 24, 2022 at 5:25 pm

Love this video and I’m looking forward to future videos explaining the way you prune the plants

  45. Anthony Celano on June 24, 2022 at 5:27 pm

Totally agree that a lot of times people overthink growing cannabis. I also think there’s too much emphasis on the kinds of soils you can buy out there but that’s just my opinion. Awesome video hope you have more.

  46. Vic Lar on June 24, 2022 at 5:29 pm

Shut up ur awesome grow some balls cutie girl 😉😚

  47. Tayusz on June 24, 2022 at 5:29 pm

great vid.. would love to see a more specific video on how to control the trimming to teach the plant what to do for better flowering 🙂

  48. Matthew Hawkins on June 24, 2022 at 5:29 pm

I’m growing in quite a bit bigger pots than 5 gallons but I’m in Southern California and I have a long growing season so hopefully it works out! Great video! So if growing organic do you recommend amending soil with compost? I’d like a video on organic soil for growing cannabis in detail seeing as you are a expert on soil! I’m subscribing and hope to see more videos on soil and cannabis!

  49. 420 Troll on June 24, 2022 at 5:30 pm

best grow medium: 50% peat moss, 50% vermiculite plus some dolomite lime and gypsum. then feed ’em with miracle gro mixed with h2o until EC = 1.3. profit.

  50. Darcy Potter Potter on June 24, 2022 at 5:32 pm

when you have 3 nodes top then take clone and put that clone directly into a 12-12 light cycle it will force the clone to flower and you will see the pre flower sex show fast and this lets you sex the mother plant so you do not waste time growing out a male
