Making hydroponic solutions

Making hydroponic solutions

A simple tired and trusted way to make hydroponic solution for growth of a variety of plants. Link to order calcium nitrate, https://campbellteaching.co.uk/calcinit/186/1kg-yara-calcinit-calcium-nitrate-fertilizer-15.5-0-0.

For hydroponic nutrient solutions I make everything up by volume, rather than weight. I add 15 mls of the calcinit (calcium nitrate) to 100 mls of warm water. This dissolves in the water. I then use this as my stock solution. I dilute this 1 part into 250 parts of water to give my final solution.

I then add the same concentration on NPK fertiliser with trace elements. That is, 15mls of NPK fertiliser dissolved in 100 mls of water used as a stock solution, added to the same 250 parts of water I have just added the calcium nitrate to.

I also add magnesium sulphate (Epsom salts). I make the stock solution up with 7.5 mls of epsom salts in 100 mls of water to give the stock solution, this is also added to the same 250 parts of water. Again, one volume of Epsom salts to the same 250 parts of water.

If you like you can mix the stock solutions of Epsom salts and NPK fertiliser. However, it is best not to mix the stock solution containing the calcium nitrate as it can precipitate. When they are all diluted in the 250 parts of water it is diluted enough not to precipitate, and it is fine.

I look forward to following you here as well.

Sir , how do you decide 15mls in 100 ml water and taking 4mls to make 1000 mls solution B and 15+7.5 mls in 100 ml water and taking 4 mls to to make 1000 mls solution. Is there any calculator or formula. I am new to this and learning to make my own solution at home. Please guide me, it will be quite helpful and will be so thankful. Also how to calculate, select nutrients/fertilizer for grees and flowering and fruiting plants.

15ml in 100ml , so for 4ml will = 15ml / 100= 0.6 so if you scale up to 1000ml will equal to a ratio of 0.6:1000ml or 0.6.ml: 1L. which is 60ml or 4 tbs to every 100L . my system is 400L so it will work out to 16 tbs …

  15. erich on November 28, 2022 at 12:34 am

I happen to do everything by mass – kitchen scale gets used multiple times of day, just how our household happens to work. I took your recipe and basically assumed that the NPK and Calcium Nitrate are 1:1 by mass, then made sure to use half as much epsom salts. I’ve introduced the nutrient blend to our NFT system today – keeping the EC around 1.0 because I’m waiting for some seedlings to catch up with the strawberry crowns.

Thanks for getting me started – I sincerely appreciate you sharing your knowledge!

    So it’s 15ml + 100ml water right..? Not 15 ml + water till 100ml total solution..?🤔

  26. muffdriver69 on November 28, 2022 at 12:50 am

Best explanation and howto ratio on Youtube ever for nutrient. But why ml? why not grams? I thought it was grams as each nutrient volume will have different density.

  27. Antonio Narciso on November 28, 2022 at 12:50 am

Hello Dr. Campbell! Glad to see you doing this video! I follow you in your Covid series. Very very informative. So I believe you got all this nutrient solution right! will try it tomorrow 4 June. Keep safe! God bless you!

    Wow,
I was shocked to see you there Dr. Campbell. I have been watching your other channel. It is by far the best on that subject. Now I must investigate this channel.
    Thanks for all your help.

Oh look its Dr. John Campbell, total sham of coronavirus, he was once a hydroponics expert before pretending to be a doctor (even though he’s a nurse): I wouldn’t trust him to make change for a dollar.

  30. Bonnie Mechefske on November 28, 2022 at 12:54 am

Whoa this is amazing! All of the other hydroponics videos just say – add the nutrients – like its a big secret ! Thank you for such a thorough yet concise explanation! Everything i needed in just a few minutes. Brilliant!

  31. Daphne Raven on November 28, 2022 at 12:56 am

Thanks very kindly, Dr Campbell!! This is simple enough that a person can do this, with things that are easy to find, even when other things are not so easy To find.

You’ll face judgement in your living, feeling flesh – for your treachery and traitory.

If you’re just a sad, lonely sellout – nothing to fear.

Any more insidious than that old son – it’s chop chop either way.

  33. EVE Growing on November 28, 2022 at 1:04 am

    WOW you do hydroponics too!!!

  34. Justin Sosa on November 28, 2022 at 1:04 am

  35. Kim Bui on November 28, 2022 at 1:06 am

Thanks for sharing all the details on the hydroponic, great explanation. So appreciate it!

  36. Paul Renzi on November 28, 2022 at 1:07 am

Can this be run though a UV filter without compromising the solution?

  37. IvoryPearl on November 28, 2022 at 1:09 am

    Are you John Campbell’s brother?

  38. G Y on November 28, 2022 at 1:11 am

  40. Marie Johnson on November 28, 2022 at 1:13 am

Thanks Dr. Campbell. I learn so much from you. Best video I’ve seen yet on mixing the solutions. I’m feeling very confident now.

  42. ricardo cimerman on November 28, 2022 at 1:14 am

1 ml is equl to how many grams?

  43. Larry Rabathaly on November 28, 2022 at 1:15 am

Would of been quite easier for the general utube audience if you would done it per gallon

  44. jakobion on November 28, 2022 at 1:15 am

Great video, finally someone explaining the rations and why. Not just "yeah I like to add this much for a container with this much yadda yadda yadda".
One question though, why did you add 4ml of both solutions. I was under the impression that A and B make up the stock solution, so you would add 4ml total, not 4ml from A and 4ml from B, which is then 8ml total. Thanks for the video!

  45. Don bar Fox on November 28, 2022 at 1:16 am

May i ask sir. What was the unit used in the glass of water and the spoon?

  46. yangtse55 on November 28, 2022 at 1:16 am

Going by your descent into COVID grift, I will stick to buying proper nutrients.
There appear to be no videos demonstrating their effectiveness – quelle surprise…

  47. neil long on November 28, 2022 at 1:17 am

Would this work in a normal green house on tomatoes and salads

  48. James Allred on November 28, 2022 at 1:17 am

  49. Ken Nguyen on November 28, 2022 at 1:17 am

Thank you so much. I am going to convert my basement into a hydroponic garden for year round vegies. I live in NE US and my basement is not heating so I have a problem there. I am thinking of investing in those indoor tents to keep the temp regulated. I have to try it out but this summer I am starting it outdoor. This is going to be fun. Thank you for your awesome vid. Most grateful.

I’ve messed around growing with these nutrients but found my way back to organic living soil just like the forest.
