Welcome to The Naked Hog Homestead! We are a family of six working hard to get a market garden going and raising small farm animals. We believe in a balanced approach to farming, focused more on successfully gardening and raising farm animals than getting caught up on if everything is perfect. We do some things great and others we completely miss the mark but we learn and grow together as the Naked Hog Family! Join us as we share our adventures in homesteading with you! If you have any questions or thoughts be sure to leave a comment or message us!

Waiting to hear how the garden turned out after the hard freeze.
I wonder if a cooler would work? I have some good coolers we no longer use.
Going to get me a Brooke freezer!!!
Some days, I feel our garden is huge…and then we see your garden 😂
Where did you get your Satsuma trees? I’m looking to get some for my son. (Only fruit he will eat) and we are we planting fruit trees of everyone in the family’s choice.
It should be pretty easy to dig a small draining ditch, via French drain or gravel ditch, to lead the water away across the middle garden plot path for the most affected areas.
Waiting to hear how the garden turned out after the hard freeze. Here in north central/east Texas we hit a low of -5 degrees. Because I was behind and because of rain I didn’t have anything planted, including onions, which were really late getting in. Frankly, glad I didn’t have anything in the garden then since we would have lost it all. I had peppers just starting to germinate and they were beginning to pop up nicely when all this hit, and we lost electricity for most of two days. The temp got down to the mid to low 30’s where I had them under grow lights and a heat mat. The ones that were up survived but they look stunted to me, a few more came up after we got heat, but quite a few never germinated or died while germinating in the cold. Hope your cool weather plantings didn’t get too bad a hit.
What would the hi -lo temperature range be?
Wes, I started some tomatoes and peppers on Friday. I have my heat mat set at 80. Is that about right, or should I adjust? Another unrelated question; what part of Louisiana are you located? I was stationed in the early 80s in Alexandria, at England AFB. I have considered Lousiana a second home for a long time. Thanks for your videos.
Did everything make it? Hope you didn’t lost much!
Wes, did you run an extension cord down inside the freezer into the crock? And if so did the freezer seal shut?
Hoss said to check you out. love the content.
Over here from The Cogg Squad…… Where are you????
What zone?
Oh my goodness, I am GLAD that weather moved on! Most of my poor chicken yard was a muddy mess! I also lost all my broccoli and some of my cabbage. And thanks for the tips on the germ chamber! We’ll be looking into that!
You’re channel was suggested by Cog Hill. Can’t wait to see more.
