Hi Tikki! I’ve only found your channel recently but am really enjoying it. I just started the Kratky method last year so I love seeing everything you do with that, and with the other methods you use. Keep up the great work!

As someone who has been using a DWC system for 40 years; this is a really good video for beginners. The only thing I would add here is you can buy battery powered air pumps in case of a power failure that lasts more then a day. Or you can take some of the water out of the bucket; put it in a gallon milk container; shake it to mix air with the water, and then put it back in the bucket!

Hello Tikki, i was wondering if it is possible to grow two different veggies in the same deep water container. say cucumber and bell pepper. i see that they make good companions in soil but what about in hydroponics ? thank you

  14. Debra Wahlstrom on September 26, 2023 at 10:02 pm

one additional tip ive learned is to mix the fertilizer solution in a separate gallon container and use that to top off the DWC system, that way the fertilizer solution stays consistent and theres no fluctuation or risk of burn.

Easiest way to know if you need to add water is having a reservoir container and have all your hydro buckets connected together with tubing going from container to container and use a circulation pump. The reservoir bucket needs to be the same height as the main growing buckets and will be in sequence and it will have a clear 1/2 inch tube connected to the bottom of your reservoir bucket 🪣 with an elbow, now this tube is cut to the length of the height of the reservoir. The reason for the tube is to allow you to always know the height of the water in your system and the reservoir bucket allows you to add water to your system without having to disturb your growing buckets. The other advantages of the reservoir is it allows you to check your systems chemistry and also for adding pre fertilized water without disturbing your main growing buckets.

very informative, system was well explained

  35. oh boy on September 26, 2023 at 10:22 pm

Use an ec meter when topping up your water. Find out what ec the plants you’re growing like, then dilute or add nutrients as needed. If you don’t do that you’re just guessing what the nutrient level is in your water.

  36. Tan R2 on September 26, 2023 at 10:22 pm

  47. sheri 0 on September 26, 2023 at 10:38 pm

Have you ever tried a hydroponic method for large veggies or fruit, like zucchini squash or cantaloupe in a large container such as a big tote box or trash can?  I would like to try that in the Kratky method this spring and summer.  It would sure save me from  a lot of digging.  I’ve grown lettuce and cherry tomatoes in mason jars Kratky style, but nothing big before.  Thanks for the video, Tikki.
