00:00 Hello Everyone!

The 2023 FIDE World Chess Championship is a 14-game match taking place in the St. Regis Astana Hotel in Astana, Kazakhstan on April 9-30 between Ian Nepomniachtchi and Ding Liren, who finished 1st and 2nd in the 2022 Candidates Tournament. Reigning World Champion Magnus Carlsen has chosen not to defend his title. The first player to reach 7.5 points wins, while a 7:7 tie will be decided by a playoff. The prize fund is €2 million, split 60:40, or 55:45 if it goes to a playoff. No draw offers are allowed until after move 40.

Each player has 120 minutes for 40 moves, then 60 minutes for the next 20, then 15 minutes to the end of the game, with a 30-second increment starting only from move 61. A playoff will consist of four 25-minute games, with a 10-second increment from move 1. If still tied, up to two pairs of 5+3 games will be played. If tied again, single 3+2 games are played, with colours reversed each game, until one player wins.

Next : Gukesh, Arjun and Pragg coming for the title.
Next to Next: One of them actually winning it. Likely to be Arjun or Gukesh. Or even Nihal. But Arjun most likely.

no one could ask for a better enDING!!!!

  3. Rathinavelu Thiruvenkatam on May 1, 2023 at 6:51 am

Ding was very economical in his wins. He won only when it mattered!

  4. Douglas Christiansen on May 1, 2023 at 6:51 am

Saw a lot of reviews and commentaries of this championship. This channel is by far the best! Thank you!

  5. The Tony on May 1, 2023 at 6:52 am

Well done Ding and most especially China 🇨🇳 they’ve accomplished a lot and contributed a lot to world over the last years and now they’ve given us a worthy Classical Champion.

Thank you Ding for an enjoyable world championship and well done China 🥇👍🫡🇨🇳 #worldDomination

Neither of theseguys deserve to be called World Champion. But lollllllllllllllll at Nepo still collapsing at the end even without Magnus in his way.

Who’s ready for tears of the kingdom?

  9. WhirlWolf on May 1, 2023 at 6:55 am

I desperately want to remind everyone of my comment on game 4! 🥳

  10. B.J.A.M. Peters on May 1, 2023 at 6:57 am

The one who is ‘self-pinning for immortality’ is Ding Liren and NOT Carlsen. This title (even though Carlsen said this) is absurd and does not do justice to the new world champion..

  11. Jihoon Nam on May 1, 2023 at 6:57 am

I get that Magnus made the quote but it’s a video about someone else becoming the WC so idk why you would put Magnus as a thumbnail & title..

  12. Nafizul Sanko on May 1, 2023 at 7:00 am

You lied there’s no Magnus Carlsen. His in thumbnail. The title and picture was so good.

  13. Walmart Golem on May 1, 2023 at 7:02 am

What this championship demonstrated is how much better a player Magnus is compared to everybody else.

  14. swampwiz on May 1, 2023 at 7:02 am

    DING-DONG!

Whenever Dings Pawns March, its danger time

  17. Burst Your Bubble on May 1, 2023 at 7:06 am

it’s annoying because it’s not like ding outplayed nepo and eventually grinded him down. that would have been one thing. but nepo consistently outplayed ding throughout classical and then got unlucky in rapid.

  18. Frank Geeek on May 1, 2023 at 7:09 am

What Faces is Nepo making now he lost Word Championship? Shit Face?

  19. AJ on May 1, 2023 at 7:09 am

Now every super gm will think they can become next world champion . Becoming a Micky Mouse title unless The GOAT contends!

  20. Drew Smithson on May 1, 2023 at 7:11 am

Anyone else feel like its a hollow championship without Magnus? If Magnus retired from chess than that’s ok, but he didnt retire, he basically said that hes tried of winning against the same people over and over so hes bored. Hes got a point.

And what about ratings? Kind of hilarious that the World Champion is rated less than guy actively playing. The wholen thing just seems less special. They should do the Championship every 4 years. Like a world cup of chess type deal.

  21. Victor Dercksen on May 1, 2023 at 7:14 am

I really like Ding and I am so glad he won.

But Magnus would have dismantled either one of them. It wouldn’t even have been close. But congratulations to Ding. He is a very good ambassador.

  22. B.J.A.M. Peters on May 1, 2023 at 7:15 am

Even this picture is really ridiculous. Ding has become WC, not Carlsen! What is this? Ding’s picture should be here!

  23. Tom Jones on May 1, 2023 at 7:16 am

Calling someone world champion because they won a speed chess game is not the traditional meaning of world chess champion. They have basically won a match series on a tie break, which is not the classical definition of a world champion. I get that it provides great entertainment and a world title, which is a common practice in a lot of modern sports, but it does not mean they are the strongest player in the world, which is the traditional meaning in chess. I prefer it this way. Kinda like winning the super bowl.

