Part 1: Reverse Osmosis vs Tap Water for Cloning – Which is faster?

Part 1: Reverse Osmosis vs Tap Water for Cloning – Which is faster?

Welcome to Part 1 of my Reverse Osmosis vs Dechlorinated Tap Water cloning comparison test! While there were some minor differences like lighting, strains, and aerocloner size, I wanted to see if Reverse Osmosis (0ppm, un-pH’d) water could beat out 48 hour dechlorinated tap water (also not pH’d) when it comes to cloning in my do it yourself aerocloners. I’d like to do a more controlled test in the next video, but this should give you a good idea of which throws roots faster! While I didn’t mention it in the video, I did use CloneX cloning gel and solution during this process. I will cover it with a scripted video better in the next run. Thanks for watching!

hey fregrowli. been with u for months now 1st comment! love the channel. heard u on roundtable talking about how u needed 2 make sure u had 2lb a light situations 2 stay in ur groove and not only did it hit home it got me thinking. could you give any strain suggestions on some high yielding but still potent strains. been running a little of everything and wanted 2 test out some more.dont have time or room 2 run reg beans right now and where I live the clone game has just started and hasn’t built up much steam yet any suggestions? I’m trying 2 get a good gg4 cut right now but figured I would ask a pro b4 stumbled thru another year of searching

Hey Buddy, Video was Bad Ass Man and that’s a Good Idea with the 2in. Net Cups !!!!!!! Thanks

  4. @stevemonroe8850 on March 16, 2024 at 8:05 am

if the lights are different, the experiment isn’t valid

  5. @growrealuh5481 on March 16, 2024 at 8:11 am

nice, I’d like to see another round with the lights switched around just to see how much the light plays a role

  6. @skipperdaripper2164 on March 16, 2024 at 8:12 am

    How did.you dechlorinate the water?

  7. @cultiveseuremedio692 on March 16, 2024 at 8:13 am

What is this box called, and does this system have any manual that teaches you to do the same? Where I can buy?

  8. @oldmangrows9972 on March 16, 2024 at 8:18 am

Good comparison, need to o with ro.

  9. @jefferymooney1430 on March 16, 2024 at 8:18 am

    great video @fregrowli

  10. @chrisfuller9077 on March 16, 2024 at 8:18 am

i wonder if you dont use ro you can buy a water filter jug.?..i believe they are just the same as ro filters but without the uv etc…and cheaper if not wanting a big setup..? the filter jug i use for drinking tap water does a similar job on a much smaller scale..ok its not perfect but surely as good as de chlorinated and without the wait..just a thought.

Do the neoprene plugs make a difference? What’s the best place to get them?

  12. @joshua_irving93 on March 16, 2024 at 8:23 am

thanks This video helped allot, I’ve cloned plenty of times before but the new area I’m in has well water, that’s obviously a no go lol, and after doing some reading I was scared to use ro water, but thanks to your experiment video I used the ro water and had success!

  13. @RimmPurple on March 16, 2024 at 8:24 am

    nice ! cheers !

    Right on FREGROWLI ! …a picture ( or side-by-side clip, in this case ) is worth 1,000 words,…Thanks, …as always & #GROWERSLOVE!

  16. @misterjohnson4402 on March 16, 2024 at 8:28 am

What’s up Fregrowli? I know this is an older vid/series, but now that I have a brand new, “OXYCLONER” sitting in its box. I can’t keep looking at it everyday. Lol. How much of a difference is there (in your opinion) between an Aerocloner and Oxycloner? I don’t have any Watermax, UC Roots, etc.. I’d like to give it a go anyways, though (it’s worth it). Lol.

    Thanks, Bro!! 🙏🏽🙏🏽

RO! The video was so good I watched it twice. 🙂

  19. @stevemonroe8850 on March 16, 2024 at 8:33 am

if the lights are different, the experiment isn’t valid

  20. @miamiheights2651 on March 16, 2024 at 8:35 am

Nice.. I’d like to see this done again with all variables the same especially strain. Interestingly I always have better luck with straight tap in the cloner with a couple hundred ppm’s of Jack’s Hydro and CalNit. Also I’d really like to hear opinions on cloning gels and solutions and whether they’re necessary. I’m still a bit fuzzy around that area… Thanks buddy

  21. @rootballrandy8704 on March 16, 2024 at 8:37 am

Outstanding video. Thank you for showing a more realistic span of 14 days to get "transplant-able" roots. I get frustrated when people claim "Roots in 4 days!" 🙂 also thx for the CloneX note in the caption.

  22. @MikeP350 on March 16, 2024 at 8:38 am

What are the PPM’s of your tap water. Tap is very clean where I live, under 70 ppm out of the tap, I use it for my aerocloner all the time, chlorine and all, never given me any problems

  23. @Xtremist420 on March 16, 2024 at 8:39 am

Damn I read some where on the internet you want to use tap water for the minimal nutrient benefits.  Well being the internet and all, I figured it had to be true.  RO FTW.  Have never had problems with tap, but next time I’m using my RO

  24. @Albone3000 on March 16, 2024 at 8:39 am

too bad rain water wasn’t included

  25. @adyp81 on March 16, 2024 at 8:39 am

    Ro all the way

  26. @kikicova3364 on March 16, 2024 at 8:40 am

Your cutting way to much could keep almost all of it just need about 1 or 2 nodes in

  27. @kikicova3364 on March 16, 2024 at 8:41 am

    Wishbone method works

  28. @08AngelNia on March 16, 2024 at 8:42 am

love the side by side. you #fregrowli Just gave one of the best real good views of why we use RO when we have it and if we don’t have RO it still works but there is a difference. Keep it green my friend.

