Kratky Vs DWC Hydroponics Competition- Which One Is Better?

Kratky Vs DWC Hydroponics Competition- Which One Is Better?

Which hydroponic method is better? I had to test for myself since I’ve tried both methods in the past. This year I plant on trying out more hydroponics suck I want to know what is the best way to make that happen

Great project but stistically, all you are doing is comparing one bucket to another. To represent either metod, you may want to include at least 3 replicates for each method, 6 buckets all together.

    niceee

  3. @munkkitykki5793 on February 15, 2024 at 6:25 am

Nice video. Lot of mistakes. Dont use wood. Gets wet and moldy. Airstone look like you find it from trash bin. Clean it. Get another one and but them both in bucket. Led is way too close. Maybe 40cm could be closer the right height. Why you just dont make right size hole for netpot? First make it way too big and then stuff if with some raimbow pride leftovers. Good luck and may the grow gods be with you. Amen 😂

So what was the results after 7 months??

    Which one was better

  8. @lorae7 on February 15, 2024 at 6:29 am

    What about the pool
Noodle and being non food grade? Do you think toxins leach into the plant?

  9. @user-yq2il8ed7p on February 15, 2024 at 6:31 am

what did you put in the net cup with the roots?

  10. @danielpinedo8289 on February 15, 2024 at 6:34 am

I fell into a long rabbit hole on this exact comparison. How did this version work out?

  11. @blessisrael6455 on February 15, 2024 at 6:35 am

    I use pool noodles and wondered what the purpose of net cups are for, as I use a taller thicker noodle to hold everything in place; also, I noticed what looks like a kale plant that you have on the left side of the video with an irrigation system attached;

I’m very interested in what that is, and how you made it. I’m trying to figure out how to do a flow system too, as I’m newer to hydroponics I’m trying to learn all the equipment that goes along with it, as it can be very complicated; thanks ! ; )

I’m starting more kratky plants 🤓 I’ve been running DWC and ready for a break, thanks for sharing!

its been over 5 months what are the results?

  14. @wesleysmith995 on February 15, 2024 at 6:37 am

    Get away netcup.

  15. @wesleysmith995 on February 15, 2024 at 6:37 am

Only use pool noodles, cut a split in noodles. Adjust for plant stem size and Adjust height in water. If you have nutrients right. You should be good to go. Change nutrients every few weeks

  16. @Jason-sn2tc on February 15, 2024 at 6:39 am

    Is there a result video???

    to stay sober this works

  28. @clintjackson9778 on February 15, 2024 at 6:53 am

Is there a need to refill the buckets so that the roots always get water?

  29. @dickwright7702 on February 15, 2024 at 6:56 am

Also, all the vid’s I,ve watched add calcium and epsom salt to the hydro mix you used.

For a person on the spectrum she sure is outgoing. Like really outgoing.

  33. @lastuvthe on February 15, 2024 at 7:02 am

Don’t mean to be a jerk, but there are so many things wrong with your experiment. First the roots should be contained in pure darkness – any light that gets in to your nutrient solution is going to cause all kinds of problems with pests and algae. In nature, roots are usually underground, meaning in darkness, and I guarantee those buckets, especially the white one, are leaking light through them. When the bucket is empty, hold up a flashlight to the side, you will see light going through the plastic and should paint or cover it with something. Second, I didn’t hear you reference anything about the PH or your nutrient solution. Plants can only feed certain nutrients at certain PH levels, which is why you want a "swing" or window of the PH levels you are targeting. The other thing you missed was your water temps. Incredibly important to any successful grow and preventing root rot. The higher the temp, the more chance your plants will be stunted and the roots will turn from white to brown as they start to rot.

