How To Top or FIM A Cannabis Plant – Topping Guide
How To Top or FIM A Cannabis Plant – Topping Guide
On today’s show…from early 2017 – I teach you two common yield-boosting tactics Cannabis growers use: Topping and FIMing which are different sets of moves that achieve more top-colas on a plant. I personally more enjoy LST (los-stress-training) method, which I link to further below.

This is my 1st grow I only have one plant Should I even try topping
Thanks For the information now I’m going to do it on 4 of the plants I harvested from the seeds…Keep up the good work👍
What’s best for auto’s
I like the idea on bending question if I have another pot could it be possible to bend a limb to that soil and bury some of the limb to get more roots and make the plant grow bigger 1 plant becomes 4 ?
Thanks my guy I’m growing autoflower sour D
I need help with my plant :/ Can I send someone a picture to help me please 😔
couldnt stand the dudes voice so i gotta find another video sorry
Kudos Lex, one question if/when you find the time to answer –
I came across an information that the moment you top, the tap root stops growing down and starts to branch out into hairs, so the Idea is to top LATER in veg, because of that, to have a bigger root system established prior to branching out.
What are your thoughts on this?
Me personally, I always top early, about 15 days from seed (so that’s around third, fourth nod) and never had an issue (though I use fabric pots, so I guess roots are branching into hairs and air pruning either way)- but that’s the thing, never tried it any other way, and this hypothesis seems plausible to an extent…
What if you go the other way and keep the top and cutting off the lower limbs to get one big bud???
Thanks for the teaching. These videos are just so complete this is amazing !
Gracias hermano, desde Venezuela
Trying to turn 2 into 4 so far the plant is sturdy and having one stem each side i topped recently (even tho there wasnt stems) im noticing its growing on leaf instead of the middle/center as it did before
No don’t do all that labor. Topping doesn’t stress nothing stop it. Well if your plants are shitty looking snd sick of course. My plants are so healthy hell I top them and 5 days later KAZAAM. Shit looks like JungaMunga
This video was so helpfull im new in plants…(ALL AK-47)so i did one plant on there own and another one on…toping and lst and 2 more on fiming and lst…4 plants in total which are outdoors in my backyard …the 2 which i fimed they got the most growth and thats probably the way im planning to do for a pretty long time for now and so on…the 2 fimed and lst’d got pretty masiive AND GOT 853 grams out of and the other 736 grams…the one on there own got 184 grams….and the one topped and lst’d got 674 grams……fimming plus lst really worked so well for me…thx for the educating video love u m8…much love from canada
This is what i like about your videos because you show pictures. a lot of people just talk and talk and i don’t understand. so, thank you for that

Can you top the plant and then FIM the new growths after that?
Dang………In the last few days while "topping" my pepper plants, I accidentally "FIM"ed. This morning I noticed the goof and trimmed off the FIM. Whoops…….!!!!! On to cannabis…….Will "top" a couple and FIM a couple……..and see how they shape up. Thanks for the video.
Following an impulse, I just topped my plant after I saw the 2nd level of 5 pointed leaves which were about quarter sized. I took the growth coming out between them off, but there were no new shoots yet. Hopefully those small 5 pointers will turn into their own robust branches. If so, perhaps I’ve discovered a new technique in which the branches get their resource allocation boost after the top leaves are more firmly established.
Finally, somebody making an informative video that isn’t stoned and talking a lot of smack
2:53 LST?
I enjoy doing a lot of topping and lots of super cropping or LST
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Excellent work, fantastic video.
traducido al español lo entiendo gracias y soy felis
What I do is called power budding. 1 inch below what you said to cut , I just squeeze and crush the crisol on the inside and the same thing happens without losing hormones . Thanks, would love to buy a shirt 3x. Lol
Thank you soo much. Awesome tutorial. Very easy to follow, love having the pictures showing the steps in detail.
Great video, thank you
Anyone else find yourself repeating what he says just to imitate his accent

Thanks man
Thank you lex
Thanks man been doing this for years. Was good to see some “science “ behind it.
I just typed mine and it looks exactly how the picture looks at 1.16
Thank you Lex😂
Question: How long after topping does it take for the two new shoots to grow? Thanks from Ontario 🇨🇦
There Outdoor btw.
Good information, and wondering is you can offer your best suggestion for my issue. I have two mature 5 month vegging plants that are in a grow tent approx 3x3x5, and they are way too tall by now to flower cause they are up to the light. Is it possible to severely shorten the branches to bring the height down a foot or more, if I give it plenty of time to heal and regenerate? Then put it to flower?
You sound similar to fpsrussia
Hey I have more questions
My dog just topped 3 of my diesel plants for me! 🙂 then I will top a couple and bend the rest sideways
Can I cut off my 3 lower nodes a few days after topping? Or should I wait longer
Let me try it.
…… your ending was very confusing. It appears as if you think that you have to choose between hst or lst rather than (which is actually the case and produces the largest yields) it being hst AND lst’ing the new growth…. Are you not aware that it’s most effective and produces the highest quality to do both? Not doing HST of fimming and topping, even on autos, is just a foolish way to decrease overall yields. It HAS to be after the 3rd node and before the 4th though. Anything higher than the 4th runs the risk of possibly stunting and should therefore be avoided on autos since they have significantly limited recovery time.
3:10 bro, did you forget the link?
Cool – Thanks
i practiced topping whenever i would have a male plant i would put it way in the back yard and experiment now im comfortable topping the female plants. but fiming i haven’t heard of yet.
thanks Lex.. as always, to the point and super helpful..
Best straight forward vid. Clear graphics of where to cut. You saved me from cutting the grow tips