  29. @420DeadHeadMan420 on March 16, 2024 at 8:42 am

    Sick video Fregrowli. 💪👍✌&💚

  30. @Frandolph on March 16, 2024 at 8:42 am

Hey, can you expand on the "Green nozzles" What brand / size is this, or is it an industry standard thing?? Peace.

  31. @GDanielCho on March 16, 2024 at 8:43 am

Need same strains man, ive seen cuts root in three days and other strains that took about 3-4weeks. Strain plays a massive part imo great vid btw tho. Ever tried to leave a couple of nodes on tho? Its like gaining an extra week of veg haha

  32. @MrYaboip on March 16, 2024 at 8:44 am

    Nice Video.. #NoSpill

  33. @emerictassel9064 on March 16, 2024 at 8:44 am

*Best RO system I’ve ever used.>>>**ur2.pl/1115** Easy to install since I already had a hole on the counter for the dispenser.*

  34. @mannymoreno3328 on March 16, 2024 at 8:46 am

Can you do tap water with clonex vs just tap water also can you do the same test with just r/o water thanks !

  35. @theBillyBobb on March 16, 2024 at 8:47 am

It would be sweet to do this side by side with the same cuts tho, the vigor could be genetic in the RO tank. Even if the two different trays had 1 row each that were the same as a control. Cool to see though!

Is your water pump on a timer or 24/7?

Side note, I built a cloner with the diagonal yellow box lid like the one RO was in, but only because I couldn’t find the square lids. I’ve always seen ppl have one or the other, you have both!! How?!? Haha the square one has sooooo many extra sites!

    Thanks for the vid, cheers

  36. @beefsoda1 on March 16, 2024 at 8:48 am

    Distilled water?

  37. @kingsamoanOG on March 16, 2024 at 8:48 am

I wonder how my Well Water out here would compare against some R/O

  38. @mikehunt4797 on March 16, 2024 at 8:49 am

RO is consistent Tap water isn’t. RO gives a grower total control while tap water is always a gamble it can change at any time and some places tap water is pure shit with PPM’s in the 800’s.

  39. @TheHerbinfarmer on March 16, 2024 at 8:51 am

Great idea on the collars. Looks like RO wins that round. Great vid much respect brotha keep it goin.

  40. @nugzfordayz4204 on March 16, 2024 at 8:53 am

Great idea guys,I always wonder this myself

  41. @Sinawi616 on March 16, 2024 at 8:54 am

Yo fregrowli, i always get good results in my ezcloner but my roots are long and spaghetti looking. How do i get them to fishbone like that??

  42. @drblaze3850 on March 16, 2024 at 8:55 am

Thanks for this, I look forward to seeing more in the future (perhaps RO in both, but 1 with some nutrients) At first I thought the different lighting had something to do with the differences between the 2 cloners, but if that were the case, the clones toward the center of the tent, where there was overlap from the different lighting, would be a lot different than the clones at the edge of the tent. And that did not seem to be the case.

  43. @elliottdebell7783 on March 16, 2024 at 8:55 am

Nice dude finally a bit of side by side so I can finally make my mind up instead of anecdotal stories! Thanks dude

  44. @dimwit7474 on March 16, 2024 at 8:57 am

Important experiment for some of us👊. I’m in Day 13 of cloning some Jawa Pies in 1.5 inch "wrapped" rockwool cubes … with softened well/de-chlorinated TAP water (320 ppm raised to ~380ppm after pHing down to ~5.7 … seems that pH Down adds some ppm). So far, ZERO root-tips showing through the bottom. I should add that my last cloning run was IDENTICAL except that I used pHed R.O. and ALL were transplanted by the end of Day 13 … soooo … 🤓

  45. @Frandolph on March 16, 2024 at 8:57 am

I’ve been looking over RO systems for a few hours. Many of the $100-$150 units need new filters every 600 gallons. Hahn has one that says it goes 600,000 gallons for $590 at Costco, but i don’t think it’s true RO. Does anyone have better info? Changing filters every month or three would blow.

  46. @latteartcity on March 16, 2024 at 8:57 am

R/O looked like it crushed it👍🏼

  47. @joulesburn7527 on March 16, 2024 at 8:58 am

cool experiment, try the same strain and same lighting method next time and repeat it a few times for most accurate and reliable results. Did you measure ppms in your de-chlorinated water? I would love to see if a small variation in ppms would also attribute to faster/slower root development. Thanks for the vids, keep em coming.

  48. @cloud00nine on March 16, 2024 at 8:58 am

    very interesting
    what could be the cause?