  24. Brooke Watson on May 1, 2023 at 7:18 am

great coverage all the way through thank you – and congrats to Ding for courage under fire

  25. Michael Bowles on May 1, 2023 at 7:18 am

Love your channel. So many thanks for the amazing coverage

  26. tyrell wreleck on May 1, 2023 at 7:19 am

    4:56 what a tease lol

  27. Dan Danz on May 1, 2023 at 7:20 am

    Congratulations!!! Ding!!!!!

  28. JFTL81 on May 1, 2023 at 7:24 am

What’s with that Magnus quote at top?

  29. Ken Chen on May 1, 2023 at 7:24 am

Quite fitting as Agad once characterized Ding as “I’m not afraid of anything” in a game vs Fabi.

  30. JSSTyger on May 1, 2023 at 7:26 am

World Champion Ding Liren played with 91.2% accuracy, 4 great moves, and 1 brilliant move.
Ian Nepomniachtchi played with 84.8% accuracy and 2 great moves.

  31. fallensummit on May 1, 2023 at 7:27 am

Idk how much publicity this will bring chess but I suppose that’s not the point…

  32. doone on May 1, 2023 at 7:27 am

at which point did ding gain the advantage? it would be great if you could quicky summarise critical positions at the end of the video

  33. Jan Carlo Oriña on May 1, 2023 at 7:27 am

I know we should be happy about Ding. But man. Nepo tried for the 3rd time. Now that magnuns step aside nepo still lost. Thats heartbreaking.

  34. Elijah H on May 1, 2023 at 7:32 am

Let’s go Ding! Risked it for the win and it paid off! Gutsy and brave!

  35. Chris Waudby on May 1, 2023 at 7:32 am

Brilliance right there. Well done ding😮

  36. Wardaddy on May 1, 2023 at 7:32 am

Almost all people just focus on the glory Ding had today..Am I the only one thinking of the great burden he has to face in the coming tournaments to prove himself the strongest chess player in the world?😅

  37. Sentinel-911 on May 1, 2023 at 7:34 am

If Nepo wanted a draw can he just suggest it to Ding? In fact, he left it to Ding to make it repetitious, ans Ding chose not to, as he has 2 pass pawns.

  38. Kleydson Ferreira de Almeida on May 1, 2023 at 7:34 am

Imagine if Magnus won the next candidates and become once again the world chess champion.

  39. Nobric on May 1, 2023 at 7:35 am

Great video as always Agad. Heartbroken for Nepo but rejoicing for Ding, who had to go through so much for this victory. I’ll definitely be sharing this game with my friends at the library.

  40. Eric on May 1, 2023 at 7:35 am

I wanted Ding to win, but now, after Nepo lost, I kinda wish Nepo would have won. It would be remarkable if next year he came back and beat Ding. Of course that assumes Magnus doesn’t come back. Either one would be a story for the ages.

  41. Samuel Pearlman on May 1, 2023 at 7:36 am

    *DING* fries are DONE!

  42. Chess Malayalam Global on May 1, 2023 at 7:40 am

Nepo should split FIDE to and declare himself as the world champion

  43. Rathinavelu Thiruvenkatam on May 1, 2023 at 7:41 am

Mr Nepo did not learn from his previous loss to Magnus nor from his victory in candidate match. Very unlikely to be ever a champion, which is a state of mind over matter.

  44. TH on May 1, 2023 at 7:41 am

10:26 What’s important here is Nepo was up 3 or 4 minutes on the clock at this point and he tanked for 2+ minutes to think about this reptition.

Ding played Rook G6 almost immediately and so after all was said and done Nepo had spent like 3 minutes and had 1 minute left and Ding had spent 15 seconds and had 90 seconds left.

  45. rosomak on May 1, 2023 at 7:42 am

It’s not a world champion if you don’t allow players for all the world to participate.

  46. Mark Johnson on May 1, 2023 at 7:44 am

Rapid is too fast too soon. I suggest they consider going to a faster time control after the "classic games" but not so fast as G30. Maybe 4 games of G90 with increments, and then 4 games of G60 etc.

  47. Sentinel-911 on May 1, 2023 at 7:44 am

Why Anand never re-match with Magnus Carlson after he lost? Did he?

  48. William J. York on May 1, 2023 at 7:45 am

    This is dings immortal.

  49. Polares on May 1, 2023 at 7:47 am

Is Magnus a little motivated now?! 😅
