How To Grow Huge Autoflower Plants! (Garden Talk Episode #20)

In this episode of Garden Talk, I interview Dr. Autoflower. He has been gardening for 13 years and grows a variety of plants such as tomatoes, herbs, peas, carrots, lettuce, and medicinal plants. In this episode I pick his brain to find out what he does when he grows autoflowers and what he does to maximize yield. What plants do you like to grow? Lettuce, tomatoes, kale, bok choy, carrots, peppers, let us know in the comments section below. If you enjoyed this video please click that thumbs up button 🙂

Green House Powder Feeding short Flowering is also great for autoflower growing.

  4. sensibill1 on September 2, 2023 at 8:17 pm

Using sensi bloom 2 part I find 1/10 of recommended works well for me with autoflowers

  5. Alpha916 on September 2, 2023 at 8:19 pm

In Northern California a 5 gal pot you would have to sit there all day watering the pot Lol

  6. grow king on September 2, 2023 at 8:21 pm

I top mine an it went well

First autoflower I grew was from a free seed, and I was experimenting with DWC at the time, so I started it in a rockwool cube (which meant no transplanting). My container was too small, so I had to add water often, which meant there were almost certainly swings in the pH and PPM. I got seriously slimy roots at one point, so I had to drain my container and awkwardly rinse them twice, plus I added Sensizyme (sp?) to "eat" organic debris in the root zone. In the end, I got over 100g in a 2.5ft x 1ft space under 3ft shop lights. Not bad for a shelf grow using less that 85 watts. Anyway, I do think that the hydroponic delivery of nutrients and no transplanting meant there was nothing to slow down or stunt early growth.

Here’s a auto transplant hack, start them in the small, biodegradable pot. Grow until it gets 8 leaves, drill a bunch of holes in bottom, then plant into your 3-5 pot. Works like a charm everytime, plant doesn’t realized it’s been transplanted…never gets shock. As it grows the roots shoot out the holes you made into the new growing medium. And the cardboard disenegrates

When i started growing used to have every nute bottle there was, now only base nutrients and cal mag. And pk. Kiss is the way here In Finland 🙂

I totally skipped the early LED days, since I was such a small time grower and had a unrealistic fear of fire, I made my own CFL light.
Perfect for Grow, but it SUCKS for Flower haha!
My first LED was Spectrolight and it’s super awesome!

Finally a guy that debunked half of the insane BS details that I’ve seen some of these guys do. I watched a bunch of grow videos just for the entertainment value, I mean really. I watched this one guy micromanaging every single aspect of everything throughout a grow, and all I could think is… Wow, what a waste of time. You’re not growing the plants… You’re pleasuring them lol.😃

  13. Thordendal on September 2, 2023 at 8:27 pm

First 3 weeks 40% – 50% humidity? How does he call himself? You need to have everything on point to grow loud, potent and rock hard autos … especially autos. The overall quality of your endproduct WILL BE LOWERED! Dont fear high humidity in your grow tent. If you vent constantly and have an alltime airflow right above your plants your fine. Happy growing bois!

  14. Don Wheeler on September 2, 2023 at 8:28 pm

I tried transplanting a clone from solo cup to 3 gallon pots and immediately acquired nutrient problems. I asked the girl who works at Andersons garden store and she said that the problem is that all the water and nutrients gravitate towards the bottom and the roots on a young plant are still near the top. So I transplanted them into the next size up (6”) and haven’t had any more issues. So my question is how did you get around this problem? Anybody…?

  15. AngryPepperFPV on September 2, 2023 at 8:28 pm

In the first 20 minutes. The Dr hasn’t given any good info. I dont think I’ll e following him

  16. Chris Lowry on September 2, 2023 at 8:29 pm

I’ve used so many nutrients and advanced nutrients wins hands down! Not having to ph especially in hydro is amazing

Autoflowers are cute but photos ps are king. The simple fact that autoflowers are unclonable is redundant and counter productive.

  21. Brian Barszcz on September 2, 2023 at 8:37 pm

Not bad, but what about organics and autos? Advanced nutrients are salty products. No mention here of soil layering; a food free soil on top, like roots organic, and a supersoil on the bottom third of the pot.😊

  22. Rob Green on September 2, 2023 at 8:39 pm

I found topping was decent with plants in smaller pots and not so much space. but when i used a large pot it wasnt worth it.

Mah Dude keeps repeating, "I keep it simple, I use the K.I.S.S method." Proceeds to list off over 20 different additives/chemicals/nutes in a very involved process. What part of using so many additives/chemicals/nutes is keeping it simple?

I don’t know. The temperature thing is different inside as apposed to outside. 90° + is not really a problem outside here in Michigan. The cool nights at the end of flowering photo period cultivars can increase bud rot. Everything grows like a weed here if it gets water. This 50% humidity is not too bad, but powder mildew can be a factor.

  34. Peter Myers on September 2, 2023 at 8:51 pm

Why does everyone think denser harder buds are better? That’s how hydroponics grow. Autoflowers grow lovely fluffy huge buds, just let them grow. Opinions vary

Where tf does this guy live that he can’t get access to very basic gardening supplies

MR CANUCKS WHY I GOT INTO GROWING HE KNOWS HIS STUFG

  38. Stephen Dasher on September 2, 2023 at 8:59 pm

For the record…..i use the fix farm dirty dizen but only caue eit was on sale lol. I loterally immediately removed 4 of the bottles and use them for my roses and sruff oitside. As for the rest you dontnuse them in all stages of growth and if follow thwir feedimg schedule (not thebone on the back of the bottle!) Then you ise very little of it and not very oftem at all. Fornlessnthan $100 i jave enough fertilizer to go theough atnleadt 6 or 7 runs easily. So if you’re using thisnproduct ajd your going theough tjem in or, 2 or 3 grows then you’re definitely using to much.

  39. Angie on September 2, 2023 at 9:06 pm
