Mother Plants & Cloning 101

Mother Plants & Cloning 101

“Want to get awesome yields?
Starting a mother plant and using her to make clones is what the best cannabis growers do. Using clones (or cuttings) shortens the time between harvests, and growing the same genetics over several indoor grows means that you get to know your plants’ needs perfectly.
What is a mother plant?
A mother plant is a female cannabis plant that is kept permanently in vegetative growth and used to take cuttings from for each consecutive flower cycle in your indoor grow room. Seeds from the same strain will possess slightly different genetic traits (genotypes), just like non-identical twins differ. That’s why it’s important to choose the best mother plant if you want success.
This video explains how to make mother plants and what to look for when picking a mother plant for clones. Making a list of desirable characteristics such as yield, ease of grow, smell, plant vitality makes it easier to select the best mother.

If I cross a female of one strain with a male of another will I get seeds that are both male and female ? If I then pot those seeds and take a cutting off each seeds and then decide at the end of flower which was the overall best to keep , can I then grow the clone of this plant and when it goes into flower add the pollen from the male parent to make feminised only seeds of this particular plant ? Your help would be greatly appreciated

So how to I actually establish a Mother Plant, physically make a mother? Is she a 2nd generation clone? Or is she a fully mature plant that has been harvested? Yes, I am clueless about the whole process, but we all started somewhere in the spectrum of knowledge about growing medicinal herb. I am at the beginning of my journey. Thanks for the help.

Ive kept my heavy duty fruity alive about 10 years now. I bloom my mother once or twice a year and make a new mother from cuttings. My cut is the stinkiest stickiest ive ever had. If you got a piece in your pocket…everybody knows.

I so wish to find a video that says, "step timer 1 Step number 2 your step number 3". Instead of trying to figure out what this guy is saying because with his mic all I hear is a bunch of mumbling.

How long does the mother plant have to be in veg before you can start to clone off of it?

Excellent video thank you. My question to you is making a mother plant from a clone ok to do? Am I going to get the same efforts from it as if it’s coming from a seedling? Tia

Grow Feminized Seeds – I make colloidal silver for cannabis and sell it to supplement my army retirement. I sell it cheep so growers can try it once before diving into making their own.  http://www.Catnews.org/weed

  19. Aaron Unrau on June 18, 2022 at 11:02 am

Hey I want to keep one or two different strains of mother plants but I am not sure how to keep them, what I mean is they just have to be in a room on their own with 100% light all the time so they don’t go into flowering?
Because when you want to take cuts 4 clones the mother plant needs to be in vegetation state is that correct?
    Thanks

How many clones can i take from a plant at one time

  30. growersguidetocannabis on June 18, 2022 at 11:18 am

Lol no I haven’t mate but it’s quite a contested subject
should you use a mother that can be grown from feminized seed
Just to perhaps add a quick thought from my point of you there is no problem to have a mother from a feminized seed however I’d be more careful (depending on what I’m looking for ) at using a femmes seed for breeding purposes in a breeding program

well i have to say what ive just seen is so confusing, you sound like the usual glouster farmer, you wear the shirt of a farmer, got the beard of a metal fan, wear the hat of a rapper or street kid, and the glasses of harry potter. My brain is so confused.

  34. Mr.eastcoast Grow on June 18, 2022 at 11:23 am

Good advice. He mentions a lot of things a lot of ppl leave out. When choosing strains finding ones that feed similarly is important. Generalizations on feedings over multiple diffrent strains is gonna always favor one strain over the others.

  35. Nicky Birchall on June 18, 2022 at 11:23 am

Do you have a video showing how to take cuttings

  36. Roger Baty II on June 18, 2022 at 11:24 am

Transitions were a little distracting, but I liked listening to you and the knowledge you could spout. I would suggest, instead of the fade transitions, use cutaway photograph examples, which will illustrate the points you are making, i.e. the labeling you spoke of. Keep it up!

Hello. I was growing some fast flowering indicate from seed but always required close to 7.5 weeks to Finnish flower. Can you recommend from your experience close to 6weeks flowering strain with decent yield? Thanks.

I have an 1981 skunk that has been clones for 40 years. Clone to mother to clone again and was fire for 25 yrs now it’s bottle necking. She does great in the sun. Like it used to. My oldest seeds are 10 yrs or so. And I don’t get very many females.and the ones I do get are weak. Is there anything I can do to get those traits back. I’ve been looking in to back crossing and out breeding. Any input is appreciated thanks 😊