  34. @kekaharris6618 on February 15, 2024 at 7:02 am

First make sure your babies are not getting soaked by the bubbles to much or by over filling kratky is still so it’s not agitated by bubbles and there for are less susceptible to oxygen dep put the water a bit lower ❤

  35. @youtubetruthlife4750 on February 15, 2024 at 7:02 am

I love Kratky. Just set it up correctly, then you can forget about it for some months. Then just pick fruits every day. The better you set it up, the more fruits. I usually dont want to waste my precious time on doing plant work, but I might trim the plants once a month just to get better results. I have gotten 4kg tomatoes, 1.4kg peppers, 2kg cucumbers in the first try. It takes minutes to set up and then with some decent lights u will be good. I hope to be able to get the value I spent on lights and tent back from harvesting fruits.

    Incomplete video

  37. @DMPB-fi2ir on February 15, 2024 at 7:05 am

A bubbler in water only circulates the water for a very slight better water to air O2 exchange at surface ,the bubbles themselves will not impart any O2 to the water of measurable amount, and your headspace for O2 exchange is not adequate. in either, bucket and a bubbler will not have any marked improvement with as small a surface area as you provide in a 2 gallon bucket surface area. bubbles in dwc do not solve issues it the airs space so the roots can take up O2 from the air as it enter you would gain more from an air vent ducted to a small computer fan pushing air in to flow across the roots to supply the roots with O2 and this air flow will do the same surface exchange as a bubbler.

The bucket color density will also impart a mismatch in light penetration to the grow nutrient solution and the tops wont seal proper to keep light from possibly causing algae growth which will affect comparison results.

Get away from using the pool noodles the chemicals used to make some can hinder plant growth use the full net pot get plant growing grade rock wool like grodan rockwool from amazon or rock wool grow plugs ( not insulation grade rockwool that contains chemicals to stop mold mildew and fungus growth and fire retardants ) the seal the top surface with some painters tape and poke a hole to plant seed. You negate the use of the net pot in way you plants , if you want a support and insist on pool noodle prestart you plants in water cut your pool noodle about an inch thick ring and cut a slit from edge to center , open center slip plant in so roots hang down and use a hole saw to cut a hole in that will hold pool noodle firm in place without crushing root , or get a cork mate cut a slit and a small hole in center to put seedlings in and places in hole in lid or a non toxic organic latex foam

Air pumps do not add O2 to the water because of the bubbles. It is the agitation or breaking of the surface tension of the water that adds oxygen To ensure that your plants have enough oxygen to breathe, you need to get bubbles to agitation the surface to dissolve plenty of oxygen in the water. You can use aquarium power heads instead of air pumps todo the same agitation

  38. @nicholasreeves5260 on February 15, 2024 at 7:07 am

Need to use the same buckets black preferably the white will light leak creating algae.

  39. @ankitagarwal5926 on February 15, 2024 at 7:09 am

    Results?

  40. @GMT439 on February 15, 2024 at 7:10 am

DWC is obviously better the root zone gets loads more oxygen.

  41. @user-uv9pp2id9k on February 15, 2024 at 7:10 am

What were your results? p.s. I also use gardening as a form of therapy for a variety of mental health stuff, and I have not 1 but 2 calicos. One’s name is Strawberry, the other is Shortcake. 🙂

  42. @megaflux7144 on February 15, 2024 at 7:10 am

ok.. first if you saw it on toktok it was idiocy. kratky CANT outperform dwc, the ONLY advantage it has is laziness (since you dont have to use electricity). theres no need to use netcups AND pool noodles, you can just hold the plant in the pool noodle (wtf..noodle AND netcup AND noodle? no). never use white buckets for hydro, light goes through and it produces algae… then again you are using contaminated water anyways if youre using rain water with giant light gaps in the lid. thats too much water, theres supposed to be 1-3 inch gap under net cup. thats not near enough bubbles for dwc, get a bigger stone and use both outputs with a Y connector to the bigger stone. there should be a boiling looking effect where none of the water is resting. im guessing theres no results here because you got root rot and killed them.

Hi, love ypur video. Can you use the kratky set up outside in diredt sunlight?I tried my first kratky bucket, but the water turned green after 1 month. I use a white but and sealed lid. I have it outside on direct sunlight.
I kook forward to your advise.
    Thanks
