Netherlands trials legally cultivating cannabis for first time | BBC News
The Netherlands is starting a trial aimed at decriminalising the production and supply of cannabis.
The drug is being legally cultivated as part of a small experiment that could eventually be rolled out across the country.
The consumption of cannabis has long been allowed in the Netherlands, but the sale of the drug remains illegal, even though it is tolerated.
In the pilot, production will be limited to a handful of farms, whose cannabis will be closely monitored before it is supplied to coffee shops. The aim is to crack down on drug dealers and guarantee a high quality and safer product for consumers.

Always the rich..if they can control it..they are going to tax it..just wolves on the come back…
Done in Birmingham for sometime now!
🤣🤣🤣🤣
this is how it’s done!!!! no crap, no weird industry fakery like in the US, just quality products. thank you Netherlands! I’m sure that in Canada it’s very similar, but I mean it’s a first in Europe!
His look at the end says it all.
I wish of a world where alcohol was illegal and cannabis was legal 🙂
I want a job like you lot I can add another 40 yrs of experience if you employ me 😂
The uk needs to do the same it’ll bring in 1 billion minimum in the first year profit alone. Stop the bs and legalise it. It wa made illegal in 1933 because hemo costs less than paper to produce, they also though the guys back from ww1 had cannabis psychosis when in reality it was PTSD From what they had seen. Its about time the country actually Done the right thing for once have dedicated sports for it and legalise it with 3 plants at home but you must apply for a licence
We have scientifically known for many years that alcohol is neurotoxic and can cause brain damage and dementia. Cannabis should never of been made illegal in the first place. Give intelligent people the freedom to choose for themselves.
Talk about legally growing in the uk ffs
Good because maybe the quality will get good again like 25 to 20 years ago when weed was much better than today’s crap
So when is the uk going to catch up and allow people to as safely as possible consume cannabis without fear of punishment
This is a trap 🪤 stay away from any substance that is no regulated by government
2:36 keep your legal twigs and bush, rather smoke some loft tent special, courtesy of a friend
Ben Dronkers will be behind this, he’s already producing subsidized medical cannabis for Holland and other countries with Bedrocan, he was one of the few that went and collected landrace genetics in the 70’s and set up the Sensi seedbank. Nobody has done more in the cannabis space.
That Limon chullo right there my friends…. is THE tastiest Bud i have Ever smoked 😂❤
UK it or fuck off.
60 years too late. I would stick with organic private growers. I would never touch anything the government gets it’s hands in.
Uk needs to follow
and yet the uk stays in the past we always catch on to the rest of the world last
This is gonna defenitly fail. As a Dutchman i can confirm we dont want a government growing our weed. We whanna home grow it. And we will keep on growing. We did that for more than 4 some say 6 generations. We aint gonna stop doing just cause the government now grows. Why would we pay twice what we’re used to? Just for taxes? Hell no they already have to much taxes on weed. That’s why ‘illegal" growing and selling will continue. We will only get it legal if those prices are lower than the dealers price wich means the government needs to sell us 3 eu a gram weed. But that wont make them enough taxes. So forget this idea. Home growing will continue.
Get 5 years for this in the Whiskey Baron lead UK
"Eventual dicriminalisation" yeah right
The dutch have the worst weed for outrageous prices. Amsterdam is probably the worst place to buy weed in Europe.
Anna was definitely stoned before, during and after with the Dutch bald man. Great work BBC 👍 🇬🇧 🇳🇱
and years from now people will see how harmless cannabis really is
Brilliantly done. UK government, take notes. Fix our economy with one bill!! Legalise!
I live how the Dutch are making fun of Germany the way we can’t get our legalisation forward after two years of politicians working on it yet themselves just stopped half way and called it a day. What sense does this semi legalisation make? Great, they have dispenseries but they get their stuff illegally too and the ones providing the weed still are criminals in the books. And now after decades they only now start to move past that.
Moment of silence to all the growers imprisoned for doing this same thing.
Theyve lost their:
Right to rent or own house
Finances
Chances of ever getting a job
Freedom through imprisonment.
Oh well, i guess now the government can make money off it, its all okay now
i hope there have more than only 1g in a bag 😀

If you are looking to treat symptoms of a mental health condition I’d recommend psychedelics.
😂😂😂
About damn time! Grow up!
Doubt it’s the first ever been happening since the 80s
Looking at those flowers I can see it’s going to take you a good while to catch up bro 😂😂
And in my opinion, the entire EU and Great Britain could join next.
Feels good going to a dispensary down the street from me in Colorado, trust me Europe, it’s a good thing.
now we wait and see how good the cannabis is. legalization has negatively impacted the quality of cannabis in the US and UK due to how profit driven we are. for example, in the US there are entrepreneurs who don’t use cannabis in any capacity, yet they are in control of cannabis companies. let’s hope that a socialized democratic country does better than we did.
also, i know that germany recently legalized and some medical patients get their cannabis covered by insurance. I’m not sure the quality of germany’s legal cannabis. if anyone in the comment section has experience with germany’s cannabis before and after legalization, I would really appreciate your perspective on how legalization has impacted the quality in a good or bad way.
We shou🎉do the same in the uk it’s crazy that we can’t get cannabis from shops I give up because it was getting so hard to get an most of it was really poor.
I used it to help with my disabilities an pain now I’m back on all my medications from the hospital that makes me feel ill,I loved cannabis it helped loads but with all the hassle getting it I just gave up hunting for it.
Finally sheesh 😊
The most overwhelming example of government overreach and pure stupidity, was making cannabis a controlled substance and banning it at all. Government imbeciles could only come up with something so stupid.
They want to export it and get American money
Legal or not it’s widely grown and traded in the UK. Our government are very embarrassing
Psychedelics are just an exceptional mental health breakthrough. I remember several years ago I suffered from uncontrollable depression, anxiety, smoking, and illicit pill addiction until I was recommended psilocybin treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly, imagine carving heavy chains for over a decade, and then all of a sudden that burden is gone. I believe in a couple of years they’ll be all over for treatment of mental health-related issues.
man made hurdles of bureaucratic nonsense, to allow people to do what they have been doing for thousands of years. politics is a joke
Why is this British news
Yes UK government take note you bunch of useless tosspots
UK when? We grow it all the time yet we can’t smoke it. Gangs rule the streets selling it so remove the profit from them
UK Government and their pals can legally grow and sell cannabis, but if anyone else grows it, they get jailed, the UK is just another corrupt country, it just hides it better than others.
